After watching episode 4, in term of gory level and violence, visually this series has surpassed Berserk. >_<

I haven't seen the uncensored Gantz yet, so cannot compare yet. ^^

It was kinda sad the way she died, I mean the boss was ordering her to be put down because she cannot be use anymore. They were treating her like an animal. Maybe it would have been more merciful if Lucy had killed her first.

Ooh, Its a nice dark, gore anime. I'll definatly be buying these DVDs. A lot of good series have been coming out lately (Tsukihime, Samurai Champloo, Elfen Lied) - two fo those which I watched even though they were licensed. So, as my policy says - if I like it, I'll buy it - I'll be buying this series.

When they were putting Nana down, I was relatively surprise to see any emotional response to the always stoic Kurama and his assistant, whatever her name was.

The way I intepreted the body language, Kurama never told Nana what exactly that syringe was for. He probably lied, but she saw through it, judging by Kurama's reaction when Nana said "Sayonara."

Being that she is missing all her limbs, if she has any brains, she 'should' know something is wrong.

Also, I know that I'm being a little anal, but isn't it slightly impossible for someone who has lost all her limbs able to survive so long without any medical attention? She should have gone into shock in the first minute after losing all her limbs and bled to death within five minutes. Ah, the miracles of anime.

I wanted to ask, does anyone know why Kouta doesn't do anything when Nyu is taking by that sick guy (teacher I think he was). Also did that guy rape Nyu? I also noticed that theres a bunch of girls trying to become really personal with Koata, really personal.

probably because Kouta don't know anything about Nyuu's past and the teacher say he can help her. *a Japanese illiterate person*
and most likely he never made it to rape her before his head was sent flying ^^;

being cold, he looks like the most troubled person, probably even more than Kouta. He's always the target, if not his daughters. T__T

I noticed in the manga that Lucy doesn't want anything to do with Koata, but Nyu loves him. I can't tell whether she's annoyed by him or wants him dead, I can't remember if she has ever tried to kill him. The last chapter I read was really creepy, looks like there is about to be a 3way with Koata, Nyu, and the childhood friend. Then BAM, Lucy shows up . i wonder if they will include all the ecchiness into the anime

Just watched episode 4 but in the manga...

Nana doesn't die, I believe, although I've just skimmed most of the volumes up to Vol 8. She did however, receive artificial limbs which she eventually managed to get used to (hint: look at nana's background pic on elfen lied's "story" section on the official website)

This anime has kept me on the edge of my chair right now. I am impressed with the plot so far and I keep questioning how much darker and twisted the author can go. The darker the better! More gore more blood!

The manga is still under publication and serialization (i.e. ongoing). Hence the material for the anime would again only be a fraction of the manga. It is visible that the anime has already taken several absolute changes from the manga. I would not be surprised if by mid-series (Ep 6 or 7), the whole anime plot would be totally different from the manga.

Managed to get episode 2. Since episode one, I've been watching this anime with Spanish subtitles.

What can I say?

The dark, creepy mood atmosphere brewed in the beach magnificiently propelled the suspense factor.

This episode revealed Lucy's Vector abilities.

The shadow, ghostly arms psychically bound on her.

Everytime I see Lucy onscreen, I even fell in love with her more. Not only because of her self-survival, blank personality but also because of the enriching animation treatment that the crew constantly gives her.

I felt dissappointed that she could not wasted properly that gruffy, Bando guy.

She poked his eyes all the way down, dislodged his left arm, and tore apart his right arm. Ouch!! That would hurt for the poor bastard, but he should look upon the bright side. At least, his legs and the rest of his remaining body
was kept unscathed.

I applaud again the writers and animators for showing to the audience Lucy's psychological transformation into Nyu. Although, I would also felt pleased if they could have displayed Nyu's transformation into Lucy, too.

When Lucy took a peep to the object she was holding, immediately she freaked out feeling a grand migrane and turned to Nyu.

That object was, in fact, a pink seashell that Nyu found on the beach to make ammends for the previous one she broke to Kouta.

The scenes with Nyu onscreen along with Kouta somehow remind me of Chobits.

Kouta needed to change her clothes because Nyu got soaked in the rain, and it was funny hilarious how he was keeping his eyes shut, so as do not seeing her naked body, while he was clothing her.

This episode ended with another aghast revelation.

Another girl like Lucy/Nyu, partially soaked in blood. That close-up shot to her face I felt it disturbing plus ominous.

About that coment, after watching several episodes of Elfenlied I think Nyuu and Chii are different in personality. Where Chii is more like a doll mentality that trying to become human. While

Kids... that's what I tought when she interupted Kouta and Yuka after dinner in episode 4. ^^;;

Here's an explanation to some of the questions people asked above, too lazy to quote, sorry. Some of the answers are probably going to be answered in future epsiode of the anime anyway. Mostly manga spoilers.

Does Nana really die after epsiode 4 of anime?

If the producers are going to follow the manga exactly, NO. However they might change that for the anime since it's only 13 epsiode planned anyway. Since it doesn't look like no.35 Mariko will show up in the anime, I think it has a good chance that Nana is actually killed off.

So what actually happens to Nana in manga?

Spoiler:

First she gets artifical limbs, she stays around for a bit, but nevertheless the order to kill her off was handed down. Instead of killing Nana off, Kurama just helped her escape. Being "abandoned", Nana meets Bandou, and later on meets Mayu, and stays in Kouta's house. However at the same time, wanting to elimated the "escaped" Nana, No.35 Mariko was sent after to kill her.

Why did Mayu run away from home?

She got a new dad, and let's say her dad is...not so nice to her. Nor her mother. If I were her I probably do the same.

Her dad molested her while her mom didn't give a damn

Why doesn't Kouta stops his professor from taking Nyuu/Lucy?

The professor claimed that Nyuu is his niece and Nyuu's parents are very worried, and that Kouta should not take her away. Of course it was all BS, just a plot to get her.
