I'm not sure where all the Frieza hype came from in the first place. Ever since I found out he was to be the main villain in this movie, a part of me had trouble taking it seriously since I kept feeling like there should be no way in hell Frieza should ever stand a chance against Goku and Vegeta as they are now--even with his own shiny new form. So with that said, I honestly thought he fared far better than he should have. It's been a very long time since Goku defeated him afterall.
Since then and after all these years, Goku's unlocked SSJ2, 3, and now SSJG. And just like that, within a span of a few short months, Frieza almost closes the gap and not only unlocks his own new form, but a god form at that. In fact, we're basically told that had he trained just a little while longer with his new form, the outcome could've been more questionable. That's a pretty impressive boost IMO. That's basically Toriyama implying that despite Goku and Vegeta's seemingly limitless potential, Frieza's potential dwarfs even that. |

better than battle of god, a lot of great fighting with great animation, i particularly like whis fight owning both goku and vegeta
they didn't try to make all characters appear, good for spotlighting more earthling characters to fight the minions Frieza's golden form is a bit disappointment, not only lack of design creativity, the power up also not really drastic, maybe only a bit stronger than majin buu. Super Cyan God not looking too strong either, it seems the red SSJ God is stronger good thing frieza still alive, maybe next movie he will comeback along with Cell in Fukkatsu no C

Good movie. I like their attempt to at least explain the shift in power levels. (Gohan especially).
Now really to see how Super will handle and expand this arc. Maybe more spotlight to more characters and longer (but as animated as in the movie) fights. |

How can you possibly compare Shiny Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan God? We have absolutely no stick to compare them to being that both forms' power was only established through how well they were able to hold their own against their respective opponents... and we don't know anything about how Shiny Freeza's power compares to Beerus. And really, Shiny Freeza didn't give that much of a boost? He went from fighting a losing battle against regular Goku, to actually winning against Shiny Super Saiyan Goku for a while! I mean sure, his power ran out so quickly that it didn't really help him at all in the long run, but the powerup was way bigger than what you give it credit for.

Gosh, these films are like a childhood dream come true. And there was no need to sit through 5 hours of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
Spoiler for continued here:
A lot of the series and the older movies had these annoying habits of making Vegeta look like a complete bitch, and sure this is DBZ where Goku does mostly everything, I don't think you have to win fights to actually look good. Tien standing up to enemies literally hundreds or thousands of times stronger than him is a good example. So comes Battle of Gods, and Vegeta still sadly was fairly useless, but he managed to achieve his goal of passing Carrot for a few seconds-- just in SSJ2 hurting Beerus who just flicked SSJ3 Goku away. That just felt pretty good after all these years. Hopefully that doesn't give him more ideas of getting Bulma knocked around. And then he manages to get it in Resurrection F and finally reach the same level as Carrot, beating on the new Freeza. Also, the antagonist wins in Battle of Gods! Not too novel, but this is Dragon Ball so that was something. In F, Freeza also reestablished himelf as one of the strongest being of the universe, giving a reason for his title at least. By now, Freeza had become somewhat of a joke, and that filler stings. Any measure of power had to do with how badly you could shit all over Freeza; even the rather wimpy Kaioshin's like "I can oneshot Freeza" like it was anything special by then. It just feels bad that Goku had to go through all that emotional trauma but then they shit out two kids that would have solo'd the whole thing with ease. But granted, it's a nice twist that he was beaten so easily-- it really does play into his mistakes that he never learned from. He really shouldn't have rushed so fast. Granted, this is DB so dumb shit happened, such as god destroying rings, and Gohan. That really hurt. Oh man, what did they do to him? Oh well, at least he's not Yamcha. Poor dumb Yamcha. Also, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is a fucking stupid name, but oh well.

Well it was never said in the movie, thankfully... And at least in the manga-adaptation of Super they acknowledged what a terrible name it was and decided to change it to something else (though sadly it was still not "Shiny Super Saiyan").

That brings up another amusing part that I guess is something lost. A lot of the things are retroactively named.
Like I do believe when Gohan changed into Super Saiyan 2, they never actually referred to it as that, so what were people calling it until Goku implied it when he was showing the various forms to Buu?

An movie about the origin of the strength of the saiyans. Sounds promising. It will most likely focus on Yamoshi, the very first Super Saiyan who went on to become a legend that Toriyama mentioned in a recent interview.

Goku is in it after all, sounds like a lot of Sayians will be, the animation looks really nice but in my opinion it doesn't fit Dragon Ball Z but that's me.
Guess this will be the last of the anime for a while, did they ever explain why?
