I swear. Why don't they just release the movie? With all these TV spots and trailers we pretty much have an idea on what happens throughout the whole movie

Spoiler:

Well, they're being much more heroic than Man of Steel at least.

Edit:

I'll leave this here.

Well, anime rule : a robot with speed 8 and focus melee type weapon>>>> it must have paper like armor!!!

Despite that, it still manage to kill 3 Kaiju, I would say that's pretty impressive for a first generation Jaeger.

Catching the Kaiju by surprise might have something to do with it. After the first several battle they might adapt a little and then the Mark Is start being destroyed.

At least that is a theory.

A clip of the movie from The Late Show. No spoilers. Just Pentecoast putting Raleigh Beckett in his place.

That's good to hear. Man of Steel actions scenes just leave you feeling a bit drained after watching them. So hearing Pacific Rim will be different is a welcome sign.

So this is a live action movie that pays homage to anime? Does it pay homage to any specific animes, as well?

Del Toro did directly mention Tetsujin 28-go in a featurette video, but that's the only one I remember specifically. Aside from that, I suppose you can start citing the classics such as Mazinger Z (which popularized the rocket punch), Gaiking and a few more recent and prominent ones like Evangelion (pilots breathing oxygenated fluid, who must be in a certain state of synchronicity to move their mecha, etc).

Somebody posted Pacific Rim's "special thanks" a couple pages back, so you can just start Googling the names you'll find therein. You'll note the presence of anime directors like Hideaki Anno, as well as people associated with kaiju movies/series.

That Special Thanks page was officially discredited as "inaccurate" by Del Toro himself though.

Hopefully this doesn't affect the new Godzilla movie.

Godzilla is a big name. Large draw. Shouldn't be a problem.

Generally speaking with the marketing that's following this movie it's really weak. I know some people said they saw trailers and such but for the past few months I haven't seen any trailer at all for Pacific Rim.

Granted with a PG rating it should be easy for teenagers (boys no doubt) to run in droves to see an action-packed movie like this one. The nerds and geeks such as ourselves no doubt will go in to see it too.

There's also a possibility that it'll make a killing overseas (China assuming there's no issues with censoring would be a big factor)
