I knew the character designs looked familiar, ever since I started reading Sarachi Yomi's Mermaid Boys manga.

I don't know if anyone else is watching this, but I rather like it. Not as good as Skate to Infinity, but leagues better then Skate Leading Star.

I was not expecting the show to go this direction, even if that scene of them parting at the cross walk was rather ominous. I now wish they'd focused more on Sho and his background if this was what they were going to do.

Also, I hope they don't take this development back. (But, who am I kidding?!) It would be rather cheap and cliche, if they go, "Oh! He just moved and didn't tell anyone."

Thanks to your post, I got curious and checked out episode 1. It is a very laid back series (both expert surfers, the sister/mother, and store characters are super chill and kind). Even the MC while chiched is not so much a baka hothead as you would find in other anime. Maybe he is, but I've only seen ep 1 so far.

I'm definitely liking it for the relaxing atmosphere. We really could use more of these kinds of anime to take us to further escapes from the real world we currently live in. Also, its a great way to showcase a new sport/activity that's not previously done before.

Anyways, only thing I found it hard to believe was how MC was ok to suit up and paddle board without being good at swimming. To pull off the wave riding is a bit far fetched, but its anime, right?

EDIT: I dropped Skate Leading Star because I lost interest in the premise (not a real sport, characters are unappealing/cliched, story is toxic/negative/revenge which won't do the sport of ice skating any justice, skate scenes were not animated as much as they could have - the list goes on...). I would much rather watch a happy go lucky anime that has sport as a medium to develop characters. Something like Harukana Receive portrayed beach volleyball in a good positive way, and wasn't too overly competitive.

I'm still watching the show in hopes we'll eventually get some nice skating scenes, but I pretty much agree with you. I don't have a problem with a show wanting to do the typical character rivalries, but it's like the creators forgot that characters should also be at least relatable if not likable. If 90% of the cast is annoying you kind of have a problem.

All caught up with episode 7 for Wave. So far, it's been decent. The characters are still a bit stiff, and the waves, they've done a good job so far for anime standards.
