That is true, but I don't think it made sense to set it up in that way in the first place. Defending the village and running it are two tasks that require rather different skill sets, and there are very few individuals who are exceptional in both. As proved by this thread =) It seems to me it would make more sense to officially split these two roles.

I also think relying on advisors to be the ones competent in most of the daily tasks of the village isn't that great a set-up either, since they are not the ones who will be publicly held responsible for their decisions. In addition, the kage seems to have semi-dictatorial power and can't be overruled. Of course, in konoha this set-up largely works benignly because its people are generally good-natured. That's the role konoha plays in the story. But it doesn't seem ideal in my view.

cmon people seriously a lot of shika neji kakashi going on...

when sandaime was killed elders of the konoha decided jiraiya to be the next hokage...
did you ever think of why? cuz other ninjas in town arent worthy enough to be hokage YET.every each one of them lacks something huge...yet jiraiya didnt accept cuz he said he is not the kind of persn and found tsunade to become godaime.

if tsunade dies jiraiya is the only choice and he wont fall back again cuz there is no any other option...nothing has changed since godaime is decided.

so period...next one to be hokage (if godaime dies in 5 years) is jiraiya...

maybe after 10-15 years other jounins can be tought of...

That is true but in this case "future Hokage" probably means atleast 10 years after Tsunade...and the most likely person to succeed Tsunade is Naruto...she acknowlegded that fact that he will be capable to become one..

I wouldn't put much stock into anything Naruto says. I like Kakashi, but there is no way he also has an over 200 IQ.

i think definately konohamaruga whatever hes called will be a future hokage cos of his hokage linage cos i thinks its been set up for him cos of his distinct individual character and i just he will end up being a powerul charcter now that hes lost sum of his relatives it will give him some grief to strive forward to become a powerful shinobi

but the prospect of naruto as hokage sitting side by side with the kazekage gaara discussing the chunnin exam would be awesome

I'm personally not so sure if we're ever even going to see Naruto become hokage. It's a setup for his character, not for the storyline. Not saying it won't happen (most likely will), but a lot of people seem to be taking it for granted.
