Summary:

Lyle Walt is a young noble boy and heir looking forward to the day he can inherent his family's territory. Except around when he was 10 year old, his parents started neglecting him more and more in favor his little sister, Celes. On his fifteenth birthday, he is challenged to a duel with his sister to see who will inherent the household and horribly loses, being cast out of his family. Afterwards, he gets treated by the family groundskeeper and receives the family heirloom Gem from him that Lyle's grandfather had entrusted to him. From there, he begins an aimless journey with his childhood friend and former fiance, Novem, and the magical jewel that houses the memories, personalities, and Skills of seven of his ancestors.

And instead of copy-pasting previous stuff I've said about the series, I'll just link the spoilery-stuff here.

The author also has another ongoing work called Dragoon that's being published by MF Books. I actually like how the author focuses quite a bit on the story of Sevens compared to certain other novels that take long detours with their plot, so I'll probably check that one out as well, eventually.

It could be either, as neither of them really make sense at the moment. The title seems to be named after the seven ancestors (author has a unique tag for the novel referring to them: 七人のご先祖様), hinting more toward it just being Engrish of trying to pluralize a plural. Seventh, as far as the plot goes, could refer to his sister (who would name a novel after the antagonist that actually rarely shows up?) or the protagonist's grandfather, who honestly isn't that important either. The protagonist himself isn't the seventh of anything (in fact, he's the ninth in his family line) unless you refer how he was going to be the inheritor of the seventh goddess' memories but lost the capability to do that thanks to the antagonist, who now instead is the "seventh". It could be one of those series that doesn't clarify until the end, as I can see this being either Engrish or Lyle becoming the seventh of something or other by the end.

Edit: Wow, the title really stands out since it's a lot shorter than all the other titles in the Web Novel section.

It's actually only a summary of the latter half of the series, and I haven't touched on recent events (things happen pretty often in this series, so over 5-6 chapters you can bet you've missed quite a bit).

It's also amusing to note that for a male-dominated society that the creation mythos was all done by goddesses and that all but two countries the protagonist has been to (7 countries total so far) have been ruled by a woman for one reason or another, and one of those two gets taken over by the antagonist leaving only one left that isn't ruled by a woman.
It's great because his ancestors at the beginning were clearly baffled by Celes even possibly becoming the head of the house with a perfectly healthy son despite however inexperienced he may be.

The past portion of his memories that were sealed by Celes wants to take over/regain his body because he views current Lyle as a hetare. But other than that he's fine for the moment.

Also, his ancestors seem to be plotting for Lyle to add two more countries' rulers to his harem and don't really plan on giving a Lyle a choice in the matter. That was actually today's chapter's ending note, the third ancestor laughing about how they oh-so loathe to give Lyle more women trouble, but it'll be funny—I mean necessary.

Oh, and Lyle decided he's going to go past king and just try to form an empire as an emperor. Turns out that even if he manages to beat Celes and Banseim (their native country), the surrounding countries would likely pick at Banseim in its weakened state, so he may as well become ruler of them all. There was the option of just supporting someone else and making them a ruler to hold most the burden, but that someone else doesn't exist so he decided to just take on the pain-of-a-task of becoming emperor. Though they haven't specified how they're going to do that yet. Seems to so far be by seducing women in power.

The series is a working-your-way-up from nothing story. Lyle, having only book-learned knowledge and his own inborn talent as an extremely sheltered noble boy, grows with the sometimes not-so-helpful advice of his ancestors. The characterization is well done for all the characters and Lyle's growth is pretty evident as the story goes on.

Spoiler for Harem?:

Yes, it's a harem story, but the harem isn't as played on as you might think or even hope. Lyle, for better or worse, has no backbone to be assertive with women. To top it off, the story tends to not give them, or at least show much of, romance between the heroines and Lyle. It generally focuses on the plot and doesn't do random chapters of just Lyle and the heroines having a date or something. Whenever they do have a date (it does happen, but rarely), generally something plot-related happens in the middle of it.
One example of it not focusing on harem stuff is that Lyle gains a skill called Connection, that makes it where you can share senses, info, talk etc across large distances with people he's had a "deep" kiss with. Except every time he wants to use it, he has to kiss them. The author only uses like 3 of the heroines as an example for this, and afterwards every time he uses Connection, the kissing and the heroines' reactions to getting kissed are done offscreen. So essentially no on-screen romance.
There are 8 harem members so far, with a couple of them having fun attributes like one of them being a shapeshifting unicorn, or a tsundere all-purpose ancient automaton maid (that was clearly made by a Japanese person).

As a side note, Lyle himself isn't interested in a harem to begin with and only wants to be with Novem. Except Novem's the one pushing for him to have a harem and makes it happen and it's gotten to a point where he more or less has to accept them all, but hasn't given much thought to it.

Spoiler for Interesting development:

One of the more interesting developments with Lyle and his harem is that at one point in the story, his harem split into factions because of a kind of? manipulative heroine and the party atmosphere becomes tense. So Mister Lyle (see the Fantasy spoiler) uses his Connection skill to take his harem to a training room (can't actually get hurt) inside his Jewel where he has them just kill each other to get the hard feelings out of the way already. He doesn't actually watch them do this since they would be hesitant with him watching, so he just casually drinks tea while they do this. According to his ancestors, it was extremely brutal, but they all felt refreshed afterwards save for one.

Spoiler for Fantasy world and game elements:

It's a fantasy world where being able to use magic means the person has noble blood, seeing as magic is more or less monopolized by them, though not always the case with fallen noble houses and whatnot.

To note, the world does have a level up system, but there's no stat screen or anything like that. The people refer to level ups as Growths, and they're identified by a person becoming very worn out for a long time for seemingly no reason, and then go into a state where they're essentially hyperactive and really happy. This is a major cause of embarrassment for most characters, especially Lyle who's level ups are fairly extreme in every regard. His ancestors begin to call Lyle after his level ups "Mister Lyle" and hold Best Lyle Awards for the stupid things he does during them. Lyle's leveled up 4 times total in the story, as he generally requires more experience than most people even with a skill that increases experience gained.

Everyone apparently has one skill given to them by the gods, and these skills have 3 tiers. Not everyone awakens to their skills, but they're divided into Melee, Ranged, and Support skills. Lyle and his ancestors all have support skills.

Spoiler for Plot spoilers:

The plot goes from Lyle just trying to manage a solo life as an adventurer to recently challenging kingdoms, and hinted to eventually challenge some of the women that people probably revere as goddesses. Lyle's goal is to beat Celes and to do so in a way where he won't be politically responsible for all the damage she's caused, being a male family member.
The story has some emotional-ish moments to me as well. Those parts for me are when he parts with an ancestor inside the Jewel. Once Lyle masters the 3 tiers of an ancestor's skill, that ancestor disappears and is replaced by a weapon that symbolizes them (that Lyle can use in battle). Currently 3 of the ancestors have vanished.

Spoiler for Antagonist / Goddesses:

The antagonist of the story is Lyle's little sister, Celes. She has the ability to mesmerize most people who see her, with women sometimes showing resistance to this. She's immensely strong and very whimsical and in the current story, is taking over the protagonist's home country that he has fled from to gather forces to stop her. She, like Lyle, has a Jewel with a personality in it, but only one in it called Septem. Everything about Septem is still relatively unknown except that she was likely the woman who destroyed the country 300 years ago.

Now here's the fun part, granted some of this is my interpretation. Septem is likely one of the revered 9 gods (7 goddesses, 2 evil gods), and apparently there's a 0 goddesses as well. They apparently are named after the Latin numbers 0-9, with Septem, Octo, and Novem appearing in story so far. But wait, Novem is Lyle's childhood friend, you say? I'm glad you noticed! Novem is a big part of the harem's discord as she keeps a lot of secrets, and for most of the story she was hiding her actual abilities (and still is to an extent, it seems).
She's extremely loyal to Lyle and proves it time and time again but often shows suspicious behavior. Throughout the story, it's hinted that she has the memories and personality of one of the women that people revere as goddesses (but it's hinted she herself is sad at being deemed one), is referred to as a traitor to humanity by Octo (Octo refers to themselves as the 10 traitors to humanity or something like that. All women, mind you.), and she clearly knows Septem. Novem herself never wants to elaborate on any of this and Lyle doesn't make her.
She generally keeps Lyle in the dark of a lot of things, like how she had a promise with Celes to not harm Lyle, how an estate they bought was haunted and had a room researching immortality (that she disposed of), or how she secretly met with her brother to get family heirloom staff, hiding her actual abilities, etc. Lyle himself doesn't care because he knows she's loyal as fuck, but it annoys another particular harem member quite a bit.
Novem's entire family has supported the Walt family ever since the founder, and have been extremely loyal for unknown reasons. It's mentioned in story that they're known for being loyal to the Walt family instead of the crown, and have had numerous chances to take over the Volt family but have never tried.

Kind of but not really. It's working its way there in the current chapters.

Eventually, Septem says her time to teach Lyle is up and she disappears. And in her place to teach Lyle is Lyle himself—the portion of the memories Celes sealed from 10-year-old Lyle. Note that this personality is apparently the 'closest' to the original Lyle, but consisting of only sealed memories to make his personality out of, it means he isn't the actual 10-year-old Lyle. Also, should note that current Lyle, Lyle after leveling up, and the Lyle of 10 years ago all have different name spellings. It's basically like Lyle, Mr. Lyle (Literally Lyle-SAN), and LYLE. That kind of different spelling. Basically a jumble of personalities with none of them being 'the original' one.

This Lyle's personality is completely different from the present Lyle. He's open about his perversion (granted Lyle, as of the current chapter, has shown sexual interest like a whole once outside of his Level Ups) and is fairly cocky and arrogant. Like he enjoys abusing his childish looks to get away with flipping skirts and whatnot. And to top it off, he has a similar presence to Celes but present Lyle considers his movements to even exceed Celes'. The only thing he admits current Lyle is better at him at is attracting women. Apparently Novem used to be very cold to past Lyle, which isn't very surprising since he's like Celes and somewhat of a major asshole. Current Lyle and Past Lyle both hate each other. I'm actually curious why Novem likes Lyle as much as she does now.

Now for why Celes did what she did. Young Lyle readily admits that Celes seems to have always detested him for some reason, but young Lyle liked his family and hoped to get along with her one day. But one day she catches young Lyle, the monster that he is, off guard. She had found the 'perfected' Jewel made by someone called Agrissa (if you recall, Septem made the original 'inferior' skill Gems and Jewels) that taught her much like current Lyle and his ancestors. Agrissa clearly influenced her decision (and ability to do it) to some extent, but it's unknown why Celes hated young Lyle so much in the first place. It's mentioned that skills people awaken to are based on the person's strong desires, and Celes' skills all involved around screwing over Lyle and stealing from him. So it's likely she was extremely envious of Lyle.

Regardless, current Celes is clearly drunk on power, but when Novem calls Celes "Septem," Celes clearly states that she's still Celes. I honestly got confused on what's going with Celes' Jewel. It was made by Agrissa, but apparently has a portion of Septem's personality or something, or housed Agrissa with some Septem memories, or I don't even know. I got confused and should probably reread the portions involving Agrissa.

It's even more amusing because Lyle himself has been becoming more and more like his ancestors to the point where even Damien said Lyle can trick people with a beaming smile on his face. He used to be so innocent and pure at the start, too...

Then there was chapter-end skit where Miranda said she was perfectly fine acting as Lyle's preferred woman type for life, and was confident she'd never get found out despite clearly being an evil web-laying spider woman. Mileia's genes are scary, because she clearly did just that with the Sixth (her brother).

As a random note, another of the author's works is apparently getting published. It's called 脇役勇者は光り輝く (The Supporting Hero Shines Bright). I haven't read it yet because before he announced it, it hadn't received an update for 2 and a half years, so I kinda assumed it was dead. He kinda hyped it up a little before the reveal and everyone was surprised it wasn't Sevens.

Lyle's defense of Beim went very well, but having done so in a way that eliminated Beim gaining any profit, he gained a lot of enemies. Which was entirely the point, so he's happy. He also gained a few trader allies who funded his campaign.

Lyle wins over two countries that have been at odds forever and adds them to his alliance, bringing him up to four countries. He restored power to the puppet rulers of both countries (both women with skills that give them wide area of attack magic, which Lyle's team was currently lacking. They've been slightly mentioned a few volumes before this.) He was trying to just befriend them, but he leveled up at exactly the wrong time and Mr. Lyle immediately added both the harem. Novem and Miranda fight again during this process. They're both extremely scary.

The Fourth finished teaching Lyle the final tier of his skill and disappeared in another emotional moment. Lyle handled the fourth moving on the best so far, but was still considerably sad. It doesn't actually ever say what weapon appears in the Fourth's place, but it's probably a dagger(s).

Past Lyle may not be as much of a jerk-ass as he's trying to make Lyle believe he is, and Novem may be just a slight wee bit insane. Mr. Lyle also teaches his harem about the ancestors in his jewel, but the ancestors refuse to meet any of them aside from Mileia meeting and teaching Miranda and Shannon, her great granddaughters. He also promises to make his harem beat up Young Lyle in mini-skirts and garter belts. Yeah.

Lyle clears out an abandoned fortress that turned into a monster dungeon and begins planning to do some construction there.

And the current arc is Beim (the second most influential country in the story so far) getting tired of Lyle's shit and trying to eliminate him (and his allied merchants) to curry favor with Celes and the more influential merchants. They gave him a request to look into a rumor about a queen promising to make the person who rescues her a king. Lyle's going to use this chance to ruin Beim, the nice guy that he is. The woman-brainwashing adventurer had taken her captive in order to brainwash her (she also let herself get captured because she wants to be rescued or some shit, she's kind of a weirdo) but she's too mentally strong for that.
Lyle takes the only men he knows that will help him to go deal with that, while Novem's team gets left behind and is stuck dealing with Beim.

So Lyle gets to the captured queen's country where there's first-rate adventurers planning an ambush, so he just avoids them and goes to rescue to the queen and deal with the brainwashing guy.
Novem's side doesn't appear to be going as favorably, but they also don't seem to be planning to actually win. May (his flying bicorn girl) is seemingly getting beat up by a belligerent adventurer woman who can go werewolf mode who's been waiting for a chance to fight either May or Lyle forever. We don't know what Novem and friends are up to yet, but many valkyries get taken out and captured by the attacking adventurers and mercenaries. Which is probably a dumb idea, since Monica showed that as long as they have mana, they can probably just regenerate.

The side story about an adventurer who started at odds with Lyle but eventually got over it finally seems to be reaching its climax at well.

This is like two volumes' worth, extreme simplified edition.

I'm more than happy to accept the idea of omake chapter where 14 ancestors showed up instead of 7, the wives being much more worst than the husbands XD

That innocent part of Lyle that become a gap and make Mr.Lyle shines even bright ^_^

It gave me goosebumps when Miranda said that. Meanwhile Shannon is just... Shannon, she still doesn't contribute real things yet to the party, aside from being a "clown with extraordinary talent but generally useless". I feel like that maybe if she level up, her Milea gene will activated~

Three best quirky things about this story:
- the Worth(?) family, truly teaches you how to be a noble aristocrat, in fun way.
- fever time, or high tension after leveling up, where everyone pile up black histories to tell to the next generations.
- Mr. Lyle for being my hero, he is the true protagonist of this story that saves my day everytime he appears.

And then, Mr. Tres, we love you for the contribution you have given Lyle these past chapters... we wish you to survive and live well.

Latest chapter heavily hinted that it's heading in that direction. Beim was going on about how due to a good deal of their veteran dungeon adventurers either died or joined Lyle, they're hard pressed to manage the Beim dungeon now.

And since Lyle's going to turn Beim into a sea of blood, that hard pressed to manage is going to turn into impossible, meaning Lyle will probably personally either go manage the dungeon, or completely clear it and just be rid of it...meaning he gets to say hi to Octo who he's literally just been intentionally ignoring. It's hard to tell how many goddess descendants Lyle has in his harem now, since the only confirmed ones are the goddesses representing 0, 3, 4, and 9. And we don't even know which one 4 is. On the bright side, once he inevitably gets Octo, he'll have the complete set of all the "evil" goddesses. Yay?

Granted Unus, Duo, and Quinque are all supposed to be bad news, and Sex was apparently killed by Novem (meaning no Sex descendants probably, but who knows), so the new 3 country rulers probably aren't any of them.

And Lyle done fucked up in the latest chapter.

The three country ruler women were literally having an extreme catfight over him with their troops nearby while Miranda gleefully watched from the sidelines earlier in the chapter, and by the end of the chapter he has the trader girl help him aggravate her father by having her act like she's pregnant. The ancestors gave him 0 points for that, but that's minus point shit right there. He's just asking to get stabbed from behind.

Even a few chapters ago Lyle admitted that offscreen—where the generic harem shit happens—his harem apparently has already been fighting over who gets to have Lyle's "first" (and meaning they probably get to be the legal wife). So that's going to come back to bite him in the ass pretty hard. Only Mr. Lyle can salvage this.

It's also nice that Lyle forced a harem on someone just so he could have a friend with the same worries as him.
