Uhm, no, I don't think I've heard of hikari being used to express emotion, sorry. Maybe you can provide an example of it in a sentence?

Which again points back to "not wanting familial or relationship commitments" =/= "not having any sexual urges"

Too easy to stereotype no?
The survey isn't asking "Do you want to marry and have children?", the survey is asking whether they are interested in sex in general. And the answer is 1 out of 2 women and 1 out of 4 men in the 16-24 age group are uninterested in sex or even hate it. Anyone can see that's abnormal.

I'm skeptical about this.
How was the survey carried out? How many people were asked? How much randomized was it?
And, where is the source? The Guardian only has a link to JFPA website, not to the survey itself.

So I did some research and it turns out the survey was a sham: https://ampontan.wordpress.com/2012/02/03/suckers/

Bloody newspapers, even the reputable ones can't be trusted.

How about that sex-worker-turned-sex-educator? Was she a handpicked sensation too?

It was conducted by another conservative "organisation" that want to turn girls into "baby factories", but end up only feeding sensationalism abroad.

Ironically politicians trying to convince women to become baby factories probably has the opposite effect. Politician: "Women, give up your careers and just make babies!" Women: "No, fuck you".

"An army of feral cats rules a remote island in southern Japan, curling up in
abandoned houses or strutting about in a fishing village that is overrun with felines
outnumbering humans six to one.

Originally introduced to the mile-long island of Aoshima to deal with mice that
plagued fishermen's boats, the cats stayed on - and multiplied."

Japan really has a laissez-faire approach to dealing with multiplying animals. The idea is fun but in reality a lot of those animals are probably starving and infected with disease.

Eh, why did they decide to pick up this old news, and only one island?
Japan has several "cat islands"

Ogishima in the Setouchi Sea for example.
http://find-travel.jp/article/634

Or how about the Tashirojima in Miyagi
http://www.huffingtonpost.jp/2015/03...n_6845250.html

As you can see Aoshima isn't unique.

Freedom versus tradition: What it'll take to keep a 1,300-year-old inn going
Quote:
It's one of the oldest family businesses in the world, but when the family's only son died, it became the daughter's unspoken responsibility to succeed the business. The daughter is torn inside, as she struggles to reconcile her individual aspirations with her parents' hopes, and the enormous burden of keeping alive a 1,300-year-old legacy.

Apologies if this isn't the best place to mention it, but for anyone in or near Canada's largest city (or with cause to visit), Toronto's Japan Foundation office/gallery/library will be re-locating to a new building later this year.

Harajuku Style in Tokyo

Quote:
Rarely does a neighborhood influence a fashion movement as distinctly, yet diversely, as does the Harajuku district of Tokyo. Often all mixed together, the elements of Harajuku style include manga-inspired baby-doll dresses and pigtails, goth makeup and platform shoes, and kimonos.
The article includes a video with interviews of passers-by and Mademoiselle Julia, a designer and DJ.

What's the best time to confess in Japan? Valentine's Day? Or is there another holiday like "last day of spring" or "last day of school" that would prompt students to confess.

A subculture of entrepreneurship hatches in Japan:

"In the 1940s, start-ups like Sony and Honda helped Japan rise from the ashes of
war and catch up with the West within decades. Japan remains the world's third-
largest economy, behind the United States and China, and a powerhouse in sectors
such as auto making, electronics, robotics, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

But since the 1990s, Japan has been trapped in a cycle of economic stagnation and
deflation. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says a key missing ingredient has been a lack of
business start-ups, and he's made fostering them one of the pillars of his
"Abenomics" program."
