Wiki says the latest episode was based on The Sting which was my guess while I was watching this episode though as always it's quite loose, the big difference being that the movie involved betting on horses but if I remember correctly in both cases the con artist pretends to get killed and arrested in the end.
I have to ask though, did poker and blackjack exist in sengoku japan ?

This anime is selling very well, for it's low production cost.
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=451687 --- Very interesting the movie stuff. I only guessed the most obvious ones as I watched, could never have imagined that each episode was homaging one movie. It makes the anime a lot more interesting to watch ^^ About the ep: Spoiler for Sengoku Collection 11:

As well as "The Sting" I wonder if there isn't a hint of "True Grit" in episode 11, what with the girl seeking help to exact vengeance.
Sarah looks weak but has a lot of determination. Hisahide believes herself to be an unscrupulous villain but discovers that she has a heart after all. The story was well executed if predictable. I liked this episode. |

Sweety will be staying on for the new OP, while Yuu Kikkawa will be taking up the ED.
SenColle 11 - London and France The concept of this episode was almost as out there as Hideyoshi's, but the way it was presented ultimately made it pretty enjoyable. The universe established over the past weeks feels a little fuller now, meaning it's a perfect time to return to the boy from the very first episode, or rather, his co-workers. The miko trio's cameo as delivery girls was cute, with nobody commenting on their animal ears. I can see Maeda sparking the same kind of conversation as Coorie. She has her beautiful mode and her geeky mode, though in a reversal, the beautiful one is assumed to be the default. I'm fine with her in either of them, it's not like that uniform can hide her notable assets. Since the entire thrust of this week was undergarments, I think it's a nice time to bring up the eyecatches. This show's eyecatches, with their white and monocolor style, are pretty nice to look at, and the tasteful nudity in the "and now back to the show" bumper has been fanservicey without being overtly so. The end of this episode was pretty hot, though. Maeda can do that anytime she wants... though she appears to have a lover already. And a girl at that. So much yuri in this show, it's wonderful. |

Gotta say... really loving how this show's turning out. I'm going to be honest, I wasn't exactly expecting much from it, and I actually considered dropping it early on, but these last few weeks have certainly made me glad I stuck with it. (Not to say the first few episodes are bad, it's just that I kinda tripled the amount of shows I generally watch.)
I found Hideyoshi's ep so wildly bizarre, and absolutely loved it. I'm assuming there's some cultural information I missed, but it's definitely going to be one I remember this series for. The Soun two-parter was really great, and I kinda wish there would've been more like it. Definitely the highlight of the series in terms of action scenes. Last week's casino theme was excellent, and I loved Hisahide's overall design and characterization. Not a bad take on a guy who went out of his way to spite Nobunaga before he died. And finally, we come to Maeda Keiji. What better thing to do with the infamous kabukimono than turn him into a biker chick... who can talk with her motorcycle, Matsukaze. Not only that, but the episode had some amusing Clark Kent/Superman vibes to it, and a lovely callback to the first episode in the form of an Oota cameo. Certainly going to be one of my favorites for this series.

Juggling around with Imagawa(DAT under boob) and Maeda(DAT strip/shower scene) for best girl. (recently eliminated Hisahide for contention) |
