This was a cute episode. Akane is kawaii. Judging by the way red haired bishoujos are being treated in recent times, I really hope nothing happens to her. I'll seriously flip here if her hair ends up getting cut short. I've had enough of this nonsense. I can't handle anymore of this. First Yona, then Shirayuki... Akane-chan, don't let anyone cut your hair and don't even consider cutting it short. This hair cutting business is just too much for me to handle

That was okay but I thought way too much happened at once in the first episode. Just guessing but I bet the season will focus on individual character story soon with the family members seeing each of them have a different power.
Akane is obviously the most prominent member of the family based on storytelling so expecting to see a lot more of her each episode.

Ep 01
You know ... I thought it was rather light hearted and charming, and also had a lot of potential - but as odd as it sounds potential to go either way. It seems to be a good mix of oddness and charm to it in its setting and characters, but interestingly at the moment (still quite early) the weakness is the main character's (although perhaps only main character of this episode?) shyness oft-recycled for silly, unfunny semi-ecchi humor. Without that recycling the series would be a bit better, I think. This is not Shakespeare, and it has some nice moments in it, though. By the way, the singer of the ED reminded me of the same voice that sang the first ED of season two of Yama no Susume. Anyone else think so? Anyway, will definitely give future eps a try.

Not my cup of tea. The humor was so-so and everything felt so all over the place. But what i found really grating is Akane. Her constant embarassments and squealish persona made me constantly facepalm. And the panties joke? No thanks. Don't wear skirt if you feel so bothered by it then. Just too bad that she's the main character and will be the main focus of the series.

The first episode was all over the place, but for me, that made it much more interesting than any one element alone would have been.
I mean, I don't recall ever seeing fantasy elements and conventional modern school life/SoL elements mashed together quite so completely as we saw here, with a nice sprinkling of Reality TV thrown in for good measure. It makes Dandelion stand out more in my mind, and it also oddly makes it have greater verisimilitude for me. I mean, this blend of royal superpowers with high school life, and this blend of monarchy with democracy, and this blend of royal family with conventional Japanese family living, is truly bizarre. But everybody - the royal family and the rest of the populace - just rolls with it. It's normal to them, and I can easily tell that, which makes it easier to buy into this setting. So the result is a very fun show. I also find the main family well-balanced in general - 6 female siblings to 3 male siblings is a decent ratio, and there's a good array of differing personalities and character designs and powers here. One important aspect that comes across well is that this is a tight family that loves each other and cares about each other. It's nice to see the kids be on such good terms with each other given the contest to become the next King. I agree with Myssa Rei that the family interactions are the glue that holds everything together, and makes it a mostly worthwhile watch. I get Flower's complaints on the semi-ecchi humor, but I'm fine with it as long as they don't overplay it. The one thing I'm iffy about is revealing all of the siblings' super powers in the first episode. Part of me thinks they might have been better off more gradually revealing these powers to build up greater viewer anticipation in the first few episodes. Still, having those powers all revealed at once did make for a very fun scene, and I'm looking forward to Episode 2.

Is this going to follow the format of one episode focusing on each sibling, with Akane as a sort of running Greek chorus?
I thought the "poll" results were pretty funny. Clearly the voters of this kingdom are otaku.

All the siblings are pretty involved with each other, though the more thematic ones would be like Misaki and Haruka or Kanade and Shuu. Other characters outside of the family should get their focus, too. But considering this studio's track record, I have no idea how they're going to handle the source material since this first episode was pretty loosely based on the first chapter and even had some content from volume 3 that's coming out in a month.

Spoiler:
As for Studio IMS... could it be because this series' creator happened to be the Twintail's illustrator? This is a fun series that I would expect from a "non-traditional" Kirara series. Will pick up.

Episode 1
Well, this was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Interesting premise, solid pacing, gradual world building, and cookie cutter characters with extraordinary powers. It's like The Truman Show and Tiger and Bunny made love one night and this is what you ended up with. I could do without the almost fanservice, but it's a fun one nonetheless.

We don't know that yet. We have six sisters and 3 brothers plus some non related extras. You can make of it two harems or one reverse.
Well, I doubt either will happen though. PS: From some reason I couldn't help but whenever I saw king I remembered Mao from Hataraku. Maa it's probably just me lol.

These "obscure examples" are things that can fitted under single word label: the precedent. And I don't understand what exactly you trying prove as I myself said that harems (of either type) are unlikely.
Anyway there is no rule of that kind type only habit.

I don't like the way Akane's gravity power works.
Kat from Gravity Rush can manipulate gravity. She can fly too, because her manipulation of gravity lets her "fall" toward any point on the horizon. It doesn't seem like Akane's power is working like that. If it did, she'd be at school in no time flat. |
