Time skip and MC and Hoshino were actually texting each other the whole time. MC tells her he loves her, she obviously corresponds and jumps to kiss him.

Thanks. I dropped this and I don't know if I'll ever want to start reading again, but it's nice to know that at least the author managed to (or was forced to?) give the series a more proper closure.
