Rinka in depressed mode.
Azuma stuck on the island in the middle of nowhere. Guess he's not gonna go anywhere anytime soon. Rinka joined the others in detainment center. Things aren't looking good at all.. Flashbacks to the past were very interesting. At least they finally explained from where the fish came from. Still, that explanation of the origin of the fish was just unreal. Anyway... it was good to find out how it all began. The bad guy just doesn't seem as bad anymore...

Well at least they put forward the effort to make the Professor's insanity believable. Certainly went through enough that it isn't that surprising he'd go to extremes.
Although still needs to be put down. Turned his own kid basically into an assassin and will get untold amount of people hurt to hunt down an enemy he has no information on. And still not sure why Minami gets the untold hax teleporting ability. Unless they are stuck in some massive illusion that's pretty unbelievable. Props to the government, when they go overboard they go overboard. Also kind of love how the idealized image of Rinka that Kyotaro is using to drive himself is so reversed from reality. Rinka just wandering around like (though basically was) a homeless person until she was casually arrested.

Well they managed to the Professor sympathetic as I actually felt bad for him during his back story. Doesn't change the fact that he is going to far and needs to be stopped. His wife was a pretty cool woman I doubt she would be happy to learn her daughter is now a cold girl that will aid him in getting a massive amount of uninvolved people killed.
Now that Azuma got his resolve back it is time for Rinka to finally get her resolve back and learn how to do what she needs to do.

Felt a bit bad for the professor, doesn't change that he's insane, and its just dumb revenge. Especially when he's involving all sorts of innocent people that have nothing to do with his vendetta. Its not even a "espers are superior" thing, he's just pissed at the world for 'letting' his wife die, so he doesn't mind if anyone else experiences the same type of tragedy.
Its expected, but its so sneaky that all the grown up esper characters on rinka's side are put out of commission so its up to the kids to solve everything.

The flashback was beyond needed, and helped make the Professor a more sympathetic character, but... that doesn't help the fact that said flashback was boring and didn't help move the story along at all.
When you get a bombshell of the main character losing her powers, the logical thing to do is follow up on that, not go off on a different subplot's tangent and barely move the main character. So she was captured... and? Show us something more! |

T'was a good episode if you ask me. It may be a disappointing adaptation but it's still pretty good whenever Rinka & Kyoutarou are on screen. In fact, the main reason why this is a disappointing adaptation in the 1st place is because much of their interactions were cut out.

After last week's disappointing exposition I read a little bit of the manga to see if anything of importance would come from Rinka's arrest. And it did. And they cut it from the anime. What the hell. They completely cut out her training arc in the prison that showed not just her resolve, but why she's stronger now and able to fight with her eyes closed.
It also gave the dandy boxer characterization and made him a likeable character instead of some random who just happened to come along and just happened to save the day. It also had Roshi training before they arrived, so him going from not walking to flying kicks all over the place made more sense. This exclusion I feel kind of ruins this entire portion of the arc, and I'd recommend people go read those chapters. |

At least it's believable that Rinka was in top form with all the training she got in. Although still somewhat silly that without any abilities she's jumping from obliterated buses and running down plants. But at least made for some decent action. No surprise about the upcoming showdown, though here's hoping they make the most of it. And I suppose of help will be the way weaker teleporting Azuma.

Sucks some development got cut, but you just have to take those lumps with manga adaptation.
I didn't know about cut material, but I felt something was off. Especially with how Azuma constructed a raft, and gathered enough food for his journey, hinting that a certain amount of time has passed since last episode. This also explains how all these espers we saw during the school attack have all these weird elaborate gadgets on them now. That being said, the action this episode really grabbed me. If they have to make cuts, at least make the action parts exciting, which it was for me. This is probably my favorite action anime for this season. Have to give the director or whoever responsible a hand for this. Really enjoyed watching depowered Rinka kick some serious ass. lol @ the mind controlling bad esper ripping off Code Geass. Since there's been many other seasons where the adaptation just left me feel awkward like Tokyo Ghoul or Mahouka.

This was another episode that was supposed to be full of thrill & excitement, yet due to the piss-poor execution it came off as on of the weaker ones. It felt almost cartoonish tbh and also, is it just me or are is the sound severely lacking? I mean, gunshots, explosions, kicks, punches and other powers, etc all seem to lack impact. Maybe it’s a nitpick but along with the lackluster animation, it contributes to making the action scenes less exciting…But IMO, the biggest problem has always been what the anime decided to do with Kyouratou, which is that he feels so uninvolved in the entire second half of the story. His relationship & interactions with Rinka were something the anime could’ve EASILY gotten right, no matter the lack of time & budged it had and it would’ve been a big + to the show but alas, stupid decisions are stupid.
All the complaints aside, the fact that I find Rinka so awesome and cheer on her & Kyoutarou makes me still find the show somewhat enjoyable. Oh well, I’ll be free to read the manga after next week anyway where I’ll get all my Rinka & Kyoutarou moments, along with seeing this story properly executed in it's entirety. |

It wasn't a terrible show but just felt lackluster in terms of execution. I liked the fight scenes coordinated with the OST though for the finale especially in regards with Minami vs. Rinka for their rematch.
Oh and Azuma made it back as well. Still, I can't say I enjoyed this show as much I had hoped for.

Wasn't this supposed to be 2 cours? Oh well.
This episode was pretty lackluster. There wasn't any feeling (to me at least) behind any scene, and it just played out like they wanted to show off as much as possible in the last episode. The animation was lazy, especially in the "fights", and the soundtrack didn't seem to be properly applied to the scenes. Overall, horrible direction in this episode. |

Tokyo ESP, more like Tokyo NTR, am I rite?
I enjoyed this series run this season. It certainly did its job in making me interested in picking up the manga, and checking out Ga-Rei. The OST was good, I liked the fight scenes. Conclusion felt a bit of a letdown though. Maybe cause I didn't care at all for the initial Boss this season, I never felt any sympathy towards him, especially after his background episode, since his execution for his revenge is just being a jerk. Minami was kind of weak character wise as well, she just felt like way too much of a puppet to her father. The talking bird addition to the team is funny. And also Kyotaro showing up in a fresh suit. I imagine them arriving at the city, and instead of going straight to the scene, Kyotaro makes a pitstop at his apartment for the suit so he can enter in style. The new attack the invisible thief got was random, and not sure how it makes sense.
