2ch...going....dying....Soon.sorta - Joke
http://www.2ch.net/ I woke up today, switch to 2ch to search for the latest happening in Japan, only to see this annoucement. Seems that Hiroyuki or whoever runs 2ch now is filing for bankruptcy. I suppose I can say that I'm surprise that 2ch manage to last this long looking at the amount of post it can sustain each day. Looking at the future, I think that the fans will either bail the domain owner out or another will rise from the ashes. But the prospect of a prominent place on the net dying is enough for a discussion, I think. |

If it's true, then I for one probably wouldn't lament its downfall. And I guess it's about time their laissez-faire attitude to hate speech of any sort (from anti-football, anti-Haruhi, anti-Korean, you name it) is finally coming back to haunt them in the form of a lawsuit.
Last year's Anime Saimoe tournament gave me a pretty good idea of how the place is filled with - xenophobic and racist pricks, who can get away with their hate speech simply because they're all Mr. Anonymous. Even if they're not in the majority, they are very vocal. Everytime they see a result they don't like, they instantly blame it on Gaijin-san, or to be more precise, Korean-otas and Chinese-otas. That pretty much tarnished the impression I had of the place, not even Densha Otoko's legend can redeem it. But I suppose another similar one would be made by other 2ch denizens with nowhere else to go in due time. |

2ch is in even more trouble than 4chan currently is right now. Image boards are expensive to host, and people spamming illegal material and blocking advertisements does not make it easier on the owner since if the advertisements don't show up on the visitors computers, they won't give the domain owner any money. The chs and chans are just part of the internet, they ARE the internet.

It is, after all, the biggest and, arguably, most influential internet community in the world. I'd say it'd be a loss if it disappeared.

I repeat waht I said, looking at how deeply 2h had embedded itself into the Japanese net society and all the crazy things that had happened in the past , either the 2ch addicts will bail Hiroyuki out or they will start a 2ch kai/2ch MK-II.
Those fanatics will never let their religion dies. |

From what I've heard, it all began in the middle of 2006, when a Tokyo salaryman requested Hiroyuki to remove all defamatory posts of him. As usual, Hiroyuki ignored his requests. So the salaryman had no choice but to take the case to the local magistrate's.
Yet after many court summonings, Hiroyuki failed to turn up in court, and so from September onwards, the magistrate fined Hiroyuki 50,000 yen per day for "Contempt of Court" for not turning up. The fine has now accumulated to over 5 million yen. Let this be a lesson to all moderators that both excessive control or too little of it (as with 2ch's case) of their message boards are to be avoided. |

Taking out trash: insignificant favor Turning off ad-blockers: insignificant favor. Also, for the whole year I have been to 4chan and posting there, I have never even once gotten banned from any of the sections. It's all of a matter of whether or not you took it to far or if you repeatedly posted in the wrong sections. |

Desu? Desu? Desu??????
2Chan is pretty much the Japanese Version of Neogaf...If your looking for a new place to go Except Neogaf does one thing 2Chan doesnt...They require you to use a real email address...They remove bit of the anym part out of it. Anymon ones such as Hotmail and Yahoo will not work. you have to have one that is connect to you...like the one given to you by your internet provider. So you get a lot less stupidity there...but the OT forums are pretty much the same enjoyment
