I just hope they don't ruin the darkness of the series or else I might flip my table for liking Kyoukai no Kanata.

In any event, I'm inclined to agree with Reincarnated.

IIRC, KnK is one of the light novel series which was given an Honorable Mention in KyoAni's Amateur Light Novel Awards or something.

If one volume is insufficient to tell how well received the LN is, then the director must have seen its potential when he decided to make an anime adaptation.
I'd like to judge the anime on its own merit, and not how closely it follows the source material. Sometimes people just give too much credit to the source material. Bastard! and Tenjo Tenge are two examples of manga that had promising starts, but the writers lost their way somewhere and just wrote whatever they fancy. I get annoyed at anime that hide behind "We are just following the source material" and make non-endings. Examples would be Skip Beat, Deadman Wonderland and Claymore. There's neither satisfaction nor resolution at the end, only bottled frustration. Hence, I hope the people making Kyoukai no Kanata is able to give the anime a proper middle and end. It does have quite an interesting start. If there is no official end, then make one. Don't give me that "We dunno how we should end this and we are afraid of offending LN/novel readers, so we'll just say lalala and end it" |

In any event, this topic has been previously discussed in great detail in the Kyoto Animation Studio Discussion Thread, so I recommend checking that out for more information.

Right now I'm just watching this for Chihara Minori's excelent performance as Mitsuki. Everytime she comes on screen to say something I completely melt away
As for the action scenes they still lack punch but I felt that this third episode was at least slightly better. The direction needs a lot of improvement though as has been so thoroughly pointed out on these last few pages (seriously guys, you write too fast ). In particular the scene where our MC goes home to cook diner only to almost immediately show up next to Mirai screams shady writing all over the place and should have been a red flag on the cutting room (unless KyoAni is rushing episodes out at broadcast time which I seriously doubt). Also, I have to say that the character designs are giving me quite a bit of cognitive disonance when watching the show. I tend to enjoy KyoAni designs even when most people seem to decry them as moeblobs but here they only serve to make the episodes look "wrong" to me. It's no Sora no Woto though.

Just finished watching episode 4. First half was kinda trippy with the labyrinth thing but overall the whole sequence still lacked tension. Second half was kinda surprising. Akihito looks like he's stronger than the hollow shadow.
Overall some pretty interesting reveals but IMHO the execution was lacking this episode.

Interesting episode.
Seems this one put Kuriyama into a tight spot. The past came to haunt her in a most unusual way. But seriously, the enemy this time was really difficult and challenging. It was interesting to see Akihito's "other" side as well. Great episode!

...Thief. That was Mirai's kill fair and square! You give that back!
Now, if Sakura's intro from last episode had been part of this episode and had included all the rest of this stuff from this episode, it would have been fine. We still need more info on her, but this is fine for an introductory episode. But there's no further need to belabor that point. ANYway. Now these two both know they have issues that completely set them apart from people around them. Maybe they can get along better. A rain of blood enough to kill the trees in a wide area? How is Mirai still alive? How much blood does this girl have? Her body must produce the stuff a thousand times faster than normal, or something. I'm going to assume it wasn't just the cooldown hug thing that got Akihito's youmu side to chill, but also contact with Mirai's blood. It would feel just a little too cliche otherwise. Whoa, Ai's a Nekomata? Didn't see that coming.

Wow 10/10 episode for sure. Epic episode!
The fight against the hollow shadow (WTF why u steal Mirai's epic high price item?! D:<) was awesome then we got to see Akihito's true powers after he goes berserk. Total Red Alert level power he's got o___o;; I wonder who that old guy was at the end and what they mean by they can stall the society with it... Things are getting more interesting! |

nice episode for sure, though i wonder what plans do they hold for MC. Whatever it is, it seems even more important then hollow shadow stone which should be worth really a lot since even 5 a lvl hunters couldnt last a minute.(unless rank s shows up later). And is that old geezer the mastermind??
