This except it all looked cheap, the fight scene choreography and direction were pretty nice. I can't get past bad animation though if the show has a good plot and characters

Ahah.. i had the same feeling. It was still nice tho. The fight scenes were awesome and i kinda liked the MC. He was already strong even without the powers and his martial arts background can fuel well choreographed fights in the future (at least i hope so). And i have to say, but this Saber ripoff design is even hotter than the original. Sorry Saber fans
The comedy is a bit like Bungou Stray Dogs so it will be a hit or miss in half of it's sequences. Anyway, i'm surprised with this title. Will follow it for sure!

Cheap? You just dont like the style. There is many fluid moments, extreme amount of shading that already proves there is more effort being put than ur typical anime, and camera motion flows smoothly.

Calling it cheap is like calling a 5 star restaurant cheap because you dont like the flavor. Call it ugly thats fine but cheap lol. I doubt its cheap to make those fight moves.

There is no flow. Transition between scenes is rough and choppy. The episode looks like they put only keyframes into casual shots and nothing but keyframes, and then put everyone else on the fighting scenes. There are Visual Novels with better transitions between scenes than this slideshow.

Just finished episode 1.

Show looks decent, the fights are interesting to watch and the comedy is not half bad.
The only complain so far are plain characters ( this is still first episode so it's a given ) and how much episode felt rushed. So much info was dumped to me I had a feel I was watching this for 40 minutes.

Also... anyone else felt some Fate wibe?

Tattoo's resemble Command Spells, Izzy looks like Saber ( even looks younger when she is much older, just like Arthuria ) and MC looks like Velvet.

But that is ok, as it only made it more interesting.

And if Fate wibe was not strong enough we now have Rin Tohsaka fulfilling the role of Dark Sakura. So Alter Rin in a sense... xD

Anyhow another good episode, I like the humor and I like how it felt rushed when you watch it but it's not in the same time. Fights are again very good to watch. Tattoo's are interesting so far, it seems that each one is giving it's user unique power to yield, it will be interesting to learn more about them.

Seems like next week we will have two interesting fights. I expect they will be good.

Episode 2

A MAJOR improvement over already great first episode. Not only we retain snappy characters, great directing and brilliantly animated and choreographed action, but we also see plot grow more coherent too. What's more the comedy is working better than in the first episode too.

Also some scenery shots looked VERY nice this episode.

Not really? if anything, Izzy is more of a Rin than Saber. And the childhood friend is absolutely nothing like neither Rin or Sakura.

She psychically looks like Rin... just like Izzy looks like Saber and MC like Velvet...

And Izzy is not like Rin - she is not Tsundere which is Rin's character main trait and she does not have millitary mind or pride in battle. And Rin would never fold someone's oppai in public without any shame, unlike certain red Emperor...

Like I said - mix between codl Arthuria and lewd Nero. But you are right, there are some Rin traits mixed in there as well.

Episode 2:

Is it me or did it feel like they introduced more characters than they should already?

I'm guessing they'll have to explain some of the powers of the other tattoos. Expecting more action next time. Also, I hope they start cutting down the comedy soon as the first half of this episode made me face palm a bit.

No? I mean apart from Izzy having a ponytail they look and act nothing alike.

Could see Velvet in MC tho. Personally was getting more of Kenichi vibe from his design and background.

Being perverted does not instantly make someone Nero tho. There are plenty of perverted characters in anime.

Spoiler for Character Comparison:

Nero's defining element is pride and theatricality. She treats everything like a play and views herself as the most important person in the world.

Izzy so far is smug and military like, yet also playful. But she does not display any sort of theatrics or prideful behavior.

She is also nothing like Saber since Saber is pretty much definition of cold chivalrious kuudere. Izzy is way too playful and snarky for that.

She shares more similarities with Rin as both Rin and her seem to have some sympathy for the MC hidden away, while at the same time trying to keep up a facade of trying to act superior, while at the same time delivering some snark at the expense of protagonist. Just like Rin she also has perfect the "friendly nice girl" facade that hides her rude and damaged personality at school.
Rin can be confused as tsundere but she is beyond that trope, since she does not act according to it. And she absolutely has military mind and pride in battle. That's pretty much big part of her character. Izzy and her do share similar behavior and vulnerabilities around MC too so far. Beyond that they are different people.

She is smart, but her and millitary are two different worlds...

Nero's defining element is also being perverted, her choice of clothing and how she loves to arouse others proves that much. And Artguria is not just chivalriois kuudere - she is also a knight and a person who understand the meaning of personal sacrifice - she is also a grown women trapped in girls body.

Izzy also looks more like Saber than Rin, she has rank in the army and she is on the crusading quest to return all the tattoos. And we have seen in the fights that she is as cold and emotionless as Saber is.

She has traits from Rin as well now that you mention it. But not enough to defy her as Rin, especilly when we already have character who looks like Rin but corrupted by grail and furfilling role of Dark Sakura instead.

Long story short - let's just agree to disagree on some points.
