Given that the point of departure is in the 70s, that's putting it lightly.

Given that much of the middle east, asia and europe are pretty much depopulated, extremist Wahabbism never really got a chance to spread, so radical Islamic terrorism isn't an issue here.

The BETA ate everything; Jerusalem, Mecca, Medina, and a whole lot of other holy places were overran by the BETA, thus a lot of the rationale for such extremism was literally paved over by the alien hordes. On the other hand, people are now seeing the BETA as messengers of God and semi-worshiping them, as seen with members of Allegiance.

MuvLuv was inspired by Gunparade march and Blue Gender, while Shingeki no Kyojin is Blue Gender + Muv Luv despair and gore.
