AnimeSuki 2008 Award Winners
Let's do this!
I know there was some considerable wait for you guys for this but keep in mind this simple event is actually extremely time consuming. In any case thanks for your patience and hope you enjoyed it! Just to get to the heart of the matter before I lose all of your attention to the winners I understand some of you are concerned about the way this work in terms of what anime ends up where. This year again I left it off entirely up to you guys and didn't take it upon myself to make changes to our nominees or winners. The only excluded are the ones that broke the rules and even there it was only a handful of users. I believe that most of our "members" here are actually quite capable of making good decision when it comes to this type of even, I recall someone saying it was foolish to leave it up to the general people in the prior threads. But I believe in you guys, I really do. However it seems the event itself has attracted some people from outside the community making a considerable impact on the number of new participants this year. I'm not saying this is good or bad, I simply mean that it gets harder to handle. The point is I have been trying to stay out of this situation for the simple reason that any actions that I would take would be considered bias and perhaps "unfair" to some of you. So I would like to announce that assuming this event will take place again, an official group will be created for this project that will dedicate itself into making this event better from now on. In that regard I don't want to go into too much details about the future changes for now before confirming the members of this panel and gathering their opinions first. But you can probably expect a better control on the nomination and on who gets to vote,. I don't think there is any reason to be alarmed, and in fact you should be glad that this event might take a more professional turn while leaving the final decision up to the forum members. Just so we are clear I have a few names in mind as to who should be on this team but no official list yet, this is the very first announcement made to this effect. But once news come rest assured you will be informed and kept up to date. Special Thanks again to Liingo for his help this year and Kimen for the banners. Also to many of you guys who helped out to correct a few mistakes. In any case, now for the important part, The results: [45] Ga-Rei: Zero [28] Kurenai [23] Kurozuka [12] Blassreiter [80] Spice and Wolf [35] Natsume Yuujinshou [10] Allison to Lillia [6] Ninjuu Mensou no Musume [47] Code Geass [45] Macross Frontier [35] Gundam 00 [23] Kaiba [60] Kara no Kyoukai [23] xXx Holic [22] Shigofumi [14] Muryou no Hako [37] Kannagi [33] Detroit Metal City [33] Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei [27] Hayate no Gotoku [44] Clannad [35] True Tears [19] ef A tale of Melodies [16] Itazura na Kiss [15] Nodame Cantabile [56] Aria [26] Natsume Yuujishou [14] Hidamari Sketch x365 [14] Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora [31] Strike Witches [17] Zero no Tsukaima [16] Kanokon [15] To Love Ru [36] Bamboo Blade [32] Kaiji [22] Shion no Ou [9] Eyeshield 21 [47] Code Geass R2 [27] Spice and Wolf [21] Kaiba [21] Kurenai [17] Clannad [57] Kara no Kyoukai [41] Macross Frontier [23] ef A tale of Melodies [19] Code Geass [14] Kaiba [68] Macross Frontier [23] Kara no Kyoukai [21] Code Geass R2 [20] Aria [11] Gundam 00 [67] Kara no Kyoukai [28] Evangelion [19] Sword of the Stranger [44] Lucky Star [32] Detroit Metal City [28] Tsubasa Tokyo Revelation [18] Mnemosyne [70] Lelouch [29] Okazaki Tomoya [19] Krauser II [18] Lockon Stratos [11] Kurenai Shinkurou [55] Horo [35] Sheryl Nome [34] C.C. I'm glad that 3 of my favorite animes got first place in their respecitve catagory, Spice and Wolf, Clannad, and Aria. Code Geass, though not my favorite, not sure if it should've reached the top spot as a mecha anime, but Leluoche definately earned his, I think.
Lol at spinzaku being the last place. Overall, rather very agreeable list. Great work in creating the list!

Wow, what a close race in the mecha category.
Strike Witches, Spice and Wolf, Lelouch, and R2 for storyline were essentially no brainers, but I really expected something better out of True Tears for romance. Maybe it's After Story's effect that helped Clannad win. Kannagi took Comedy! |

Congrats to Kyomi and all the people who participated in the awards organization for another successful event.
Other than that it feels a bummer that CLANNAD didn't win in every award it participated in, but whatever.

I can accept everything except for Code Geass R2 winning the Mecha/Sci-Fi and Storyline. Macross F winning soundtrack was no brainer. And YES ARIA for winning Slice of Life category.
Congratulations (and not congratulations to Suzaku) to winners/winning series. (which means YES!!!!!! Horo).

Otherwise, I'm fairly satisfied with how it all turned out. Spice and Wolf and Kara no Kyoukai sweeping the scene. Aria winning best SOL. Kannagi getting best comedy. It would seem I'm in good company! Oh, and sort of weak fanservice year, I didn't really enjoy any of the top four.

Muh... No complaints. Good results...
It's a shame Ranka-tan and Suzaku are so hated... Fuh, maa~ Seeing the number who voted for what's-her-name... Sheryl, I can see the main picture for why people voted for Ranka. Yare yare-nyan... ( #`Д´) Wakame lost... (´・ω・`) Nn? Denpa Noe was even on the list...? Didn't notice. ( ´,_ゝ`)プッ

Horo and Ranka double for the last two catergories was selected a lot, not that it matters, everyone who selected Ranka was a sheryl shipper and everyone who selected Suzaku wants to have Lelouche's babies.
Storyline is the clear standout lol result here. |

When it comes to Storyline, I think it's clear that the most popular anime won...
(How's that for a backhanded compliment!) Quote:
As far as fanservice is concerned, there were actually a few much more enjoyable fanservice titles that didn't even get nominated (They Are My Noble Masters, Rosario + Vampire). My theory is that a lot of people didn't really care about the category or take it really seriously during the nomination round (myself included, in all honesty), which is why we ended up with really crappy nominees. I think these two titles winning multiple awards doesn't tell the full story. KnK won a technical award and had almost no competition in the two other categories, while Code Geass was by far the year's most popular anime, so it was always going to do well. That's not to take anything away from either of those two series: winning multiple awards is always impressive. But I'm far more impressed with Spice and Wolf's two wins: it had tougher competition and a much smaller popularity base.

I loled at Lucky*Star winning best OAV when, imo, Detroit Metal City was clearly ahead of it. On best storyline, if it was in regard of its entertainment values, I'd not deny it. But in term of construction of the plot, twists, etc, it'd be like awarding a Michael Bay blockbuster over let's say, something like Memento.
Glad for Aria and Kara no Kyokai tho. |

The results were more or less what I expected - although I did not expect Geass to beat Macross by two measly votes. It was closer than I imagined.

The shipping wars for Macross Frontier is really bad though, I couldn't bear to look in the majority of the subforum, its totally stupid.
And from that I looked back at MF and the entire Macross series itself and concluded that this series really had the worst character development and interactions of all Macross. Though the mecha porn they treated us mecha fans and the great music were enough to save it. The Macross tri-essentials for Macross Frontier: Love Triangle = fail Music = win Mecha = win A whole bunch of us who voted for Geass got negative repped, it reminds me of those Ranka fans who got negative repped or Ranka fans who neg repped in counterattack. The anime fandom really is failing these recent years.
