The over-the-top guitar play was IN the manga ffs. It have nothing to do with KyoAni milking out the refs. What KyoAni did was to pad it out a bit. |

"That face" is a reference all japanese viewer will instantly understand. It's the face of Peko-chan from candy maker Fujiya.

After watching this episode, I'm adding Sawako to my list of Female Anime Teachers that I have a stronger love for. In other words, yes, I highly approve of her. Some fun moments from the girls including my favorite Ritsu.
However I have to say that thanks to this episode I've already been convinced as to which one should be my second favorite. And that girl is of course Tsumugi. Her personality, her way of viewing things, her charm, etc. They've won me over. This is not to say that Mio and Yui are bad as I like both of them, but Tsumugi and Ritsu are still ahead of them for me. It's as simple as that. In any case, I definitely enjoyed the episode and as usual I'm looking forward to the next episode. As well as re-wathcing this one later.

Peko-chan has been around Japan for like, over half a century. It's frequently used in cultural reference humor, since everyone can recognize it. Another reference you will see often in anime and anything that takes place in Japan, is Keroyon, the frog figure standing outside of drugstores in Japan.
