true tears, its in the name itself

Spoiler for anime:

the tears are very pretty in the anime, i drop a few too.

kanon 2006 is pretty sad too, makoto capture my heart (i think she is the only one that actually disappear), and the other girls follow

air is sad, but a bit confusing for me, the end of air is truly the saddest part of the whole show.

myself yourself is quite sad, the twins really highlight some of the true family sadness of the show

Spoiler for towards the end:
makes me very sad and drop tears.

jigoku shoujo fukamori is very sad too (at least watch the ending arc, you'll see)

thats it for now, come back later for more sad animes

oh, i forgot about True Tears and Myself, Yourself. i didn't consider 'myself, yourself' becuase of the concert shpiel at the end, but true tears. witht he guy screaming the little roach song while making a face river really got to me. I think he ended up with the wrong girl, the chicken girl reminds me a Haruhi Suzumiya in a way.

You know, I've always thought something was wrong with me because I didn't find True Tears' ending very sad.
Shin'ichiro was a complete idiot and the ending was a bit expected.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora isn't the saddest anime ever, but it does get you depressed for a short time.

Air obviously isn't as sad if you don't really understand the whole story, but the pacing problems made it more common than would be desired.

Well, you obviously can't see the tragic irony and symbolism of leg splits. Exactly how many shows have you seen that use that as a device, never mind with such gracious effect? Eh. Eh?!?!!?

Samurai X: Reflection - I can't accept back then that Kenshin just died due to a disease WTF.

Samurai Seven -
When Heihachi died just like that and the debris falls from the sky along with him.
When the Samurai no.6 sacrificed himself for the Village and only his boots were remained in the aftermath.

Da Capo -
When the Neko-girl disappears from the household of the Asakuras.

Air -
No need to explain though knowing the story but still very sad end.

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight -
When everyone have to separate and go on with their respective lives.

Gurren Lagann -
When Kamina died after he goes godlike mode and helped Simon defeat the enemies.
When Nia dissipates away at the face of Simon.
When Simon explained that it isn't a good idea to resurrect the fallen since they won't like it.

True Tears-
Noe asked by Shin to break up with him. As Shin keeps on crying and uttering about cockroaches as Noe walks away.

Persona-
Kanaru died.

You know, I'm actually trying to remember a character who does the splits.

...

nothing.

That's probably it, then. I've never been able to fully comprehend the deep implications of leg splits when used in such a fashion, so I must not have understood the ending.

And while your sig is win, this is superior becuase it came first:

HA!

yeah.

EDIT:
@christinemarie: Put all of those in spoiler tags, wow.
Well, now I know what happens in Seisouhen. Thanks.

Spoiler for Leg splits:

Actually, I requested that sig in the Sola thread ages ago, so its debatable whether that pic came first.

And that edit note caused me to read the post in contention. So now I know what happens in those anime. Lol. Your note served to debilitate its original purpose. Jackass.

terra..e - very sad anime (and one of the most underrated anime), it shows that how racism, selfishness and global warming (Al Gore ) could destroy mother earth and strip our rights and freedom.

elfen lied and monster - if you raise a child w/o love, he/she could turn into homocidal maniac. (more reasons that child abuses are wrong)

ai yori aoishi - families tragedies always get me for some reason

evangelion - the whole thing is very psychological, it makes me sad in a weird way

samurai x ova - very sad (one of the best love tragedy show)

more random thoughts

its so sad to see so few tear jerkers (the saddest show is probably Clannad but for some reason it doesnt compare to kanon 2006, hopefully they make it really sad in the after story) for this year.

it is sad to watch sad shows, but it is much sadder to not watch them.

kimi ga nozomu eien is definietly the saddest. It creeped me out at first. After the part where she woke up i quit it cause i was in the middle of exams and it was killing my damn brain cells. LOL joking but still it was very depressing.

Well, there are sad anime and there are depressing anime. I don't know why but I find the two different.

Saddest Anime IMO

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora - I'll admit I cried during this. Manly tears
Air

Lol don't laugh at me for this one

Major (the first 6 episodes) hey, it may be a sports anime, but damn do they know how to lay it on.

Depressing Anime

Neon Genesis Evangelion - I was in depression for 2 weeks after watching the series and the movie. Even the second and third time even though I knew what would happen I went into depression

Kanon 06 - The mystery wrapped around really adds to the depression.

Elfen Lied - I'm still depressed at the anime ending

Air is perpetually sad. While others make me really sad when watching them, every time I think about Air I actually would get sad, while every time I look back at the other ones such as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, SaiKano, Now and Then Here and There, etc..., I just think that they're good series.

After some pondering, I'd probably go with AIR. I found the series a bit too confusing for it's own good, but all the tragedy didn't feel forced at all. For the record, "Saikano" seemed very forced (esp. the ending), and in all the drama series too often the source of all the sadness is just one character being an idiot/making a chain of very specific mistakes allowing the drama to unfold. AIR doesn't have to rely on such gimmicks.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, on the other hand, while not really "the saddest of all time" is a excellent example of a bittersweet story with a pretty natural feel to it.

Ai-Ren is the saddest and most depressing manga I have read so far. It also has a great story and characters and is definitely worth reading. As for anime, Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu and Saikano are pretty sad. And Wolf's Rain maybe.

Are you dissing my SaiKano? I don't see how anything is forced except for the ending, which in my opinion isn't really good. The best part of the ending is how it is used to start the series.
