Makes being cliché-ridden a virtue. Looks set to become a surprise hit, with me and with others.
Hanae Natsuki does a terrific job with the main character. Those outbursts are just the cherries on top of a very effective performance. Mimori Suzuko as the maid is outstanding, and so is her singing of the OP. The queen is so effectively played (in the few lines we got of her) by Fuchigami Mai, who was Maekami-san in Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and Miho in Girls und Panzer. She sings the ED well, too. It's amazing to hear Uchida Maaya (Rikka in Chuunibyou) graduating to the elder sister role of the bodyguard.

This guy's overreactions at anything he finds moe are facepalm-worthy. It's one thing to think someone's moe, it's quite another to stand up and scream about it the second you see them.
I'm with the empress: execute him. Then bring in someone who can exercise self-restraint. Aside from the protagonist annoying me, however, I have no real objections.

Actually, the protagonists' interactions with Miusel makes me think we're in good hands here. I've been to maid cafes a few times at conventions, and they really nailed how awkward being a "master" is at first.

So I was watching this a second time, listening closer to the native language in the Holy Eldant Empire. It bothered me before, but when I heard Miusel call him 'Retsam' the first time, its obviously "Master" spelled the other way. So using the hypothesis that the language is simply English backwards with Japanese pronunciation:
"R-Retsam..." (Master...) "Efas uoy era Retsam?" (Are you safe Master?) "Sou Tei" (Wait...) "Retsam, regnifu ruoy shina ehte tsupu" (Master, put this on your finger) |

I also thought so. It took time for me to digest her suspicious language, and then lately I just realized that all words are supposed to be spelled backwards. Besides, that scene where she started talking did not require any translation or subs. Although it's apparently in English, there are variations in spelling like a native Japanese is trying to speak English without fluency. Okay, I'll give this anime a second chance since I enjoyed some elements of the story. If you cannot extend your influence through weaponry, religion and or women then, better use entertainmentfor world domination. All you need to do is make use of an expert's skills, respect the way of the otaku.

I have made a characters/seiyuus page for this show, with pics of eight main characters and their seiyuus, and some info about each seiyuu. Good and interesting cast. Hanae Natsuki is really on the rise, especially since playing Kiri in Crime Edge. Mimori Suzuko, Uchida Maaya, and Uesaka Sumire are also rising names. I think Fuchigami Mai is beginning to move ahead, too.
The agent is played by Fujiwara Keiji, of course, and it's interesting to contrast his own kind of rough and masculine image with the image of his character. An even greater male seiyuu is due to appear, too: Miki Shinichirou.

Man you can stab someone with that chin.
LOL I so did not expect to enjoy that first episode as much as I did. I'm adding Outbreak Company to my fall anime list <- I never thought I would write that sentence. Goes to show that even if an anime plot sounds shitty you should still give the first episode a try. This is exactly how I envision a typical otaku's fantasy to be like lol. |
