Wow, lots of original content

Spoiler:

Especially the inclusion of West Wind Brigade members.
They have their own manga series, it's nice to see them animated and speaking!

Slash & his PK gang are anime original, and they're doing a great job as side-characters too.
And even a surprise appearance of Rudie at the end.

A lot of explanations and foreshadowing that weren't in the novels or the manga added as well, perhaps to make things more clear for the younger audiences.

he wants to buy as many of those Exp Potions given to the low level players as possible, hoarding them and establishing a monopoly, and THEN proceed to give them out for free, making the price drop and ruining financially the guilds that sell them.

Getting money by selling food huh, could sound like a plan from Pinky and The Brain at first but it's the perfect idea in these circumstances.
Since Shiroe want to gain money even faster I guess he is going to start a chain or buy every restaurant of the city.

It's the second episode in a row talking about buying buildings, and now we know they all can be bought. If it's really ANY building I think there is a very vicious one available . If it's that Shiroe is really .
It would also explain the lot of exposition on the buildings settings we got today.

I'm really starting to want to read the LN, but I'll try to wait a bit more because it's also fun to speculate on things.

1. In Mamareverse, spectacles = evil to the core XD
2. In Mamareverse, Responsibility = Work, WORK, WORK and EVEN MORE WORK. Especially paperwork =D)

It's a nice surprise to see Dolce, Kawara and Izumi, not just appearing in this episode but with lines too. Hope Nazu-nee would appear in the near future too =3.

Btw, the scene where Naotsugu visited Marielle with sandwiches is taken from HML with alterations

Novel-knowledge aside, I don't think Shiroe would be able to be able to establish a monopoly over a commodity that he has no direct contact with. The source of the Potions, aka the newbies, would still be under Hamelin's thumb. Unless Shiroe takes direct control over them (which ofc would settle the petty objective), the monopoly, and ultimately control over the situation, would still remain with Hamelin.

If the price drops, all Hamelin needs to do is to stop providing them. The effect of Potions don't last forever, that's why their users need a constant supply, which translate to a steady flow of income for Hamelin. Even if they initiate a Potion embargo (hope the use of this term is correct here ), they could still live off whatever loot they get from hunts. Seen from their position, the most important thing is that they retain control over their newbies, their golden goose, literally.

Shiroe OTOH wouldn't achieve much once his stock runs out; in the worst case, Hamelin could extend the embargo and direct the complaints and anger from their customers towards Shiroe, citing him as the reason for holding back their goods. No matter how respected he is among the senior players, in Akiba's current atmosphere things could get hot, not just for him and his guild, but also for the Crescent Moon Alliance who would be seen as his accomplices.

And with all the foreshadowing and exposition in this episode and some tidbits from last one, it's pretty hard not to guess correctly what's Shiroe's plan.

The "Akatsuki-chan, where do you think you're going~♥" scene in the Alliance's corridor is brilliant in this aspect . Not only does it help fill new viewers on what happens when you set limits and restrictions in your zone, it also does it in a way filled with fun and good cheer =D

Come to think of it... That building where Shiroe and Nyanta were first shown while waiting for Souji, isn't that their future-to-be guild building? =D

on numbers, of course. My idea was that Shiroe could have made a rough calculation that, without the money influx from the potions, the guild would run out of money before he runs out of 5 millions worth of potions. Or he would pull off some other kind of speculation to force them to sell their buildings or give him their members (slaves) to settle their debts. In practice, anything that could control the market and make the Exp potion price bubble and then burst would be hard on them - even if in the long run it's as you say, if they can hold on long enough they come out on top. But one wouldn't expect such a guild to be built upon bonds of trust, so it's fair to think that at the first sign of hardships/reduced income many mice would flee the sinking ship. As soon as Log Horizon acquires more power and influence than these fuckers, Shiro can do whatever he pleases, free the slaves and give the ringleaders the boot.But yeah, you absolutely have a point, it all depends on how huge the market (and the slice of income of the slavers coming from it) is.

Magnificent episode. Shiroe really looks like an ominous villain when he stands at one of the building and oversee the production. He is really darker than black. The episode shown lots of hints on what to happen. So it will probably lessen the surprise and its good to see WWB and souji.

Ehh, probably not. It's hard to use in a burger as the meat would overwhelem the flavor of everything else in the burger, but you could still make a proper steak out of it.
