I'm pretty much where I want to be before doing Chapter 13. Can't do any better than a low B on Two Legs. Going to try a little bit of Ultimate Party Animal (probably just the Musclehead Colosseum part). Skipping the Corel Protorelic 4 because Kid G absolutely railed me after I got what I did with Aerith against the Cactaurs (I read it's better to do that later anyway). So beyond that, I guess it'll be the homestretch for the game.

Congratulations on beating the queen! Her deck isn't all that special, but it does require some tweaking to beat.
Kid G is a great fight, very reaction-heavy though. He basically does a one-two strike twice and then shimmies for goblin punch. You parry the first two and dodge the third, he goes into pressure, you build some extra meter and finish with stagger attacks. It may take two rounds of this if you're not optimized for stagger damage, he's got a lot of health. I'd recommend doing the protorelics before ch.13, but if you've already gone ahead, it's cool - there's always chapter select afterwards. |

Conversely, I'll "nope" my way away from the Ultimate Party Animal sidequest for now because I understand the Musclehead Colosseum stuff is super hard (like 2 jokers at once with a 3rd enemy).

Musclehead Colosseum has end-game fights, like, hard mode end-game fights. I'd say it is one of the more frustrating parts of the game and really, really needs some specific materia and party compositions, so yeah... you can leave that for later. Getting all of the protorelics should be achievable, though.

That fight unlocks Corel Region Enemies 2 in the combat simulator. The final one with 2 Death Claws and Kid G rolled me last night. Watched a couple videos today and, while it took a few minutes, was able to beat that without much difficulty. Just kited Kid G around with Tifa while trying to avoid the Death Claws, built up Kid G's stagger, took him out, and then was able to deal with the Death Claws fairly easily. For the last one I had Aerith use her Level II limit break to allow me to just wail on the Death Claw without being damaged. Also did the Unlimited Party Animal Chocobo Race. My second try was by far the best race I ran of all Chocobo races. Won by maybe a quarter lap. So much easier when you don't have other racers bouncing into you or cheap traps.

All my chocobo issues disappeared when I started using Fango. Jump is just the best counter to cactuar doors, which is the worst random obstacle in the game.
If you have weapon level 8 Tifa, she can solo death claws; all you need is speed demon charm and you can keep throwing them off of their attack animation with omnistrike / rise and fall or even trinity strike (as long as you can get all 3 hits). She's also the best character to face Kid G, since she's the fastest. UPA is among the hardest side quests, be mentally ready for a tough time... and good luck |

I actually had to watch a video on Trinity Strike because the description made zero sense. I tried to time it off when Attack changes to Trinity Strike, but that didn't work, so I switched to timing it off the animation. I can reliably get the first hit part because Tifa jumps backwards away from the enemy and it's pretty clear, but the second hit with her kicking the third time is still hard for me to see and time. I am almost certainly not finishing UPA because I suck at a couple of the minigames, but I figure I might as well try some of them.

So many of the trials were gut-wrenching... Barret and Aerith had it the worst, but Nanaki and Yuffie had to live through... well, that.
Be prepared for the final battle, it takes a looooong time to finish! |

Anyway... Yeah, reading through the list of final boss battles, I figure it'll take a long time. I hope there's a chance to save either manually or at least get a checkpoint save that occurs automatically. I doubt I'll be able to do this in one sitting tomorrow... maybe one sitting on Sunday. I read more how you get characters for the final battle, so it really was useless to try to game the affection after I got the Intimate Tifa date. I can at least spend time equipping characters tomorrow. I may also not have enough materia based on what the walkthrough I'm following suggests. But, we'll see.

I figure that since the Revives are only 1 star (except for one), Phoenix Downs are going to be critical. I gotta remember to put my second Elemental on someone. The walkthrough I saw mentioned doing that with Ice, but it didn't specify armor or weapon... I assume armor because the guide is listing all the offensive materia on armor. I put Ice-Elemental on one character but forgot to set the other one. I put Magnify-Healing on Cloud and Red XIII. I have 7 Healing materia, at least, so everyone has one. How long did the final bosses take you, if you recall? I'll need to set aside enough time, I guess, if there isn't a save opportunity (definitely was hoping for a checkpoint).

You don't need 7 sets for the basic magic materia, just two, spread out among your party. You definitely have fire/ice and lightning/wind, so you basically only need one more set. Yuffie has ninjutsu, so she can do without. For healing, if you have maxed our Prayers, Barret and Red are probably the best ones - Mag Healing and chakra also work wonders for Cloud. Revive works just fine at 1 star, Arise costs too much MP anyway. You can buy precision defense focus from either Chadley or the bench shops, can't remember exactly, but it's common enough.
IIRC the final chapter took me 2.5 hours, but I had to run it over when I got to a certain part of the fight. P.S: Make sure you got materia on Aerith... yeah. |

And, yeah, I had seen Aerith is involved, so I didn't de-equip her of anything except the Magnify materia she had equipped. I didn't get to it today so I'll probably wait until next weekend; no chance I have even 90 minutes straight of time during the week, and I don't want to feel rushed, especially with the scenes around the fights.
