i don't have a favorit genera.
i have a favorite type. - 50 episodes or less - fast figting but no fatality crap. - little plot. - character development quick but deep. - shiny. (usually the kind of colors reseved for young girl animes) - very fast paced - great catchy music. especially the hero theme in the end of a battle. - funny romance senes, or freindship-romance themes. no "I LOVE YOU" crap. - colorful characters. - happy ending - if the anime has generals. have a lot of them. - many characters with very different pasts. |

I used to think that I hated Mecha, but then I realised that they are actually one of my favourite genres.
"The Big O" was one of the first anime series' that I really got into. Then I thought that I would try out "Gun X Sword", then I figured out that it was a mecha. Gun X Sword" is now one of my most favourite anime series' ever, as is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I used to always tell myself that mecha was boring, although I do not know why as I loved them. I noticed this when I looked at my anime collection and noticed how many of them were in fact mecha, and also my favourites. End Statement: I adore mecha anime. |

Three years ago I'd answer Comedy, but nowadays it's not the genre that makes me chose an anime to watch.
I get some info about any anime that is airing and if i like i get to watch, so it's a trial and error method and sometimes i choose weak series that i drop or refuse some that i would like (like Macross Frontier, which is now one of my favorite ). But having to chose (and i don't like chose all of them) the three favorite genre are: Comedy, Shonen and Fantasy. |

i have no genre preference. I do have...
What Digital Boy likes in Anime - Great characters. What matters isn't development or depth, just genuine greatness of character. My favorites when it comes to male characters are the extremely confident fighters and badasses of unmatched skill. My favorite female characters are either girls who stand strong despite past trauma, extremely cool girls (preferentially smokers), girls with children, and shy, cute girls. Best Characters: See here. - Good writing. The story in anime does NOT matter. Characters and writing can make an anime great even if the plot is cliche as all hell (as slice of life has taught us.) Best Writing: Black Lagoon, Hatenkou Yuugi, Baccano!, ef ~a tale of memories~, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Red Garden, Kure-nai, Spice and Wolf, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Pure badassery. I'm a huge fan of action shows, and I can damn well appreciate a well-directed fight scene. Style, character interaction, and setting are all major factors, and great animation is always a plus. I also like to see plenty of blood. Best Badassery: Baccano!, Stranger -Mukoh Hadan-, Spriggan, Black Lagoon, Samurai Champloo, Blood the Last Vampire - Good directing. I'm a hawk for good directing, especially since I intend to be a director myself. My favorite director by far is Akiyuki Shinbo. Best Directing: The SoulTaker, ef ~a tale of memories~, Earth Maiden Arjuna, Serial Experiments Lain, FLCL, Hidamari Sketch, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Ouran High School Host Club, Petite Cosette, Red Garden, Kure-nai, Texhnolyze, s-CRY-ed, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Over-the-top. I like things that are epic, wild, and out of this world. GAINAX are the undisputed masters of over-the-top, so comparing others to them is unfair, but I'll give nods where due. Best Over-the-top: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, ef ~a tale of memories~, s-CRY-ed, Diebuster, Gankutsuou, Giant Robo, Mai-HiME, Read or Die, Revolutionary Girl Utena, The SoulTaker - Following your dreams. Ultimately, it's the most important thing in the world. Any show which celebrates following your dreams sits well with me. Best Dream Following: ef ~a tale of memories~, Eureka Seven, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Martian Successor Nadesico, Manabi Straight What Digital Boy HATES in Anime (occasional exceptions) - Politics, especially sci-fi and fantasy politics. The plot is my least favorite element of a show, and political shows tend to rely too heavily on it. - Tsundere. Fucking stupid. - Any time where characters call each other's names back and forth in excess of... lets say 3 times. - Getting dramatic before giving us a chance to care about the characters. This is a more uncommon mistake, but it's terribly annoying when what would be a moving scene were we to know the character a little more is throwaway thanks to underdevelopment. A lot of shows manage to work their way around it though. - Shows with no redeeming qualities - obvious, I know. Most fanservice and harem shows fall here because of my theory of 'i could be watching porn right now.' |

1 romance
2 shojo 3 comedy when i was little i use to watch anime just for the shojo, but as i got older i started to understand and develope the patience for romance based anime, and now they are my fav. its just so enjoyable to see two people go through obstacles and turns that connects them more and more, then it comes around the last episode and they become a couple... always gets me in the big scenes!

Above all, Mecha I would have to say is my favorite top genre.
But afterwards we're looking at a tie between Sci-Fi in general, Romance, Drama and Action. I absolutely hate shounen since it's all extremely pointless. The only Shounen anime Ive seen and not gone berserk over is... Nabari no Ou. |
