The PSP hits Japan!

The PSP has officially luanched in japan. Check out the article from Gamespot:

By the way, the Nintendo DS has horrible graphics compared to the PSP.

I've read somewhere that there were lines of 500 meters, with some people waiting more then 24 hours to get the PSP (To entertain themselfs, some people were playing on their DS's )

Man, I sure can't wait for this...to bad it'll take about 3 more months to be release here

I think I'll wait a year till they get all the bugs that will arise with the PSP fixed. In the meantime you guys have fun with your "disk read errors" .

Indeed. I was reading in another forum that RR ate up the PSP's battery life to 4 hours (on high settings). Ouch.

I have just read GameSpot's articles on the PSP and the DS launch.
I would go for a DS. Why?
DS is innovative. PSP is not.
The DS is cheaper.
The DS has better battery life.

Two things that might hurt the DS, though...
The PSP has a better design, says the popular opinion.
The DS has about half the resolution of the PSP.

But I don't care that much. I'll be looking at my game, and graphics don't make a game.

Well actually I want a PSP and a DS but...
If this is true for the PSP

Q: How long does the PSP's battery last?

A: The short answer is that it depends on what you're doing. The longer answer is that Sony has stated that the battery should last around six hours. With simpler-looking games, like Lumines or Mahjong Fight Club, that definitely seems to be the case. But with more graphically intensive games, like Ridge Racers, the battery doesn't last quite as long. Based on our estimates and a few battery-draining tests, Ridge Racers seems to last somewhere between 90 minutes and three hours. Playing with the wireless networking switch flipped on will also further reduce your battery life. The system has an auto-sleep function that stops the wireless drain, but that switch is there for a reason. Turn it off when you're not using it.

From gamespots.....
Then I have to rethink about this....

You would be surprise to see how the gamefaqs forums are in the psp board, ack! o.o

I think psp will do good, it got good graphics, like the DS. DS doesnt have HORRIBLE graphics, and the gba library with future releases of DS games isnt all that bad. I heard the PSP battery life is a problem but it varies with each game/movies/volume etc.. I want both handhelds =D

Remember why the Game Gear didn't do well despite its COLOR graphics? It was more expensive, and had poor battery life.

Yes, battery life varies, but if the limit is six hours...

There were 1200 people lining up on one of the stores, I read that in an article.

Sadly, DS will sell better. I said sadly because PSP looks way too good, but the same thing happened with Game Gear.

Well, regarding this topic, j-people always make this "camp" outside the stores, remember Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, etc.

Except you couldn't find one in Japan. Now, not really sure. Would it work with non-Japanese versions of the games also? Knowing Sony, they may have locked the system with region protection that will need a workaround.

Have stores outside of Japan now gotten demo models to let prospective buyers look at the system BTW? Both DS and PSP, I thought, had nice displays. PSP's is more realistic, but DS's does a very good job with showing off what it has as well.

Graphics don't make the game, but graphics are part of the game. Having worse graphics doesn't make a game better. I typically like more titles that release on sony consoles compared to what gets released on nintendo consoles. The new sequel of FFVII will be on PSP next year. Sony always has a lot of all-age bishoujo games on its consoles and I hope this holds true for the PSP as well. The battery life is a problem but I'd be able to plug mine in most of the time. What I'm curious about is the region lockout. If there is no lockout I'll get the US version for it will be cheaper. If there is a lockout, I'll get the Japanese version. Although, I'll probably wait until Sony release some special versions that won't come out in the US. I still wish I had a sakura PS2.

I think you know that that isn't what I meant.
In the end, it's the gameplay/fun factor that counts.

is just a spin off not really a sequel, like before crisis,
btw playing a RPG on a handheld 0.o might get eye cancer ^^

think that sony said the region lock applies only for the movies UMD's not for the games
so basically you won't be able to playback the jpn version of Advance Children on a us/eur psp,
but u should be able to play games form any region
