OMG ! How does he look? Don't tell me he looks like 70's King Kong .
I want a picture, dammit! (or maybe a link where I can see him without streaming or DL-ing the episodes ). Thanx a lot for your reply, btw.

Sigh...my worst nightmare come true. The costume is too skinny-thin for Ranma’s Panda-Dad. That Panda’s face is not even funny. It doesn’t have that ‘sarcastic face’ the anime-panda has . Still, if they really try, they can make it more ‘expressive’ by changing his face during different takes like in live action series B Robo Kabutaku or using CG.

I am actually totally fine with this being a thing that exists.
It's not like Ranma is a current hot intellectual property, so why not do something wacky with it? Especially since wacky is kind of the stock and trade of the brand. I'll look forward to it. |

As a TV special, it was a decent enough adaption. Personally I thought the Panda is fine. using CG here would only make things worse IMO. Besides, that is a pretty high quality panda suit.
Cast choices was well-received, at least in Chinese and Japanese forum that I go with the exception of the guy that plays male Ranma. The SP also draw high inteest with Aragaki Yui, one of the most popular U-25 idol/actress/singer as Akane.

The fellow who played the Male-Ranma may have got the attitude right, but damn he looks like an anorexic skeleton!!
The girl Ranma, on the other hand, has got the looks and attitude down just right. Though I must say that in terms of a faithful appearance, Tendou Soun and Doctor Tofu were the best adapted characters.

Though the one character they made too evil and heartless was Nabiki: in the manga she was still devious and greedy, but loved her family nevertheless.
In this one she's just a nasty bitch with money for blood that just dosen't give a fuck.

True, but in her defense, there really isn't much for her to show her loving side not to mention the SP re-images the beginning part of the story where Nabiki was a bit more nasty toward Ranma and everyone in general.

While the male Ranma seemed a bit too skinny, I can easily forgive that.
Some of the CG used felt cheap, especially Genma's panda costume. However, I also forgive that. The adaptation was well done, my favorites are also Dr. Tofu and Mr. Kendo. Kuno's cast was pretty damn close to perfect as well. I sincerely hope they make this a long series. I want to see Ryoga, Shampoo, Happosai, etc etc. This is such a wonderful series, it would definitely deserve a full season at least, with a bit more budget for the special effects.

One problem I had with this adaptation of Kuno:
He is meant to be a sociopath so self-absorbed with his LUST fantasy towards Akane that he barely has any empathy or even awareness to her acutal needs and wants. And yet as soon as her feelings are hurt and Ranma acts like his (accurately) insensitive self, Kuno SUDDENLY gains becomes chivalrously enraged enough to berate our hero for it. Kuno is meant to be an asshole that we love to hate, NOT a person who should have ANY decent, sympathetic and humane qualities to him at all. In that respect, Kuno is the least accurately adapted character in this entire translation.
