Personally, I'm liking the slower pace and how the show is focusing on the main trios relationships. But it looks like next week we may be getting more of the over arching plot.

I really wish we could spend less time on the insipid romance and more on the over arching plot. It's just that the main boy and girl are so boring and the rest of the episode was filler. The end was the best part.

Randomly watched the first episode. The explosion at the end was so unexpected that I started in my seat.

For my thoughts on the episode though, there were few things I liked about it, the main thing being the soundtrack. Sadly, the fantastic music wasn't enough to carry the episode, since the scenes just weren't on par with it. The intense bgm where Koharu meets with Kakeru and we see the burning trees and Kakeru's power for the first time was great, but then we have the ending scene, where the soft music and vocals clashed with the characters' conversation and what was going on. The tone of the scene and the tone of the music were completely different. It's as if the director was given this fantastic piece and then decided to randomly insert it in.

Also, the decision to make yet another otome adaptation where the main lead is a girl with a sickly "sweet" voice and demeanor and is constantly put in forced situations is especially irritating. Almost falling into a shallow pool of water and falling out of the tree in the same episode? Really? And her inability to speak except to say "uh" and "ah" was especially irritating, so thank goodness she actually managed to talk later on. Since I hate it when voice actors try to force their voices into an unnatural range for themselves, especially because it gives me the same feeling as chalk on nails, the shift from Koharu's uncertain, sickly sweet, weak voice to something more solid has my gratitude. Otherwise, this would have been a 100% drop like Atelier Escha & Logy.

That said, I'm still mildly interested in the setting, which was what caused the series to catch my eye in the first place, but after the first episode, I'm expecting a mediocre execution. It's a bit disappointing. A couple months ago I was looking forward to Norn9 and Prince of Stride as being my shoujo-oriented pick-ups of the season, especially since I heard that the lead for Norn9 was male and Stride would be adapted by Madhouse. It seemed like this season might potentially pave a new road for otome adaptations, but after an episode of this, and seven of Stride, both have been disappointments so far. I can't rate Norn9 from one episode, but if things continue on like this, neither are more than a 4/10 for me.

Yeah, I'll be honest, I skip each time the two MC are on screen. But I'm curious about the plot and curious to see Mikoto meet that new guy, even if at this point I'm not really expecting much about that.
The town seems to be inspired to Istanbul.

Episode 8:

The aerial fighting and action is surprisingly good imo, I hope they do more of those scenes in the future for this war considering what we found out in the latest episode.

Meanwhile, Mikoto survived although that isn't very surprising. Koharu also unleashes some of her powers. The reveal about the reset was probably the bigger twist as well engineered by Mankind. I think in essence, this week's episode progressed quite a bit. Aion is also the most mysterious character in this series with her timeline explanation. The presents timeline is the 8075, 4th history. That's well...a lot of info to take in at once.

Well finally they explained the whole deal and I actually liked the whole episode since it wasn't focusing on the romance for once but on the plot.
And Mikoto finally met with the guy.

They have some chemistry, but there aren't many episodes left to develop a romance between them. Maybe Mikoto will end up with Sakuya at the end. Not my favorite pairing but at least they did have some development.

Hmm.. a lot happened since I last watched it.
Things got more intense.
Lots of action too!
Much much better than the first 5 episodes.
So it's all in a distant future..
Trying to save the world repeatedly.. with Resets.

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything from it either, the episode where they dreamed about their special ones I guess was meant to give it away. It's just I don't see chemistry between Mikoto and Sakuya.
Well unless they won't go with the yandere route.

Hmm, I really like the new turns here and the whole sci-fi angle. They kept trying to reset the world and have done so 4 times, only for it to keep turning out the same, simple because of human nature.

I like that the guy's dad is actually one of the bad guys and that we're finally getting the whole story. It's actually all the way in the year 8000 and all these kids are from bygone eras.

More revelations this episode although I have to say, it was a pretty sight to see with Mikoto on that starship. Speaking of which, we find out more about her past too. The traveler still remains one of the mysterious characters though imo especially with his connection and motivation to influence the world.

Just wanted to point out that this week's episode is a recap so save some time or unless you want to revisit the show to get the most from it with the story building. I believe the episode is 9.5 or something like that.

Episode 10:

Shirou's reasoning behind his actions was just so stupid to me. How does it take you that long to realize and accept something so basic? Sure, you could say he was blinded by sorrow and time or whatever. But... I dunno. I kind of cringed every time he had something to say.

Episode 10 is probably the best Norn9 episode of them all, at least so far.

Norn9 has felt kinda meandering to me for awhile now, but Episode 10 felt like a good solid penultimate anime episode to me. Good drama, good intensity, good character confrontations, good flashy action, everything building to a head in a largely sensible way.

Shirou's reasoning is extreme, but "I'm willing to have the whole world burn for the sake of the person I love most" is honestly not that strange for an anime show. Between the two of them, I think that Kakeru and Koharu responded well to Shirou's reasoning. Shirou's transhumanism also probably warps his thinking some, as even he himself asks questions like "Do you have any idea what it's like to live thousands of years?".

I know some here don't like Koharu or Kakeru/Koharu, and I can understand why, but I personally like both Koharu and Kakeru/Koharu. She's very sweet, and so is their romance, and I have to admit this sort of romantic sweetness does appeal to me, usually. That being said, Kakeru/Koharu is at its best when he's in the driver's seat and not holding back - She's a little more passive and purely reactive than what would be ideal.

Honestly, I find it strange to think of this as an Otome game adaptation, even though it is one. Of the three major female characters, Mikoto is the only one that shows much independent agency. And even she gets sidelined a fair bit in this penultimate episode. Indeed, the male characters, especially Kakeru, definitively take charge in Episode 10. It honestly makes me think of a male-dominated shounen show like Bleach or Owari no Seraph! The major female characters do seem a little weak for a property aimed at a female audience.

On the whole, Norn9 has been a pretty good watch with some likeable characters, intriguing sci-fi elements, good action scenes, very good audiovisuals, and some neat twists and turns. It's biggest weaknesses are that it faffs around a lot in its middle episodes, could use stronger characterization for its major female characters, and could use more diversity among its male cast (though maybe this is to be expected of an otome game adaptation).

I also like Koharu's and Kakeru's dynamics. They aren't my favorite pairing from the game, and not even my favorite Koharu pairing, that would be Koharu and Masamune, but I did more or less enjoy their route, and them in the anime.

Although, I disagree that Mikoto is the only one who shows independent agency. I would say Koharu does as well, but just in a different way than Mikoto. Mikoto is the leader type, and unlike Koharu hasn't essentially been living under a rock for most of her life. So she's more likely to take charge in intense situations and speak her mind about certain things dealing with their ship and The World, then Koharu would. But Koharu will take the initiative where she can, and where she feels comfortable doing so. Like in the case of Kakeru she took the initiative in their relationship and didn't just wait around for him to get it together. I know that might seem like a minor thing, but god knows I've played enough otome games where the female MC can't even do that. So her not pussy footing around in that matter is certainly a breath of fresh air. There are other things but they are more related to the game.

There was also something they did in the anime that I liked better then what happened in the game.

Spoiler for for game comparison:

Sadly, my favorite female MC, Nanami, kind of got sidelined (understandably so) so we don't really get to see a lot of her personality and development there of.

Episode 11:

Hmm so we got aother world reset but it looks like Koharu isn't satisfied without Kakeru being there...

After all this buildup, execution, etc, it feels like we're back to square one again. Although it's kinda nice to learn more about Aion's purpose. I wonder how they will resolve this problem again with the world not being stable.

I'm confused. Did Aion just show all of them a preview of what a reset world was like? Or did only Koharu see it? I'm curious as to what the reasoning will be if they do/did eventually go through with The Reset, because it genuinely seems like most of them don't even want to.

I had this Evangelion reminiscence and then we had even the beach.
So basically while everyone else accepted it, Kakeru didn't want the Reset to happen since Koharu didn't remember her? Ok.

At least Mikoto did the right choice

Well, I was expecting this to be the last episode, so let's see how they will go on with the world instability, even if I guess that it will be something related to responsibility and whatnot.

There is no point in resetting the world, because everything will just go to shit all over again. To accomplish a real change, they have to give the world (the people, to be more precise) a chance to learn from their mistakes. It's a slow and painful process, just like our very own history, but there's no other way.

Anyway, I hope Koharu can stop the reset. Her motivation is pretty selfish but what she's doing is ultimately the right thing.
