Plunderer [Winter 2020]

Manga 'Plunderer' is getting an anime adaptation.

Plot Summary
Quote:
It's the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, and the world is currently entirely controlled by "numbers." Every human born is branded with a "Count." This Count can be anything; the amount of kilometers walked, or the amount of people who have said your food is tasty. If your Count drops to 0, you will be sent into the Abyss. After Hina's mother's Count dropped to 0, her last request was for Hina to look for the Legendary Red Baron.

the girl seems very stupid.
She walked around over 40,000kms around, but doesn't know any of the basics of how the world works?

The world has some interesting concepts, but the characters really drag this down. The Ace is apparently going to have a being a perv gimmick and the girl is ridiculously naive for someone that has traveled so much.

People may not have been kind enough to talk to her. We don't know how she managed to survive alone all those years. That in itself is a feat. I wouldn't call her "stupid", more like "naive". If anything, her mother should have clued her in on how the world works.

But we see her having a very normal conversation with the two girls at the start of the episode. It did not seem like the first time she had talked to someone in five years. And where did her clothes come from? She had to get new ones sometime and food so she had to be talking to people.

It just came across as very insulting. "We need to explain all the numbers and stuff in the first episode. Should we have a narrator or try to work it in as she walks around the town?" "No, just have someone tell her all about it in a big lump" "But why would someone just tell her all about the basics of a world she was born and raised in?" "I do not know maybe she is an idiot. Just stop bothering me and get to work on it" "But won't that throw the audience out of the story and make everything look artificial?" "They are watching anime they are probably idiots as well so it will seem natural to them."

Licht seems like your average lecherous pervert who's also secretly this legendary warrior with combat skills out the wazoo. I'm not necessarily against main characters being obvious perverts, but I can understand it being a little tough to swallow his actions towards women in today's climate. I can't say there was much about him I found endearing otherwise, but maybe his character will grow on me as we get more into his backstory...

And, hey, at least all the women treat him like the scumbag he acts like .

Hina seems like a typical young, beautiful, and sweet ingenue who unfortunately gets easily taken advantage of. I did like that scene where she realized she could use her higher Number to get him to stop, even if it didn't end up mattering. I hope the rest of the series doesn't consist of her getting sexually harassed or assaulted in constant damsel in distress moments, but at least she has reasonable reactions to it instead of just taking it .

It seems like the military will be the main antagonistic force? It appears them abusing their rank and privilege, no matter their number, is a common practice .

Haha, it was funny when I saw an English comment complain about his actions towards the heroine. That's why I wish they animate Judas. I'd love to see how those people think about the portrayal of the disciples.

To be fair, you could have someone walk from one side of the world to the other and they still probably wouldn't have a clue as to how each country works.

Kind of the opposite, if someone is able to travel alone from one side of the world from the other on foot, he/she would definitely have a stable understanding of how the world works.

Plunderer is a decent series but remember the author is the one who wrote Sora no Oto with the angelroids and Tomoki. Know what you are getting into people.

Not understanding a culture is one thing. Not understanding the basic rules of the world you live in is something else entirely.

I blame the parents. That's just something you train/educate your kid and not something that an adult is going to be told.

You'll have to dive into the Abyss to tell her mom that.

I certainly can appreciate any anime that is able irritate this sort of people. That said I still prefer anime's that are actually enjoyable on its own. Which I cannot say yet. I really hope that story and characters can stand on its own.
