Fantastic buildup episode, and in a very related note, I'm glad the story focused more on Yuri at the end and him earning the right to fight Joe, at least from his perspective. Respect all around.
Seeing Aragaki again and that Nanbu flashback also worked great in creating the sensation that it's been a long ride, and now it all comes down to this. This is going to be a good one. Don't know, I can't get the ED out od my head, sounds like such a perfect moment-of-truth kind of tune from what I can make of it. That said, this last rap was great, and the best possible way to create buildup for the match. |

OK...so this was a better place to put in a rap. Better than the previous week's episode. I'm definitely glad Yukiko went against what she told her brother and Yuri, and she went the extra mile to return Joe's ID card and deliver the most awesome news...and that's where we get that impressive giddy grin on Joe's face!
The hype is real! |

Woah, just woah, the final battle more that a war, was a dance, two men wanting to proved when we dance with death who is the best....Poor Yuri, his body was at the limit of his stress and ended in wheelchair..and could have been worse.
Yukiko selling the gear is a tool, the true weapon is the wearer was something. Well, The happy ending suprise me and was fitting, the nobody become someone and now is someone. 10/10 the anime of the season and frontrunner anime of the year. |

Well that was one hell of a fight, and I have to admit I was expecting the show would stick to the Ashita no Joe ending, but I was really glad we got a real happy ending with real respect between the characters.
It's been a great show. I'm no boxing fan but everything about this show just dragged you into its gritty world and made you really feel for the characters. This show is going to feature in so many 'best of year' articles come December. |

So all the cliffhangers and nobody died. The gearless match seemed a bit revolutionary considering we had quite good use of animators, people shouting for Joe for a change, among others. Probably not anime of the year for, but I really liked it.

I feel a bit cheated to be honest. All these catchlines implying somebody would die at the end of the series, yet nobody did. I'm not dissatisfied with the way it ended, but I expected something more dramatic than what we got. Nevertheless, it's definitely not a bad thing that they chose their own ending rather than copying Ashita no Joe's.
It was a really good series. It had a lot of expectations to live up to, and I think it succeeded for the most part. Of course, it never surpassed Ashita no Joe, but there was only so much they could do with so few episodes.

All that build up that someone would die and everyone comes out alive. I like happy endings, but a part of me feels that they shouldn't have hinted at someone dying so hard if that wasn't the case. The ending was still nice though and it's great to see all the characters happy.
Overall it was a great show. The old art style really helped the fights and world feel more gritty.

well if you put in perspective "yuri" died as a boxer" since now he is wheelchair and also joe looks like give up on his title since he achieved what he wanted which was beat yuri, somehow it was a "death" for them, at last for now then both of them for now are "dead" as boxers of course it's a metaphorical death.

A solid fight and show imo to the end.
I love underdog stories like this and even though I wasn't familiar with the franchise, it really had me glued to my seat from the first episode. Joe is a character that I can find relatable and really feels inspirational. Also really liked the dystopian setting of the show. It kinda reminded me of the old style Robocop. Oh and this series had some of the best music/OST of the year so far.
