An important revelation was made this week, one can use own's memories as magic fuel. That should explain Chaika's missing memories. The hero from episode 2 did mention how Chaika should be dead, maybe she had a grave injury and used up her own memories to recover from it

I was sure we were not going to get this flashback. In the manga version it was at the beginning of the series, I didn't expect for it to be placed now.

The episode was a little boring to me in some parts, but at least we learn that you can use memories as magic fuel.

I was curious to see how they handled it, actually. I liked how the manga went into more detail about Toru's narrative about his childhood more, but the way it was written in this ep was unexpected and kinda interesting....

They have been giving hints about the Sky Fortress for a while now in previous eps ... I wonder if they are going to devote 2 or 3 eps to it?

On a different note I found myself continuing to grow fond of the Cavalier and his party members - they have slowly, slowly been trickled dialogue and have come to life / been fleshed out over time.

Hmm ... wonder if Red Chaika will pop up at the Sky Fortress too?

On the whole I enjoyed the ep and thought it was a good transition to the next arc.

Or use those remains in the coffin. They had been used as an inexhaustible source of magic fuel. I would have understood if Tooru is shopping for the latest issue of Jump magazine, but magic fuel?

You know, I had thought of both of these as well - Frederica seemed the most realistic option of the two. I wonder if magic beasts have some kind of limitation on the amount of magic they can output in general, and if there is a difference between using them inherently and hooking themselves up to a magic tech device in terms of ability to output to them?

The remains of Emperor Gaz could work, but for some reason I thought utilizing them might involve some sort of involved technical setup. Chaika obviously has some knowledge (she got the vehicle running after all) but maybe "hooking them up" is beyond her tech level at the moment?

Just a guess, of course.

I too wondered "Why don't they just use the remains?"

little Akari was cute, and even though she had next to no lines, loved her facial expressions.

Also, a gif of those water droplets sliding down adult akari's breast would be much appreciated.

You mean immoral. The power of Emperor Gaz is an inheritance to his children. Chaika, as one of his descendants, has a right to that power.

It is a popular theme in many fantasy stories that dead parents/mentors appear to provide aid to their children/proteges.

Now this is how I like my Hitsugi no Chaika episodes, packed with content. Chaika has been using spells quite a lot since the beginning so showing she had so refill her bullets was nice and also introduced an important plot point. Since magic fuel is not a particulary rare resource in general I hope she is not forced to use her memories again later.

Flashbacks were presented seamlessly and didn't feel disconnected from the current time at all. The one about Jasmine lost a bit of impact compared to the source but, again, better some changes than entire removal.

Preview shows even less than usual but Toru and Chaika infiltrating the very hyped Sky Fortress is something I can't wait to see.
