Just finished watching ep 1 and I have to say, this show will have a bright future ahead of it

The animation work was truely fantastic! I'm usually a fanatic of Kyoto Animation's work but I liked the this one too. Also, the character design was great too! I still can't make up my mind between which loli to be obsessed with, Otoha; Karen or Eika, they're all just too darn MOE! The music showed so far in episode one were good and the OP was very nice. Although the words were sometime stupid but the general rhythm and music was good.

Moving to the story line. Although the story is a typical tragic earth VS aliens, but as a friend of mine said "stfu and enjoy the loli-ism". But the flow of ep1 was a slow at the start but things got a little rushed at the end (especially with the part where she realized her grandfather's action). Speaking of that, the expression she had on her face when she attacked her grandfather (before her hit) was very very nice! I just loved those orange eyes! Although she is the main loli, but I was a little sad because Eika and Karen didn't have much focus on this episode (especially Eika-tan! She got totally humiliated). But I hope their stories will be unfolded properly in the following episodes. For a 1st episode, I'd say it was good and attractive

And if any graphic designer won't mind, we want loli avatars XD

First ep was quite okay, gotta need to wait for more to see how it turns out.

All i can say, avoid there h264 release, it's upsampled and made very blurry, wasted a lot of bandwidth thx to that.

MAN! I'm so psyched to actually be watching and commenting on a series at the same time all you guys are! ^_^

Just watched the first episode, taking a break from my bull-rush through Black Cat.

I liked it. ^_^

I know that Otoha is pretty much the main heroine, but Ichijo was definitely my favorite from the OAV and I expect her to be my fave in the series.

I can't wait for more of this to come out. I'm definitely liking that they start before the OAV so we can get the background information right up front, whereas in the OAV we were thrust right into things.

Oh, and Tenerezza, I didn't have a single problem with the h264 release. I got the xVid too, since you'd said your h264 had problems, but my copy was perfectly fine. No problems at all.

Well its' exciting to have this series getting started. Should be an interesting one though since I enjoyed the OVA. Fine little introduction episode to get us familiar with the background of the universe and some characters.

Feel bad for the grandfather though. I mean losing your son in the military has to be horrible enough. But now having your grandaughter go and worrying about her fate must be rough.

Okay done watching Episode One: "Candidates"


Well on to the summary...

First up animation like I assume other have said before me great very true to the OVA's and lets hope they keep it that way.

Well all and all it was your basic first episode complete with character introductions and some background on the main heroins for this one mostly focuses on Otoha. While loosely introducing Eika and Karen who I assuming will be getting more screen time next episode.

Otoha like in the OVA is protruded as the female equivalent of your average shuonen hero full of dreams and guts. However still managing to keep her cheerful girlish personality even if she can get pretty violent when need be. This is very apparent when she wants to leave her grandpa's dojo to join the military to learn how to "fly".

Her grandpa of course doesn't want her to leave so he challenges her to match to see if shes strong enough to be on her own. Now I don't mean to be picking or anything but I think the whole thing would've been more touching had he not let her win. :roll:

We also get to see a bit Eika and Karen in this episode as well and they too have their own share of issues. Eika like in the OVA has an overall serious personality. You know the battle harden solider with ace piloting skills type. Shes staring to grow a little inferiority complex because a rival pilot form another base (who I'm guessing is Elise) keeps beating her in mock battles with a her new mech or "Sonic Drive Unit" as it's called in the anime. (Hang in their Eika you'll get on soon enough)

Finally we come to Karen who like in the OVA is quite, insecure, shy around boy (Awww...her shyness moe is so cute) and to top it all off despite being a genus with a bachelors degree the poor thing has no idea what she wants for her future. You'd think that when the military shows up to ask her to be a test pilot she'd jump right on of course her shyness is getting better of her and she doesn't what do. Hopefully she'll come around in the next episode.

Well this episode was pretty much what I expceted. It was a bit fast but I suppose that was because the writers thought a lot of people watched the OVA and ready had a good idea of what story was about. Which is a big assumption if ask me other it was good so I'll give it a 10/10. Anyway I think it's at least wroth a try to just see if you like it.

Sadly, yes. There are a lot of good anime that doesn't get much attention of people when it starts airing. But on later episodes it starts getting more attention and people realize how good the show is.

When the action really starts, most people will start flocking.

I have not seen OAV, which I am going to REAL SOON, but the way they did the beginning of this episode, I got enough to still be able to watch this series without watching OAV and still be able to enjoy it and know what is happening. I am going to go watch OAV as... soon... as... I... can... get... this... torrent......... by the way, what is the full name of the previous season, and what does OAV exactly mean??

All in all, this episode was great!

OAV stands for "Original Animated Video". Another term also used is OVA, which means "Original Video Animation". This is basically the same as a direct-to-video release, bypassing theatrical or television markets.

And there wasn't any previous season for this show, it's brand new.

There isn't a "previous season" of Sky Girls. There is the current TV series of Sky Girls and there was the earlier OVA

Have a read of what OVA/OAV means and that should clear it up. See the last post of the How Many Episodes: Answered here! thread for the meaning of OVA.
