Staff list

Director: Nobuhiro Kondo (Cardfight!! Vanguard GZ)
Series Composition: Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Battle Spirits)
Duel Composition: Masahiro Hikokubo
Character Design: Kazuko Tadano (Sailor Moon), Hiromi Matsushita (Sailor Moon, Crayon Shin-Chan)
Sound Director: Hiroshi Yamamoto (Jewelpet: Magical Charge)
Studio: Bridge (Mitsudomoe, Devil Survivor 2)

Quick game Rule update: You no longer have to summon Link monster first in order to use Synchro, Xyz and Fusion monsters. And you can summon them in Extra monster Zone too. Link and Pendulum still work like in previous rule set.

New type of duel: Rush duel. Use new type of card and entirely new rule set. (not above)

.............

My first impression is: I dislike this artstyle even more than Zexel's. It looks like a typical kid show on TV now. However, due to the change in studio and director, maybe the plot and characters will be better.

So now we have Opening and Ending out.
Opening:
"Nanananananana" by Saeki Yuusuke
YouTube
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Ending:
"Goha #7 Elementary School Song" by three main protagonists
YouTube
Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

And for missing credit above. Opening credits confirmed that Music for new series will be composed by Kawasaki Ryou. Who you may know for soundtracks for Fate/Grand Order: First Order and Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia. Now wonder what he will manage here.

Artwork is definitely simplified and made for attracting younger audiences to the game. The opening and ending are very catchy but they're not really that great imo. I'm getting Haro vibes from Gundam with that floating clock and an oppressive mega company overlooking everyone's social lives. What was up with the trade scene between two random players? It's like living in some state run country without any civil liberties, but the citizens don't bat too much of an eye to it.

On to the characters. Still too kiddy. Reminds me of how Naruto first started. The girl, rival, and Yuga all seem cool. I'm glad they didn't paint him to be some bumbling fool like when Naruto first got started. Yuga is not as badass as some of the other past MC's but I'll give him props for being a programmer/mechanic and tinkering on his duel disk. That gave me Yusei/Playmaker vibes a bit.

The duel itself looked glorious. All the artwork to showcase the cards and the monsters was spectacular. That BEWD looks something like one of the enemies in Bubble Bobble. It wasn't chibi, it wasn't toon, it wasn't anything like digimon, but it did look appropriate for this series. And of course, a 5 card comeback hand is very old school MC like. Instead of playing Coins from Heaven, Yuga devises an entirely new game mode/mechanic to mount a winning turn.

Now, I don't understand how/why everyone's duel disks changed? Is everyone now forced to play Rush Duels from here on out?

Not my favorite series start, but I'm still going to watch it. Just glad to have a YGO show to watch now.

I want a mature, less colorful Yugioh like the old GX and 5D's days.

Guess I'll have to wait and see if this is good or not.

They discredited Kazuki Takahashi name.
Is there possible a conspiracy behind that?

Most of this "a conspiracy" should be apparent on first sigh in new anime. Thing is that Takahashi was not directly involved in any YGO series since Zexal. Both ARC-V and VRAINS still at least carried Takahashi's visual legacy via several animators that worked on series since the beginning. But now with new studio, there is no longer anybody that knows how to replicate Takahashi's visual style in animation. And with last Takahashi's trademark gone, there is simply no longer reason to give him direct credit. Or that's what at least producers think, it seems.
Anyway, now we have Tadano and Matsushita for designs. So let's see what visual magic they do. Unfortunately so far seems pretty generic.

^It's not a matter of visual. He was credited because he is the inventor of the card game.

Not crediting him is like implying that the "Rush Duel" is a whole other game and that's it's not Yu-Gi-Oh anymore. Should have changed the title in that case.

It's a matter of Takahashi's involvement in the production of TV series. Until Zexal, Takahashi was directly involved in the productions of YGO animes. Providing original design for main characters and creating base premise for each individual series. After that, he no longer provided anything for neither ARC-V or VRAINS, but at least there was still base visual spirit kept by original animators. That's no longer case as we got a complete change of studio and from original animating staff, nobody remained. Some old animators confirmed this on their twitter. So yes, visual point truly plays role.

Also regarding rules of "Rush Duels". They are not so much different to call it a completely different game. It's a more little rehash of few game mechanics rather than a complete change of game core.

Too bad, you are going to have Kodomo Yu-Gi-Oh! and you will like it.

This is...kodomo anime, right? yes, Yu-Gi-Oh! as a kodomo anime.

Well, what I can say. I liked what I watched. A decent MC, a colorful cast that are actually elementary schoolers instead of high schoolers+ as we are accustomed so kids. Only that should tell you who is the target audience of this. The comedy is on point (though probably because it was pretty much non-existent last time). I need a pair more episodes for a good judgment but as a start it has been miles better that VRAINS. For it I'm willing to forgive the change in designs even if this aren't bad, only not very Yu-Gi-Oh!-esque.

Rush duel actually seems an entertaining mechanic unlike Entertainment Duels and whatever shit was with VRAINS before was dropped in the final arc. And oh man, it gives me the feels that we actually are back to tribute summon and simple effects, almost make me cry, the game as been getting more and more degenerate. In what age we live that Raigeki is considered weak for fucking real. At least let me enjoy a bit more before the rest of the summon methods return.

If I should judge purely on the first episode, I think, that content itself doesn't felt anything less shounen, than either of previous YGO series.

I don't really think so. Main cast are maybe elementary schoolers, but so far their presence doesn't felt anywhere near overwhelming to create feeling that I watching something targeted for kids. Overal direction, music, and action are still pretty much shounen like as before. Only what I can see is that stated age and some manners of main characters make them perfect for kids to identify with them, so series is a little more accessible for them, thanks to that. On the other hand, moderate and reasonable characterization mixed with a good dose of comedy, help that characters don't feel annoying or bratty to an older audience. Let's see if anime staff manage keep this balance info further episodes. But so far it gives me good vibe. In several things first episode reminded me first episode of ARC-V. So hopefully whole series will be just as good.

P. S.: I really hope, that the pre-opening sequence will be eventually elaborated somehow. The idea of duel mechas seems too good to be discarded on mere single dream sequence.

That explain why Zexal still have a soul, Arc V was alright until final season....no comment for VRAIN
I think Konami might behind of Seven.
They infamous to ruin franchise and creator, if said franchise is not sell well they will play their game. Look what have they done to Metal Gear Solid and Kojima

Chance is Konami will abandon Yu Gi Oh someday, it is matter of time.

Am I the only one who noticed how much of a nightmare world they live in? Those robots monitoring them like that is very, very creepy and the fact that they seem ok with it is even worse.

I don't know if I will keep watching, its coming of as way too kiddy for my taste, but it might have some potential.... Maybe, but I am not too hopeful for rush duels, it seems like it's trying to pull off way too much at the same time.

Why I have a feeling that this is something that Kaiba would do, even though he is not in this series?

Because Kaiba will do literally anything if it means beating Yugi, so creating a police state where he monitors every aspect of Duel Monsters right down to personal card trading wouldn't exactly be a big deal for him. Heck, didn't he once basically threaten to commit suicide if Yugi won a battle against him or something just to win? His salt runs deep.

^Well that explains the "mysterious" Blue Eyes in this episode.
Just kidding, but i hope that this is not the case.
I mean the authority there even dictates how children trade each others's cards.
I was like 'what the hell'? Even Kaiba would not go that far as making a little girl cry, no actually he did, in Duel Links.

I guess that's one thing that gave Yuga a motivation to make a difference.

Maybe this one will be like Gx and Zexel where the story become serious in the second half.
