Isshin was his superior, regardless of whether Urahara became Captain or not, if Isshin is from a previous generation of Captains that makes Isshin a Superior. And I'm pretty sure he meant that if Isshin was in the Royal Guard Urahara wouldn't know him or be familiar with his powers.

I'm curious as to why you think that. All captains besides Yamamoto are of equal rank, being older doesn't give anyone any more actual authority.

I kind what I'm thinking of is kinda like seniority.
Like Yoruichi, even after Urahara became Captain, her equal in status. She was still his superior because of her being his former-Captain.

She wasn't superior to him. She just told him off because he was not behaving like a Captain.

i still would like an answer.
the argument of superiority is moot if the statement never happened.

Exactly, to me, it looked like she was disciplining him as a former-subordinate

No, imo she was helping him as a friend. If he hadn't stopped, Yama'd have been the one who stopped him, with some serious punishment.

This actually never happened so I have no idea what these people are talking about.... All I know is that when Urahara was talking to Isshin it seemed like he was being extra polite or something, you know some small insignificant stuff that people make a big deal about and then relate it to being the reason why Isshin may have been Captain of 10th Squad

But I still think Isshin is older than Urahara like Kyoraku's age because he looks really old like 40 and we all know how long that takes to happen in SS

But he had been living in the world of the living for about 20 years now and he must have been aging during tat tim or his family would find something strange.

Also, Shinji hadn't recognised his reiatsu and if he was captain of squad 10 at same time as Shinji and the other Visards, he would hae recognised it.

I think he might have some connection with squad 0 (Royal Guard)

Ok I just need to know:
How many people think that Isshin:
a) Older than Shinji and other Vaizairds and left before they came
b) Newer than the Vaizairds and came after they left
c) Was around the time the Vaizairds were there but they don't recognize him because Isshin is half hollow like Ichigo

I pick A, he seems to have left before they came.

d) same as or older than vizards and no one recognizes his reitsu because it changed in the process of losing and regaining his powers (potential visual recognition is moot since rukia is the only one who ever met him and she is a relatively new death god).

Or because bleach is extremely inconsistent about when and who's reiatsu is detected. It's purely plot convenience, I'm sure once KT want's him to be revealed everyone will instantly recognize blah blah blah.

I think this is the most likely answer for what happened to Isshin Kurosaki.

At an unknown moment in time, Isshin left the soul society and came to the world of the living, where he either sought out or just discovered urahara.

In order to hide from the soul society he was given a gigai without reishi so it would be untraceable.

The gigai as Aizen said, will eventually take away his powers and leave him as a complete human.

This explains how he was able to have children, and lead a normal life.

Wether he let his powers fade by choice remains to be seen, but i think it was by choice.

This theory explains everything. He probably got his powers back then way ichigo did. It explains his relationship with urahara too.

And how does that explain how he was still in power and defeated an arrancar with a simple slash after being human for at least 16 years?

If you read the entire thing which i wrote. He probably regained his powers the same way ichigo did. He already had the training and knowledge so he would be almost at his former power when he regained it.

Are there undetectable gigai? Rukia had one with that magic trinket that took her powers.

yes gigai without reishi cannot be tracked. And will drain the person of all spirit energy over time leaving them as a human. Its in episode 61 when aizen is speaking to rukia.

Yes, yes and Isshin said his power was still weak so he must have still been in the process regaining his reiatsu.... he probably started around the time Ichigo became a shinigami considering how large his reiatsu must be
