Is it appropriate?
I've heard a lot of good things about Welcome to the NHK, but I'm wondering about the content in it. What would it be rated? PG-13 or R? It's not that I can't stomach a lot of things, I just have overly explicit sexual content and violence just for shock value.
If you could tell me that would be great! Thanks a lot! |

Duno, I saw nothing special in it except the fact that MC kept looking at porn though we only got small, user friendly glimpse.
There is no violence either, just several psychological problems. PG-13 suits it perfectly. Rating it higher is a joke. Unless your nerve system is weak and you get easily influenced and even then I can't see it getting rating R especially if you compare is to psychological horror Elfen Lied.

Well, iirc Funimation rated it 17+ (I don't know if it even got a rating in Japan). There is nudity, and some potentially disturbing topics (2D>3D, suicide) are addressed.
But overall is a rather mature series, there's no "shock value" content past what I wrote above. No random blood splurts or seeing people suffer violent deaths, nor any hentai (and not much ecchi, not enough that I'd call it an ecchi show). If you are all around mild mannered, the show may make you cringe a little at times. But it handles all of its bite maturely, so I think it would be okay for you. |

It depends on how mature the viewer is. Depression, suicide, paranoia, betrayal, abuse are not exactly themes that are appropriate for most kids of this era. Rating systems are a joke, in between, what these guys do is say 18+ if there is sex on screen (however it is depicted), and 12+ if someone is killed on screen.
