Being mentally older in a fantasy world doesn't necessarily translate its equivalent to the modern world.

Yeah, as the guys above me said, Kirito is 1 year younger than Asuna. It was said near the end of Volume 1 that Kirito was 15 and Asuna was 16. And currently, I believe its been like a year or a year and a half and Asuna was said to be 18 (I believe), which would make Kirito 17.

So I read "Aria In the Starless Night" after watching episode 2 and I have a quick question for novel readers about Asuna's character build; does she ever use any other sword skill besides <Linear> later on?

Yes she does. She learns all the high level rapier skills later on, but they never show how IIRC. Just implied since she becomes the 2nd head of the strongest guild in the game, the <<Knights of Blood>>

If SAO wasn't a life or death situation I would be pretty surprised at how Asuna went from complete noob who couldn't even see her party member's names to one of the best players in the game.

But I guess continuing this discussion would be better in the Asuna thread though

She was playing for two years so it's understandable.

I went from lowest ranked Mass Effect 3 player in Malaysia to number 651 out of 10,000 players in 3 weeks, playing for less than 6 hours each weekend. I'm not surprised at Asuna's progress at all.

Only in terms of named characters that were introduced.

During the Lizbeth side-story, it was clearly mentioned that there are a small number (<=10) of known clearers who are stronger than Asuna.

This of course, excludes unknowns like Kirito and Laughing Coffin members who's strength/accomplishments are not known to the more general SAO population.
