8-bit definitely delivers on how well they are animating this series. I'm really glad that they really putting an effort for this. This will make the 2-cour even great.

Well, I think Rimuru was pretty strong even before meeting Veldora so that also helps

Veldora did mention that Rimuru was likely to be a unique monster with powerful ability due to being an Otherworlder albeit in an unusual form

the pacing and animation is fantastic. I'm a bit antsy to see my favorite scenes but this is good. nice slime reactions too.

The flashy graphics when learning skills are nice.

Great Sage, best girl.

In terms of a harem, umm I guess this counts as one?

Spoiler:
If someone tried to sell you this series on the basis that it was a "harem" then you'd likely demand a refund. There's respect, there's friendship but not romance IIRC.

The target audience? Sort-of "shounen" and sort-of "seinen". The MC was over 30 so normally that's a good indication. There are some darker and more serious aspects but I'd also expect plenty of episodes that aren't too different in tone to the first two.

If that is harem to you, then you probably missing like... 70% of anime nowadays.

Considering the series is selling the character and the setting...

The series doesnt focus on certain term object (vanguard card, beyblade, soccer ball, etc), it has action but the gore is minimum, comedy is sprinkled pretty much in every chapter in the manga, and then there is slice of life part.
the plot is easy to follow, not as dark as AOT but not exactly sunshine and rainbow too (somewhere on sao level?). It has a lot of waifu but also ikemen too, there is harem but it kept on check on minimum basis, the series didnt try to use heavy terminology either.

Personally i think the TA is pretty wide range in this case, from middle to college student, adult, even elementary student can follow this series if they like anime.

After the first two episodes I am impressed with Rimuru's VA. Totally selling the character. Wonder what their initial reaction was when their agent explained that they would be voicing a slime.

they'll probably just need to have a higher pitched voice like a shounen or shoujo, depending what the director is looking for.
based on the pictures on page 1, the slime can change to humanoid form so it's not so bad than the va voicing pokemon.

This has been a really cute anime, cute enough I bought the English translated LNs and read them. I do like how the humor comes through in the anime, it seems even more precious when animated.

I agree. It's so refreshing to see an MC with a nice, earnest personality.

If by earnest, you mean wanting to be friends with the stealth guy to peek on people. then yeah. very earnest

Well, at least he didn't want to eat him to get his ability. Stealth is a very useful skill for spying.

Overall, I liked the first 2 episodes. Getting to the positives so far: It is very charming, and by far that is main thing carrying this for me in it's absence of much of plot and plodding pacing. Satoru (or should we say Rimuru now?) interactions with Verudora were rather fun and not the kind of thing you would normally see early on in a fantasy setting. The malleably of Rimuru's state as slime is also neat and I can see a lot of creative usages for his powers down the line. The technical merits of the show are also pretty strong with consistently fluid animation and pleasing bright art-direction.

The caveats however is that this once again another long trend of fantasy settings mired in RPG cliches and mechanics as lore. It's seems that most writers who implore these things into their stories miss the crucial fact that RPGs normally don't call attention to fact there are stats, HP bars, classes etc attached to their characters and world. They strive to be as organic as possible not the inverse. Worse as the constant "Skill Acquisition" prompts exemplify in practice these thing more often than are irritating interruptions after a while and drag down the pacing when doesn't need too. It seems like there no point for it be there other telling watcher that Rimuru is going to OP really soon and really fast. The fact everything he does no matter how minor makes it all the more worse. I don't feel like setting need any of that and more natural approach would have suited the show just fine. At very least I would prefer more characterization of Rimuru in place of all that.

Still the last 1/3rd of episode 2 was mercifully devoid of that fairly enjoyable as result. So I'm still interested enough to see where it goes.

I wonder if anyone noticed this, but:

Overlord: Satoru Suzuki -> Momonga -> Ainz Ooal Gown

TSSDK: Satoru Mikami -> "Slime A" -> Rimuru Tempest

(in japanese they they use last names before the first names, so in Japanese it's "Suzuki Satoru" and "Mikami Satoru" but I adjusted it for western terminology, since the characters in the isekai worlds use that form as well).

I checked the wikis and it seems that the protagonists have literally the same first name "Satoru". It's also the same Kanji.

oh look.. it's goblins... better demolish them with clubs... oh wait! they have female goblin.. okay different anime

I always expect Rimuru as cute slime but never expect Veldora what a loud cute dragon
When Rimuru chomped on magicite in the cave, is his magic parameter got increased?
I can't recall why he become so strong... is it only because he took over Veldora's power?
