Yes, it was one of the more solid episodes. However, that 5 minutes or however long it takes for Luffy to recover is just ridiculously long. This is entering DBZ territory now. It's like the fight with Friezer, where 5 minutes actually last over 2 hours long and 10 episodes.

Also, the Admiral really should have been doing something more useful than pushing the birdcage... like... you know... stopping Donflamingo. But whatever at this point. I mean, it's pretty ridiculous enough that all these strong haki users can't even push back the birdcage. Also, it was foolish enough that no one even thought about going underground where the sea port is and go out that way.

Yet another callback to Alabasta, this whole birdcage thing reminds me when they were looking for the bomb in the square. It'll go off in 2 minutes! Then they spent like 2 episodes trying to find it while a bunch of crap was going on. That was a long 2 minutes.

I'm impressed that with all the pushing and stuff nobody got themselves sandwiched between the cage and the wall of a building. I guess there must be some long, empty roads in Dressrosa.

Large scale threats clearly aren't Oda's strong points. Creating a sense of urgency also doesn't seem to be his forte.

If you're going to stretch out five minutes across several episodes, at least use more slow motion or something (see HxH). Either that, or just have a bigger time limit. I don't know about anyone else, but "Everybody is going to die in 1 hour" still feels rather urgent to me.

Geez.. when will the cage slice them up?
This is becoming too stretched.
They might be pushing but it's not working..
Luffy finally woke up!!
And just in time to save Viola.

Sorry to say this but I was expecting much more from this episode. I don't care how much time they waste but atleast when the actual fight starts they should animate it properly as it is in the manga and not add some pushing in between the hits. This is really stupid, if Doflamingo was actually able to push Luffy's biggest attack back then there is no way Luffy will hit him with such power at the end. It's simple physics damn it, in this case he should've lost all the momentum.

I was expecting for finished to be awesome, I dont think its as bad as the late ones.
BGM effects more than animation itself here for me, it was nice to seeJet Gatling music back in a huge finisher. Thou they lingered the stretching too far off enough for awesome music to disappear before attacks landing which was kinda of a buzz kill.

Also that stupid soap operaish scenes of entire crew yelling "Luffy" one by one...Who comes up with those ideas?I mean in manga it looks allright but in anime it looks hilarious and totally skippable.

Heroic triumph moment I guess. If that was the case, Lucci would have obliterated Luffy back there by avoiding entire Jet Gatling with an enchanted Soru/Geppou to fly away instead of Tekkai, wasting Luffy's final energy left within. Sometimes overpowered villains must go full clueless in order to get defeated for story's sake.

Finally! This horrendous arc of a nightmare might be over. I'm guessing if they ever cut all the padding filler they have done the last half decade, One Piece will be awesome. However, as it is right now, that was a nightmare.

Holy cow! What should have been seconds (since there is barely any time left on the cage) was stretched out to 15 minutes of.. something. Also, I wonder how many people Luffy killed when he busted up the ground the way he did? And what should have been an epic punch ended up being... well... something.

Doflamingo was a ridiculous villain in all respects since his powers are supposed to have overpowered all those Haki users there, including the Navy Admiral, just with his cage. As if a meteor could not even break the cage, right? Luffy was able to break the strings, but Zoro could not cut through the cage?

At the current rate One Piece is going, I fear for Luffy's VA's life. She is not getting any younger. There is still Blackbeard, plus the other 3 Yonkai's including Shanks. Each one will require extremely long arcs. Then there is the revolutionary army and the marines to delve into. Finally, the crew has to obtain One Piece (and All-Blue). This sideshow of an arc lasted 2+ years (3+ years if you include Punk Hazard) and 105+ episodes, since Doflamingo is not even one of any of the major players I listed. This is by far the longest arc in One Piece.

Well, I'm not sure what to expect next. I'm sure they'll drag out the follow-up episodes, too. They really should do what Fairy Tail and Gintama does, and take a break. Of course, One Piece is still making money for them, so they are not likely to do that.

Just so the anime viewers know, in the manga there was no back-and-forth struggle between the king kong gun and god's thread. Luffy's power simply broke through everything and nailed Doffy quickly. The birdman can't compete with Gear 4.

Luffy killing people? In One Piece? Are we looking at the same content ? In all seriousness, the townsfolk were far away enough not to be caught up in the collateral damage. Luffy wouldn't have executed the move if innocent bystanders were in the vicinity.

I don't think the remainder of One Piece will be as long as you're projecting. When this arc was almost wrapped up in the manga, in an interview, one of Oda's editors (who knows the ending, by the way) said that Oda considered the time-skip the halfway point. Furthermore, he even went on to say that One Piece is approximately 70% done. Make of that what you will.

They're never going to stop the padding. You know how close the anime is to the manga? If the episodes start animating two or three chapters at a time, the anime will soon overtake the manga and then they're stuck; where is the material for the story going to come from? One Piece will then end up like the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime, where the show went and came up with an original story compared to the source material. Brotherhood came back and fixed it by telling the manga in all its glory and even that was cutting it close; the final manga chapter came out a few weeks before the final episode aired. Or One Piece may end up stopping completely like Bleach did. (Though most likely what will end up happening is that the Bleach manga will first conclude before they the anime picks it up again.) Or they can milk the series for all its worth like Naruto. (The manga concluded a while ago but rather than show the rest of the chapters, we're once again stuck in Filler Hell.)

The "beam struggle" between Luffy's fist and Doflamingo's strings was meant to pad out the episode. It's cool and dramatic though I suspected that others were going to complain that the anime didn't follow the manga to the exact detail. (Same thing happened during Luffy's fight with Hody Jones and Caesar Clown)

As for the VA dying, well yeah, that fear is the same for all voice actors. Doesn't matter how old they are, anyone of any age can die from causes other than old age (accident, suicide, etc.) Daisuke Gori (original voice actor of Mr. Satan from Dragonball Z and intended voice actor for Jimbei) took his own life when he couldn't read the scripts anymore due his diabetes. Miyu Matsuki (Leilah from Tales of Zestiria, Magical Sapphire from Fate/Kaleid and Hisui from Tsukihime) died from Lymphoma and she was only 38 years old. If Luffy's VA, Mayumi Tanaka, were to kick the bucket, that would suck immensely because her voice is the defining voice for Luffy.

^You totally missed the point he made. What he was trying to say is that One Piece should stop for some time (like Gintama and Fairy Tail did) and resume when there is enough material for continuation so they can fix this terrible pacing.

I'd rather they just Reboot the whole damn series. Getting a whole new company to animate it as well. Toei has abused their right to many times imo.

Bite your tongue. You're the one abusing your rights as a fan by trash talking to those hard working animators. This is exactly what Scott Cawthon was scolding us for.

No, because then they will be like Naruto and never continue!

If there's one thing that all creators hate it's ingrates. You give them an inch and they can become your worst nightmare. Here's something to get started on:

I don't really mind a bit of a 'beam struggle.' In the end it's not like Luffy is really going to use the King Kong Gun to beat whoever he's up against next. Be it Kaido, Big Mom, or whoever. So not like we're going to have an issue of "how could this move struggle to beat the next villain when it struggled to beat someone that Doflamingo wouldn't fight." Might as well play up the fight for the sake of the struggle. I think it'd lack something in the moment anyways if it was such a quick boom and done. Piss off Luffy that much, might as well let that last shot last for a bit.

I agree though that it would be nice if they just took a break. Of course it's like Naruto and I never expect to see that happen. Practically a license to print money. I just wish these shows would stop, break and come back when there's enough material. I get the lure of money, but it does make the show weaker with so much padding every episode.

The problem here is that the anime-only viewers get the wrong perception. In the anime, they made it seem like Doffy could give G4 Luffy a run for his money when that couldn't be further from the truth. There didn't need to be any more of a struggle since the whole arc in itself already has been one (and a very long one at that). As usual, Toei's padding creates problems concerning the strength of characters. An extreme example is when they made Luffy struggle against Hody Jones. Complete BS.
