Xris has made a very good post about this http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=156 just scroll to the bottom of the post and you'll find a good explanation OST This is the Original SoundTrack of an anime in essence the collection of songs and themes used in a series. These usually appear on CD too. So they are the same as movie music CD's... |

OVA: Original Video Animation--Usually stuff long enough but does not have the clout (money) to make it in theatrical presentation. These gets cut into smaller pieces--two-sies or three-sies--air on TV(Optional, I think) and released on DVD. Many OVA are short sequels, prequels or spin-offs of a completed series. However a good number of OVAs are either independent or are the first installment of a franchise. Most notable OVA-First(in a franchise) is R.O.D. which has 3 parts to the OVA, then followed by the TV Series. Currently, King of Bandits Jing: In Seventh Heaven, an OVA of the TV Series, is being worked on by many fansub groups.
OST: Original SoundTrack--The OP/ED songs, BGMs, other series-related songs performed by the actor/actresses, get compiled into a CD.--like another Broadway or Movie OST. oy and I was writing to my hearts content and checking it twice |
