But also pantsu too. I mean, this is Mieruko, after all. Not Mienaiko.

Mieruko-chan. First thoughts
I watched the promo trailer for Mieruko-chan a week before the release date, and I knew this show would hook me from the get go.
Aside from the fanservice being delightful, Mieruko tries her best to mind her business with all ghosts swarming on her day in and day out without rest, and yet her sanity will be reaching breaking point sooner or later. I guess she'll have no other way around but to get used to the spirits like someone being afflicted every day by either a psychological condition or physical symptom and coping with the effects. |

Are Japanese schools unlocked over night? We see these occasional scenes of kids coming back to school at night, and they always seem unrealistic.
I, too, was put off by the fanservice, and by the fact that so little actually happened in this episode. If there isn't more plot in the next week or two, I won't be continuing.

What was the point of Hana mentioning she's going commando when it was completely irrelevant to the rest of the episode? When the ghost started molesting her, I thought Miko would have to try to prevent it from lifting up her skirt without the ghost noticing her. It would have added a bit more tension and some comedy to the whole thing.
That ikemen is totally a cat killing psychopath. Glad Miko was there to hand the cat over to a good person. Looks like there are nice ghosts around, too.

The first episode did a better job in building suspense and tension as we got various fake jump scares not to mention not all sightings proved to be real. Things were played more straight in the second episode with the horror element taking a backseat to the comedy act which took a prominent role in the second episode.
Decent start but I hope we get more things introduced to the formula because if every episode turns out like the second one then things could get repetitive. In any case it is a good opening act for Mieruko-chan. The various camera shots were amusing. I don't think the fanservice actually had a big impact in the build-up of suspense as the second episode would have largely been devoid of that if even the fanservice scenes were omitted. Yes, fanservice was present in the first episode but it featured less there. More important however was the fact it was not included in the key moments. It was timed correctly so as not to break the mood of the horror scenes. At least that is how I felt about it. Saying that I can see this being a turnoff to someone who is sensitive to that stuff. On the whole though I think, from a commercial standpoint, it is probably the correct move as the fanservice will reel more people in than turn them away. |

Mieruko-chan. Episode 2. She Totally Sees Them
The episode split in between Miko continuing running-in with ghosts at school and on the way home while fending them off from her best friend, Hana, and at the same time averting a death flag queueing at pastry shop, if it wasn't for Hana.
The other half of the episode was put bluntly into words by Miko, not judging the book by its cover. Spoiler:
BTW, I do not have qualms whatsoever over the fanservice. I think is used within context depending on the ghosts' desires, or the situation the girls find themselves in. |

One good thing I can say about episode 2 is that I'm glad to see the two nekomatas clinging to the yakuza-guy's back. Aside from being nice from the story standpoint, it's also nice in a meta-way coz we finally see variety of spirits & apparition aside from the dark & gloomy humanoids.
