One of the main girl almost got killed. Since I only read the manga, this part took me by surprise!

Itami is now married to a young, beautiful, famous and powerful mage. He has 1 slave. There's a Demi-God at his side. He has "1" daughter older than him and his wife He keeps getting honors from everyone.

That's quite an accomplishment

It is clear she KNOWS they are not really married, or she would have told him after the third night. Lelei just manipulated the rules the same way she manipulates magic.
There's another possibility: Leilei has misinterpreted the law herself and thinks that they are married when according to their tribe's custom/law, they are not. Itami could just be too dense to realize how she's acting, or maybe the change in her behavior is too subtle to notice.

Besides, there has been some evidence that she understands at least a certain amount of those matters, so it seems kind of unlikely that a genius mage who studied under a lecherous old man that wouldn't stop making euphemisms about her sister would make such a stupid and obvious misinterpretation.
Remember, we're reading a translation of a Japanese work telling the story of a fantasy world. It's highly likely something got lost in the translation. Also, there are different kinds of intelligence. Just because she understands some things doesn't mean she's smart at everything.

One more thing everyone seem to miss: Elves, Orcs and other races are actually alien races. Each with it's own homeworld somewhere in the galaxy.

And most important thing: according to story Humans are the ones who have come when the last GATE was opened. Human are the race who came lastly to that world and by the time GATE opened again Humans are the most powerful race on that world. They thrived on planet with long lived opponents like Elves, brutally strong opponents like Orcs and monsters so frightening that even our modern weaponry can barely take them down.

GATE really teach you something about Mankind as a whole.

Uh no Orcs are still kill-able by our guns and bombs.

With the discussion about Lelei, the translation that I saw had Mimoza say, "If a man and a woman sleep in the same room for three nights, they're in a relationship." If this translation is correct, then it does not leave much room for interpretation. This translation specifically does not include making love as a requirement but just the act of sleeping in the same room. Also, this was stated by Mimoza, so Lelei's version is technically correct that they are married under this Ceremony of Three Nights.

My prediction, from the look of their abilities, they can hit with no more force than an RPG, and even that might be the result of Lelei's power up since she learned how physics really work. It is also implied in the manga that those magic barriers can be broken by sufficient force from a period weapon, let alone the firepower of the JSDF.

Even if they had the mages, on an open battlefield such as Alnus Hill, the higher rate of fire of machine guns and the heavier firepower of artillery would still hold the advantage. That said, it would still be quite possible to use that type of magic in a guerilla type war. That might cause the JSDF more trouble.

That, I think would hold true for the magic systems in a lot of fantasy anime- that they are based off "video game magic" which essentially involves throwing fireballs/lightning/etc at a much lower rate of fire than a machine gun, and magic barriers can be broken by physical damage. In a stand up fight against a tank division, the tanks would still win, but it could still be useful in an ambush.

I think he was referring to the Flame Dragon, and really, it would only really a threat to modern infantry and light vehicles, maybe a lone tank- it depends if the flames would be powerful enough to destroy and vital systems before the tank just drives out of the flames- while WWII- era tanks were vulnerable even to molotovs, modern MBTs have fire suppression systems and the interior is insulated from external heat... at least for a time. Against a tank division with artillery and air support, well... you saw what happened in episode 5.

Yes, she may have naively misunderstood the law, or deliberately misstated it to lay a claim to him, but until we see an actual breakdown of the law (maybe because one of the others protests), there is no way to know for sure. Not to mention, if it is the "letter" of the law, then she at the very least has grounds to hold him to it, even if the law isn't always enforced. Also, to a previous statement, it doesn't seem certain that this is a traditional law of Lelei's tribe. Judging by the immediate response, as well as the fact that the old teacher (who may or may not be from the same tribe) never said it's a rule of her tribe, we don't really know the scope of the law. It may be a mere tradition of her people, or it may be a common law observed traditionally if not officially throughout the empire.
While it is possible that it is a misinterpretation, I would not at all be surprised if the Empire did have a law such as this. Ancient and medieval societies were known to have unusual rules as to what constitutes a legal marriage.

I was talking about Empire humans, not our own.

To them Orcs are brutally strong beasts.

Keep in mind that in most cultures, sex is never explicitly mentioned. It is only implied. Also, there is very little laws about marriage in GATE, I would not be surprised if it can be nothing more than a simple register for tax purposes. Local cultures decide what is or isn't marriage, but it is pretty clear that the husband is suppose to be aware of it. One way or another Lelei was trying to keep her alleged marriage to Itami hidden from him, for as long as possible.

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Actually, now I remember why the Ceremony of Three Nights seems so familiar. It's essentially the same ceremony the Minbari uses in Babylon 5. With that one, the woman actually looks at the man while the man sleeps, to see his true self, and this is done for 3 separate nights. I'm guessing this must be based off of some culture's rule in the past somewhere on earth.

Although it is weird that Lelei kept this knowledge from Itami, I'm thinking she might have done that to keep her options open. She probably wanted to develop a deeper relationship with him, and he does truly care for her (she is the only human in his harem right now). She only felt the need to reveal it when someone else tried to encroach on her "territory". Also, it seemed calculated by Lelei, since the 2nd and 3rd time, she actually slept with contact with Itami.

I dont think the rate of fire is especially important its about the amount of damage a single spell can do which varies greatly per franchise. But yeah these Mages dont seem to be especially powerful at combat.

I think they're pretty powerful and versatile, but they're also very expensive (compared to, say, shoving an AK-47 into some kid's hands and telling him to go get himself killed). I'm guessing not everyone can be a mage, and even if you can, it takes years of training to be useful.

And even then, you're outranged by modern weaponry.

Well perhaps but again if you go guerrilla style getting close isn't nearly as much of a problem.

Well that is where all the tech vs magic breaks down how strong does the mage have to be to cancel out the advantage of the cheap effectiveness of modern weaponry.

Although if your in a franchise where the opposition can use time stop then GG Modern Weaponry.

No matter what, I think in every culture it is important that both sides of a marriage actually need to know they are married, for the marriage to count. You can't just marry someone without their knowledge, that's never going to hold up in any court, modern or ancient.

Indeed. Once the mages understand how modern technology works, then those helicopters and tanks can be stopped. Just magically transmute "coolant fluid" into "mud" and they stop moving.

It depends how easy it is to turn coolant fluid into mud. And from how far you can do it.

There was SO much in this episode! Recon Team 3 is in the capitol, and at we got to see Kuribayashi as she stood watch outside the Team's station. I wonder what was in the bag Kurokawa waved at the Major?

Tyuule is priming Zorzal at full speed for a huge fall. And she engineered what I believe is a Carte Blanche* although I have no idea who it will be aimed at: there are several targets. I just know she's cunning and vicious, so it could be any of them.

All the while Pina was confronting Zorzal I kept saying 'Don't say too much!' I think she'll be OK but man don't run your mouth around crazy egotistical maniacs girl, even if he is your brother.

Loved the mage duel. And "Mommy, where's our house?" and the basket of fruit with "Sorry!" written next to it.

I have the feeling that Rory may be having a little private chat with Itami after Leilei's marriage claim.

Did anyone else notice the head of the assassin's crossbow bolt was smoking? I guess that if you're going to assassinate a wizard you really do have to stack the deck!

*I'm thinking it reads something like "By my hand, and for the good of the State, the bearer has done what has been done. (signed) Zorzal" [Apologies to Alexander Dumas ]
