Tales of Arise [2020]

Tales of Arise announced for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It launches in 2020.

Trailer

Information:

Quote:
Tales of Arise is the latest chapter in the popular Tales Of Japanese role-playing-game franchise. With Yusuke Tomizawa (head of the God Eater franchise) at the helm of the Tales Of development team, the franchise and its latest chapter promise to deliver new storylines, gameplay dynamics, and worlds for players to explore.

Tales of Arise takes place in a solar system containing the two neighboring planets of Dahna and Rena. The inhabitants of Dahna have always paid reverence to their planetary neighbors on Rena – a planet they can clearly see in their sky – as a land of the righteous and divine. For the people of Dahna, legends and lore about Rena and its inhabitants have been handed down for countless generations, and through time, have become facts in their minds that have actually masked a cruel reality for the people of Dahna. For 300 years, the people of Rena have ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping its people of their dignity and freedom. Tales of Arise begins with two people, born on different worlds, each longing to change their fate and create a new future for themselves and perhaps their people. Featuring an original cast of characters, a dramatic storyline, dynamic combat, breath-taking environments, with some classic Tales Of elements included; Tales of Arise marks a new beginning for the famed JRPG franchise.

If nothing else it was a nice reveal trailer. I did enjoy Berseria so hoping the Tales series keeps a good run of games going with Arise. Not many thoughts on Arise itself since the trailer wasn't super story focused. But I'll keep an eye on it as information comes out.

I'm really happy to see the Tales franchise still alive and kicking with a brand new main game, although to be honest I'm not sure I would've recognized it as a Tales game before the title showed up .

Graphically it is definitely a major improvement from past games. It looks absolutely gorgeous (and I'm not just talking about the Main Heroine) .

Feels like the first time we've gotten a more traditional Hero/Heroine pairing in a main Tales game in a while. Would it to be too much to hope for some romance ?

So far it looks like more of a single-player hack-and-slash then the traditional Tales RPG, so I'm wondering if there will be a Party at all aside from the female lead being a companion .

^ I'm not sure what you mean by traditional but wasn't Jude and Milla just two games ago, three if we count the sequel as it's own separate thing.

It's just the first trailer. Namco isn't going to show their whole hand. Just going with the basics in hindsight was for the best in hindsight due to the leak.

It looks like Xenoblade 2 inspired this at least with the "pulling out the weapon from the main female character" part... or Guilty Crown... or other anime that had that same concept. Those right now are the easiest to come to mind. I'm glad we finally have news of next Tales of game. After Berseria, the company has been rather silent.

I'm kind of glad they took that sort of approach though. Stay quiet until you are within a year or so of being ready to release the game. I always expected another Tales game to show up and it coming out about 3 years or so after Berseria made sense time-wise.

I am glad they revealed it and that the wait isn't too nuts. Now just have to look forward to next year. Regardless of the exact inspiration, I hope the concept works well in the game.

It’s mostly just cutscenes in the trailer, but it definitely looks like a lot If effort has gone into the game already.
People complained about Berseria not using the full power of the PS4. Well it looks like they solved that problem.

And I guess people don’t acknowledge VelvetxLiphicet as romance.

Oh my god. The rumors were true. As a faithful Tales enthusiast I’m so happy and giddy right now. I’m okay to miss the anime-ish style that Berseria and Zesteria used, but as long as the story and character work together well I’m all on board with this change. Namco Bandai...you never cease to amaze me.

It’s a cute ship and everything, but fans are reluctant to let it set sail because well...

Tales always used an anime-style. It wasn’t anything new for Zesteria or Berseria. The only time they moved away from anime-style was with the “CG version” of Hearts. Which didn't do very well, as I recall, and was never seen again after it’s initial release.
The anime-style is most definitely here in Arise, just a bit more mature-looking. And we all know the cutscenes and OP will be full anime.

Seeing how awesome Tales of Arise is reminds me that I need to finish Berseria sometime. It's been a year or so since I got it and I'm still only around... halfway I think through the story

Haven't gotten around to playing it yet (Zestiria really hurt...), but my understanding is it's more of a familial love rather than romance.

I feel like a true "romance" hasn't been done since Graces F. Closest we've had otherwise was one-sided love in Xillia and Ludger getting a wife in the normal end of Xillia 2.

That said, I'm still being cautious about this title ever since the interview a few days back where they said they want to give the series a "rebirth". As long as the combat stays true to Tales we'll be good, but otherwise...

I wonder if they'll just localize it as "Shion."

So far I like what the trailers have shown. Of course they've got to get it right and we won't know for sure until next year. But I'm willing to hope for the best since they did bounce back nicely with Berseria.

If nothing else the arguably hostile banter and initial relationship with the leads should keep things entertaining. Also kind of interesting with Shionne apparently a thorn effect on herself as a curse.

You can't blame them for saying that considering the series has officially been on a decline since Xillia.

It’s definitely not familial in Berseria. The way Liphicet acts towards Velvet, and even the way Velvet acts towards him later in the game, definitely isn’t familial.

It definitely wasn’t one-sided in Xillia either, Milla felt for Jude the same way. It becomes especially apparent in the later parts of the character side-story for Jude and Milla in Xillia 2.

Nothing really new, other than now I perceive the female lead to be annoying.

Really losing faith in this game.
