Plausible?
Unfortunately, there is no "R" or "L" in the first part of ガミラス (Gamirasu). It's official only in the English Subtitles; the original Japanese word, ガミラス, has not been changed. The original root word that was used to coin "Gamilas" in the first place was "Carmilla", the title (and main character) of the vampire novella by Sheridan Le Fanu (according to many published records on the production of the first series), which is rendered カーミラ (Kaamira) in Japanese. So, the name was contracted and a "ス" (su) was added to the end, and it became ガミラス (Gamirasu) or "Gamilas". In some of the early English materials promoting the first feature film, we have a rendering of "Gamilus"; and I may even recall seeing "Gamillus", as well, somewhere along the line. Still, "Garmillas"/"Garmillan", no matter how you slice it, is wrong — no matter what the producers say (and they did, at one point, tell us that they were "Gorgons", too).

A way Gorgon could be used would be as some other race's naming for Gamilas, much like they call us Terons.

Well we are left with attempting to come up with a logical reason for this change.

In other news, Chapter 3 sold about 28,000 copies (DVD and BD together) in its first week according to Oricon. That likely includes all the preorders, but might not include theater sales (I don't know if such a thing would be tracked on Oricon).

Why bother? They are just subtitles, and subject to change. The Japanese dialogue, on the other hand, is canon.
At least, that's my opinion.

That is good news; but probably only reflects sales excluding theatrical, I would assume.

I still think that is misderection, the alterations in her background, including that very informative talk with Hijikata, seem to point that way. But then...who's inside that orange sphere where Yuria had her vision? We'll just have to keep watching, i guess. As if anyone here needed a reason to.

I agree with August, those are just subs, as long as they allow you to understand the story, how they write or miswrite this or that name, annoying as it may be, is really unimportant. At least there are subs and that is something to be thankful.

"Delicious Martian waifu" I think you mean.

Kodai is so clueless.

I wonder if we can estimate how many ships the Gamilas have lost due to Yamato. At least just in Episode 10. (no clear way to know how much of the Pluto Base fleet was at Pluto, or what else might have been on patrol of the ships used at the Battle of Pluto in January of 2199. The assumption is that Yamato got them all, since it was just Schultz ship against Yamato in episode 8.)

I seem to recall that being a tie-in for either a parlor game or the live action movie around 2010 or so.

It was a tie-in for one of the Pachinko Games, IIRC.

Chapter 4 is in theaters January 12th. BD comes out late in February (22nd).

Yamamoto seems to be getting Kodai's old backstory. Probably so Kodai doesn't come across as a hothead anymore, but they can still tell those stories, via Yamamoto instead.

Niimi I think is getting setup for some larger tale in Chapter 3. They do like foreshadowing in this series. But sometimes you can't tell if it is really foreshadowing, or red herrings.

If the preview is anything to go by, it looke like Shima will get some more screen time in Chapter 4.

Spoiler for Character spoiler?:

So, it seems the onscreen name of planet Balan, back in episode 4 (Balun) is confirmed by the subs in episode 10... This is getting ridiculous. Gamilas and Balan for me, please.

Speaking of Balan. It looks like it is a gas planet with a mini-sun inside the atmosphere. And the base looks like a massively built up floating continent.
