Story that deals with a boy-girl friendship
I'm looking for some good shows with a strong focus on building a friendship between the major male and female characters. Something where there's a whole lot more going on than just physical attraction or romantic interest, but rather a real bond developing over time. The relationship doesn't necessarily have to develop into anything romantic, and if it does it should take its time with it. While I love friendships that slowly reach into romantic feelings, familial feeling is fine. But the concept of romance should not be completely impossible. It just doesn't actually happen immediately if at all, and a large portion of the conflict and interaction is more on a platonic or semi-familial level, dealing with ups and downs in their relationship as dear friends.
Some series that come to mind include: March Comes in Like a Lion: Rei and Hinata can be seen to gradually develop an incredibly powerful bond over the space of the series. For a significant time this development is platonic, even familial, with him acting more like a big brother and watching out for her. While his feelings do slowly turn romantic, it's a gradual process and it remains to be seen when/if Hinata will really notice him. Cardcaptor Sakura: Sakura and Syaoran spend a greater portion of the series developing their friendship. Wouldn't mind still a little more time in that state before romantic feelings bloom, but it's still great and shows both a slow transition from friendship to romantic feelings as well as a degree of awkwardness in terms of actually dealing with those feelings toward a friend. One Week Friends is a little faster to move in a romantic direction and even begins because the hero has the hots for the heroine, but the long effort to develop and maintain a friendship is still worth noting. |
