It is a bit odd that the slave trader seems to be portrayed as a good guy. He even gave Chise her share of the money from her own sale, though it's suspicious he waited this long to do so.

Okay, my recap and review are here. This episode covers chapters 33-34 and part of 35 in the manga. There's a lot of information that gets left out due to the time crunch, and while none of it is outright spoiling the story ahead I'm putting it in spoilers because I should have done that before. Sorry.

As for the slave trader... you do remember it opened with a black market bidding, right? Anyone who goes there knows exactly what's going on and Chise willingly put herself up for sale. He has every reason to treat her fairly because she was both a product and exhibitor, and you treat your exhibitor well since they come back for more business. Heck, giving her the commission could be just good business, but the fact that he knows she's going to sink it back into the auction to save the dragon is just pure profit. Though the manga made it clear he was holding on to it just in case he ran into her again, since once the papers are signed and the checks go through, it's done.

I'm not defending it. But I'm stating that this dark crap has always been a part of the series since then, as Elias himself points out that others only do things when its a profit to them like with Stella, and Chise doesn't have a personal beef with him, so its not seen as a negative thing to her, who we are following. It's part of the setting.

Spoiler:

They sure left out a lot of stuff this time. I wish they weren't rushing. As usual, thanks for the comparisons.

It can't be helped. Most of that stuff was world-building and even the manga is only slightly ahead of this point, which is probably why SeaDoor was upset. The manga hasn't ended yet (I think we got five chapters or more after the last one dropped a few days ago), so they have to give it an original ending in the next five episodes. On the plus side, because they adapted it pretty well so far, more people will be drawn to the manga and learn from that. I'm grateful for it because it reminded me how amazing the series is.

I'm starting to get annoyed by the people that don't mind their own business, it was elias who went his way to find chise, to buy her and "save" her, those who wants to go and help her with to no depend of elias don't have any business with it and less if chise doesn't ask for help, I'm glad elias told him that chise was his and that's it.

One thing I especially like about this show is how they give Chise's various animal transformations facial features that make them look like her.

Wow, this was intense. A mad dragon is really to be feared.

I like the chereography of this episode tbh. The mixture of the urban city night and fantasy element made the episode feel alive. At least they managed to get the dragon under control.

It's going to be interesting to see how Chise adapt with this Dragon's Curse in the aftermath. Elias and Chise's relationship is still really heartwarming to watch imo.

That was a really good episode, is weird watching Elias acting like that but considering that now Chise's death is 100% sure and pretty close but I can see why.

Even with the Witch's help I don't think that she will get rid of this curse, especially when Joseph will be involved thanks to that last statement about his curse and Chise's curse.

Chise's reaction to her arm was the beest thing about this episode.

It also seems like Mariel picked up something about Stella as they walked past each other.

As if things weren't already bad enough for Chise, her lifespan just got reduced even more. It's the result of her own recklessness, but it really sucks because she only had good intentions in mind. She deserves happiness, not this.

First mages, then sorcerers, and now witches. Joining that coven sounds like a very bad idea.

As crazy as this sounds, Joseph might be a better option. Given what he said at the end and the fact we know he can "steal" limbs, perhaps he could get rid of Chise's curse by taking her dragon arm. The problem is what he'd do with Chise afterwards. He isn't exactly known for helping others.

Wow Oh, Chise, its impossible not to love you after that. And everything else. On another note, I love how the series manages to add fun stuff like that in right after such dire circumstances (poor Silky passing out from shock was another good moment).

Let's see...
put your hands on the back of the dragon and I'll catch you...

Exactly what part of that was a good plan?!?
Kind of makes the ariels' attempt to spirit her away in the first episode seem like not such a bad idea after all.

It looks like for Chise no good deeds goes unpunished. She really does deserve better.

The attempts at comedy this episode were sort of off putting. I get that they were trying to lighten the mood, but with the exception of the joke about Silky fainting, most of the jokes just took me out of it.

Yeah, when the witch said Elias was overprotective, I wanted to say that if anything, he's underprotective.

She asked Elias for help and it was a solid plan right up until the dragon got free to fly and then blasted him. Chise draining it into her body without an escape (Remember, Elias was behind her to take in the excess magic into his body from her, essentially having her act as a conduit while he stored it inside of him) ultimately screwed her, but she knew the risks. That being said, the jokes were off-putting indeed and I really do have hope for her.

Anyway, my review and recap is done. There's a lot that they didn't cover in regards to Mariel, so once more, my spoilers below are differences between the anime episode and chapters 35-37 of the manga. Read at your own risk.

Spoiler:

You can only do so much when Chise has a decreased self-preservation instinct. Unfortunately, this also causes me not to pity her too much when she gets into trouble.

There's 43 chapters of the manga. This just finished 37. They've been doing about 2-3 chapters in the last two episodes alone.

I do wish there was more of a follow up to that dragon but otherwise this had to be the strongest episode of the series thus far. The moments between Chise and Elias were just so powerful. I am kinda pissed off with Elias though. He kept reassuring others about how he had a plan to keep Chise alive and now this happens and it turns out he never had a plan in the first place. Just a whole load of optimism that things will work out somehow. He ought to consider a career in British politics.
