You wouldn't really have the poses locked into memory just by watching a show once. And they probably didn't have time while working on costumes to rewatch the same episodes over and over again. It's a tough spot. They got started on this plan late for the sake of drama. But I'm not sure they have an easy out. Honestly the only solution I can think of is leaving everyone on water break and sending Ririsa out by herself. Let her heat up a crowd with her much stronger solo performance and then bring everyone back in once things are fired up. Will still lose the crowd since the performance will drop, but might at least get a few group pictures out there... Quote:
Oh well, it's a minor plot hole. That kind of thing is going to happen in stories.

Cosplayers are human. There's only so much posing and flexing their outfits they can take in searing heat! They need breaks, just like anybody else. But a decisive factor in cosplaying is finding a way to keep a crowd even when you take a break. Which is easy for Lemon and Lime, and less so for our Angelic Squadron .
And Ririsa, as the leader, is taking it personally and as a failure on her part that they're not working as well together or that she can't properly apply her posing knowledge. Mikari and Aria also feel bad for holding Ririsa and Nonoa back. It's not a pretty sight . Okay, maybe Ririsa's dedication staying in-character as Liliel really IS too much. She won't even drink water and risk ruining her makeup? If Okumura hadn't had a rare Liliel bento that he was willing to give her, she probably would have collapsed even sooner. But I guess it also drew attention for her drinking the water bottle from said bento, so...success ? But even with Okumura directing the girls' attention to give them some coordination, they can't completely fight the heat as Ririsa collapses. But luckily Nonoa, no, Nokiel is there to carry her to the infirmary! Even when she was about to collapse, she commits for her best friend! And of course someone takes a picture . Well, they failed, they didn't go viral enough to get the attention of Aria's dad. And Ririsa blames herself and wants to commit even harder to carrying the team and making sure this doesn't happen, but Nonoa isn't having it. Ririsa is placing so much of the burden on herself when she has friends, a team, who are there to support her and be there for her to rely on. That's what it means to be friends! And even if you're not used to having that kind of support in your life, nothing is more powerful! I mean, that's what the Angelic Squadron represents, isn't it ! Time for a crash course in posing from Okumura and Ririsa! Sometimes you need to cram poses and also learn them in order + memorize meaningful things attached to said poses to get them down! The girls are going to commit to this as hard as they can . I know what happened to Ririsa was bad but...wow, Nonoa princess carrying her going viral actually paid off for them, huh ? Lemon and Lime look great as two cute girls in China Dresses...but it's time for Round Two for the Angelic Squadron! This time with their poses down to pat! And with the power of her friends by her side, Ririsas feels like she's truly achieved crossing over to the 2D dimension and fully become Liliel! THIS is why she wanted to become a cosplayer ! They added all four girls posing to the ED !

Heatstroke is NO JOKE! It is serious and no amount of perfectionism or "I can tough through it attitude" can overcome something that is not biologically healthy for the human body. Stay hydrated, stay cool, take breaks, and come back refreshed. If you are in any activity/sports and you feel light headed, dizzy, exhausted, no matter what others say, you need to step out and take care of yourself. It is YOUR body, not theirs.
That said, I'm glad Ririsa recovered and also got a talking to by Nonoa (who really broke out of her shell). Everyone is in it together, and the team coordination really boosted their work ethic and appeal on Day 2. MC can be proud of them! Next episode I hope to see the mangaka discover that his daughter is carrying on his legacy/creation. I really hope he gets to meet the whole gang, especially MC because they are his 2 biggest fans. |

Yeah, I wasn't feeling the team spirit in Ririsa playing around heat stroke . You think the cosplay event is going rough now. I'm pretty sure dying in the middle of it might kill the mood a little! I mean good on the MC for being prepared, but it's more damning for Ririsa that she wasn't. What was her plan for not dying during this event? That Liliel is immune to heat stroke!?
Also again...hey teacher. Pretty sure one of your students dying under your watch might harm your career more than people finding out about your cosplay past! Still points to her for remembering that later on in terms of reminding Okumura kept them taking water breaks. It didn't work out though since he was too busy getting caught up in her passion to force the point. It was pretty close to when she passed out so it might have happened anyways. But it might have made a difference. No issue with Ririsa feeling bad about what happened and blaming herself. It was her fault and she should feel bad! Not only for their plans but because of being careless with her own safety. Of course Ririsa being Ririsa she took it in the wrong direction and was about to make things worse by trying to carry everything solo. Good and helpful outburst by Nonoa. Because yeah being nice to everyone is fine, but what's the point of friends then? I'll take the slightly unbelievable idea that they could memorize 50 poses in a few hours or that if they could do this they probably should have crammed some practice in before the event. Because hey, at least there's an explanation! And kind of nice that Nonoa got her moments to shine. This was something that would matter intensely for her. And she was the rare person in this mix that had a social media presence expressly for this. I'm sure Mikarin had responses too, but it's not like cosplay is her main thing. I'm sure things will at least work out now. They powered through and will be fine. And I'm sure things will turn out fine in terms of getting that message out. With this level of attention it'd be silly if it didn't work.

Well, glad we can re-confirm with Aria's mom that her dad isn't dead! And that he's still producing manga! Aria's mom hasn't really spoken to him in years, but she wants Aria to know he's always paid child support (and it sounds like her mom hasn't actually used said child support, so Aria might have a big college fund!) and wants her daughter to pass on an important message to a man she once loved with all her heart .
The girls did it! Their Airborne Squadron cosplay went viral and Mita-sensei got to see his daughter as Ariel! And she's so much the spitting image of her mother as a teen that he knows 100% it's her! And that means it's time to be a father and face his daughter after 10 years, and his MVP assistants will cover for him right near the deadline ! Dang it Mita-sensei still has so much doubts and pain preventing him from properly facing his daughter...good thing Aria spotted him! And good thing Okumura has plenty to say to him to keep him distracted! Also, Ririsa thought of everything to the point of having a Melia costume at the ready for when Aria needed to face her father . Can't beat a signed rare Liliel cap with an mangaka's signature or Liliel sketch! But the real showstopper is Okumura's passionate rebuking of Mita's trauma over Valkyrie Battle and refusal to look at how beloved his work was by others. Because he wrote it, and he sent it out, and even if there were haters, there were people like Okumura who genuinely loved the manga with all their heart. I mean, it's why he has a fetish for angel women that lead him to fall in love with Liliel (and to an extent Ririsa) ! Once upon a time Mita was just an Okarun-esque boy who liked to draw and had a gyaru girlfriend who believed in him, and together he kept drawing while building his family and eventually became published! But he became so consumed by the work, his conceived failures, and how others saw his work that he failed his family and rejected both his fictional daughter Melia and how Aria loved it just as much. But who better to help reconcile all his feelings than his two daughters standing before him? Aria as 100% quality Melia ! Father and daughter finally reconcile and catch up and its a beautiful scene! Mita sees just how much his work really meant, sees how much his daughter(s) still love him, and can finally move on from the pain and trauma of the past! He owes it to Aria, Okarun, and all his fans . It's also nice of him to make sketches of all the girls' characters, and to see him reinvigorated enough to accept that the side-story is HIS manga and he's going to commit to it as long as he can ! Mita's journey in the world of manga paralleled his journey with his wife, who was his first fan, and she still believes in him even now...and wants to be the first reader of his next work. What better way to reconnect ?

Whew, well glad things worked out. Personally I would have been fine with Aria just chasing her Dad down. But I get what they wanted to go for there. And I guess so long as someone stopped him from downright leaving that'd be enough. Still that was a lucky break. Aria was looking for her Dad, but if she just failed to spot him in that moment it wouldn't have worked out. Or at least they wouldn't have realized the plan worked.
Plus hey, good times to get an autograph . Though couldn't he have also just asked him to stick around for a few minutes to see more of the cosplay? He didn't have to admit to knowing Aria was his daughter. Probably easier than coming up with random efforts to slow him down. But again, it all worked out. Since it was a good opportunity to express what needed to be said. Honestly this was one of the better episodes for the show. It wasn't fanservice focused so the holding back the show has been doing didn't impact it. And it actually gave the main character a good and emotional reason to be there. The story really was his for that moment. Though obviously good for Aria that she got to talk to her Dad and get things across. Should get the guy to actually read his darn fan mail! If he needs thoughts and ideas on how to improve the series...something might click by reading those. It was a sweet message . Although kind of hilarious that because of the passions of his fans...he won't actually be starting a new work for her to read anytime soon .

Oh yeah, Aria couldn't be there on the third day because she had to go visit family! Well, now she gets to actually stay for an extra day because there's a different family meeting going on...her mom and her dad, finally meeting again after so many years! And even if her ex-husband is showing his age more than she is, things actually go pretty well between the two lost loves! I'm so happy for Aria !
I love how Mayuri is just straight up calling it a cosplay club instead of what the club is actually about. I mean, can you blame her? And look at her using club time to just play video games . If that's the cover of Magino's all-ages cosroms, I'd love to see what the 18+ ones look like . Ah, so Mayuri did take a day off to have some fun and go on a date...with her girlfriend Eri! To help sell her cosroms and spend comiket together! Guess that's to makeup for all the time Mayuri spent ditching Eri. Also, I want to see what a cosplay rave is like . Catgirl Nagomi! She looks fantastic, especially when she's blushing and getting all flustered around Kai-sama! And Mikari immediately realizes she's met her most natural rival . Erika Awayuki! The next Heavenly Queen and the cosplayer who best embodies it as an art form and has helped evolve the medium, especially when she's become so close to embodying her character! Just look how amazing she looks as a literal breathing Kantai Colleciton ship girl in the flesh ! Dang, Ririsa still isn't satisfied with her Liliel? Her boobs could be even bigger !? Winter comiket is set! But what does that mean for the group, especially Aria? Well, she's part of the team and she intends to stay that way! I mean, how could she just up and leave Nonoa like that now that they're ride or die besties ? Okumura has Aria's eternal gratitude for all his help making things right with her dad! And with how hard she's blushing around him...could she have fallen for him too? I'm not surprised Mikari senses a new rival, and even Ririsa is a little thrown off, but Nonoa just looks at all the romance drama like everyones' just the best of friends ! Ririsa and Okumura, alone together at last! And of course the pair of them are still super self-conscious about their feelings and the fact that it's a comiket date...and Ririsa, despite trying to deny she sees Okumura that way, doesn't seem to mind the idea of having a boyfriend or Okumura getting mistaken as such. The two of them cosplaying together, with Okumura as Ashford, makes it even better . Look at these two dorks staying in-character as they buy romantic doujins of themselves! And said doujin artist gives it to them because they're every shippers' dream made flesh ! Look at this touching moment between Ririsa and Okumura set to the instrumental version of the first OP! And the first ED comes back in strumental form at the end ! Oh wow, Ririsa's feelings for Okumura are overflowing so much it seems like she's about to admit the truth! Of course who better to interrupt THAT moment...than another Liliel! Only it's not Ririsa, it's Xiayou, the Chinese Liliel! Who Ririsa becomes instant besties with . Lucky Ashford-sama who gets to have two Liliels on his arms! And we actually get to see Ririsa get jealous and pout, which is even better! And also props to Ogino for somehow making this make sense within canon. It's all in the symbolism ! Xiayou has no intention of stealing Ririsa's boyfriend! She practically ships them! It's just a bummer she might be leaving Japan soon...I also kind of wanted to see what she looked like outside her costume, but at least she fired up Ririsa to be the best Liliel she can be . Okay, well, Okumura's admitted he can MAYBE be romantically interested in a 2.5D girl, even if he'd rather admit he's in love with cosplay than he is Ririsa . "Manga Club on the Beach" - BEACH EPISODE ALERT !!!

Things got pretty funny with the double Liliel.
No shock that Okumura still can't admit he's in love with Ririsa (just move it along man), but at least they still get nice moments. Both of them are right there, but there's no way we're going to get that breakthrough in the remaining two episodes. Maybe for the best though since that helps put off Mikari's heartbreak until a season 2 may or may not happen.

It's time for the beach episode! A staple of romcom anime since time immemorial! And it even works for a cosplay romcom because the beach is so scenic! They can even make it fit the sports anime this show has developed into .
Of course Mikari still has her eye on the prize, the prize of getting more intimate with Okumura, though she better watch out for Aria as she's getting more and more interested in Okumura. Even if he's still totally oblivious to 3D girls falling for him . Okumura is so uninterested in 3D girls that he can't even enjoy Mikari looking amazing in a purple bikini! Or Sensei in a tight and sexy one-piece! But for the sake of improving his photography he'll force himself to try to better relate to and appreciate 3D! I mean, just look at Aria in a yellow bikini that shows off her ample cleavage (with even a close-up of her butt) ! Oh, and Nonoa is basically the one girl who wears a school swimsuit so let's not even bother focusing on that . Is it any surprise Ririsa would go out as Liliel in a swimsuit though? Even if it's a day early? Though I feel bad for the other girls that Okumura was so flustered by Ririsa in a white bikini even when she took the wig off...I guess she's really his 2.5 girl. She did look great though . Okumura is such a hardcore otaku he's actually shredded! He's got that Shonen Jump workout down to pat! And the ladies get to enjoy the view . Oooh, Okumura scoring some affection points with Nonoa? She even thinks she's making progress on their Social Link! And she's too caught up in otaku terms to probably be a real threat by Mikari's estimation . Time for a totally legal test of courage! Complete with Aria and Okumura getting some more intimate time together (not that her boobs have any effect on him), Ririsa trying to catch a Ghost Pokemon, and Nonoa acting like she's in an exoricst anime! Oh, and that one Dark Gathering-esque spirit was actually real ! Aria definitely can't deny her feelings for Okumura after he goes to the trouble of giving her a piggyback ride, and she's the first girl he's really opened up to about his trauma with 3D women after his mom betrayed him...and it's Aria's empathy that lets him finally break down and cry about it. And Aria isn't like Okumura's mom, she'd never betray the man she loves...and that man is Okumura ! Time for the girls to show off their swimsuits in-character as the Squadron! And they all look amazing! And this is Mikari's best chance to appeal to Okumura! And when she gets a little forceful she does manage to lead to the best and most real picture he took all day . Mikari's good luck isn't quite over! She's there to give Okumura a shoulder to sleep on for TWO HOURS! But that doesn't compare to the pure love she's held for him for 10 years...a love that transcends her cosplay and reaches even Okumura's heart, for once . But Mikari can read the room, she can see how Okumura feels about Ririsa plain as day, and all she can do is be depressed and stew in her feelings...and then reveal she's in love with Okumura to Ririsa. How will Ririsa respond to this ?

Beach episode is nice. Naturally the girls all look fantastic.
There were some good moments to be sure. At least Aria's (unfortunate) falling for Okumura allowed her to push forward and actually tackle some of his issues. And while it's for the sake of cosplay at least the story is trying to tackle some of this for him. The goal may be to figure out how to improve his pictures, but it's still a good thing for his future. If nothing else things won't really move forward with Ririsa until he gets his head around reality. Jumping into the heartbreak for Mikari. At least she's sensible enough to be able to see what's obvious. Just because she hung in there for 10 years doesn't mean it'll be rewarded. That's just how it goes for a losing heroine. But at least her sacrifice will move the story along so...that's something. One small thing is that this is turning into the sort of harem situation that I don't like. The main girl is absurdly obvious. Ririsa is in love with Okumura, he's in love with her. But even though we're already at that point...it's adding more harem girls like Aria. This isn't going to have a harem ending. Just advance the main pair, deal with the emotional aftermath, and keep on the cosplay thing. But obviously we're not going there. The only hope is that (past this season) that more girls aren't added to the harem. Let's limit the broken hearts from this guy.

We now return to our previously scheduled Mikari revealing her feelings for Okumura to Ririsa! And Ririsa, nice and kind of dense girl that she is, feels bad for never realizing the obvious and is more than ready to distance herself from Okumura for Mikari's sake. But that's not what Mikari wants, not when she cares about both Ririsa and Okumura .
Mikari has held her love for her Senpai for 10 years, she loves pretty much EVERYTHING about him, it's a pure love that was able to weather all the attempts to find reasons to stop loving him (and she found PLENTY) even though she doesn't think he'll ever return those feelings . And what about Ririsa? Mikari poured her hear out, so it's only fair that Ririsa does as well. Ririsa CAN say she loves Okumura, but she can't say for certain it's the same kind of love that Mikari feels for him (especially when she treats him like a fangirl treats a fictional character), even though she feels Okumura is an irreplaceable person she can't do without both as a cosplayer and as a woman . But hey, y'know, rather than being love rivals...maybe they can just be friends who mutually like the same guy? They both have found someone who sees all the great things about a certain person the way they do, so they're basically Okumura stans! Why, if they rope in Aria they can make a full club! Though Mikari says she's willing to step aside for Ririsa to be with Okumura if it comes down to it . OKUMURA HEARD THE WHOLE THING. And now his deep trauma about women and love is coming to the forefront, especially when he realizes he'd probably have to reject Mikari and what that would mean for the club. Oh, and Mayuri overheard it too. Well, time for some mentoring . Mayuri herself is a hardcore otaku so she can't say she's experienced with relationships and love, always looking at it in fictional terms, but it seems her relationship with Eri taught her that real romance can be complicated and not at all what you'd expect so Okumura shouldn't immediately dismiss the possibility that his feelings for Mikari might change. Just like he can't dismiss the girls' true feelings for him or the fact that he MEANS something to these girls and that all these years of trying to fade into being an otaku who never experiences these things doesn't diminish the fact that he's an actual person with a life and people who care about him. I mean, if even an angel like Liliel can feel genuine romantic love for Ashford, then so can Okumura ! And Okumura is channeling that feeling into facing the cosplayers as people, not just the characters they portray but the true people and feelings beneath the cosplay. Such as Ririsa, who can't deny she truly loves Okumura romantically, even as she's convinced he'll never return her feelings. And it's those feelings poured into a profession of love as her Liliel that lets Okumura capture the 2.5 Ririsa ! Glad Aria and Mikari both got couple selfies with Okumura ! Ending montage! Nonoa always looks forward to going to the Manga Research Club's school because she has the most fun there, Aria's parents are still seeing each other, and everyone is all pumped to watch an Okumura cut version of the Liliel anime! And what better way to close out than one last LILIEL!!!! for the road and THE CONFIRMATION OF SEASON 2 IN PRODUCTION !

And so it ends !
This show has been an interesting ride if nothing else. Seriously this episode certainly went places. Very strange places, but it went there! Certainly a rare occasion for the harem lead to realize how badly he's going to break the losing love interests. Normally they don't care that much about it or focus on it. Well hey, props to him though. At least him realizing how badly this could go is certainly refreshing. If nothing else this was easily the strongest episode of the show. Good character moments, self-reflection, and pondering the future. It certainly gave Okumura a chance to open his eyes. I feel part of this was mostly to keep fans of characters besides Lilliel hooked. But let's pretend that he is at least opening his eyes to the idea that he doesn't have to plan out his rejection just because he hasn't fallen for Mikari yet. Credit to the show. For a lot of it I wouldn't say it was good, but this last episode was very solid. There was plenty of refreshing elements like Mikari and Ririsa talking things out in a way that doesn't always happen in this sort of harem situation. This was a really good last episode. Absolutely was really good for most of the episode. Though I'd put the series overall closer to a 6.5/10. There was a lot that I don't worked super well. A lot of moments that were probably supposed to be carried by fanservice weren't able to be. Mostly because they seemed to really censor themselves. Moments that were supposed to be carried by emotions worked fairly well though. Will I watch a season 2? I don't know. The last episode was good enough to at least make it a possibility.
