Honestly, that just seems like that has more to do with her being a battle manic. Even in her dreams she all about swords.

Kanami is the one who dreams about swords. We haven't seen Hiyori's dreams yet.

Hiyori was just holding onto her weapon because she's being (properly) paranoid. As a fugitive she assumes (correctly) that she can be attacked at any time, and that she can't trust anyone (she may or may not be right about that part). So she keeps her weapon on hand.

Kanami is the one who dreams about swords. We haven't seen Hiyori's dreams yet.

Her first known dream in the series is about her mother. All we know about Hiyori's mother is that she was a former Toji and she was ailing from an unknown illness (Hiyori was taking care of her the entire time) before passing away.

One theory is that Hiyori's mother was one of those assigned to take down the Great Aradama during the Tragedy of Sagami Bay 20 years prior and has been struck by an illness connected with the Great Aradama. This should create a connection between the letter taken by Hiyori in the family dojo and Hiyori's grudge with the Origamis.

I wonder if more than just that. The house, that letter and first episode gave me the impression she has been involved in shady business for awhile now underneath cover of a student. As if she being backed by somebody.

Episode 4 Review:

i'm appreciate this ep value is high, character development is good, comical scene is pretty well done, ost pretty good. So our precious Hiyori and Kanami-chan is not actually hidden at all

The story really is pretty intriguing, with two opposing factions using two fugitives to further their respective agenda. I can't say the budget cuts are welcome though. I mean, there's a lot of 3D doubles here than in the previous episodes.

Eren & Karou are really good when they fight together, both had multiple skill sets that put both their opponents under pressure at times.

I too would have run if my opponents had S Armor, looks like we will being seeing more of those 2 soon.

I had a feeling Hiyori would come back, she also makes a great team with Kanami when they fight together.

Now we know a bit more about her & her mother plus her reasons for what her personal mission is.

Episode 4:

This anime is becoming really good. Some more things are revelead on why Hiyori want to assassinate the leader of the origami family. And the action is getting better as well... funny that Ellen uses Kongoshi - it reminds me that her voice actress is also va of Kongou in Kancolle.

I somehow suspect that Kanami subscribes to the Nanoha school of befriending, only with less internal bleeding and fewer hospital stays.

That said... an entire military unit with actual vehicles? Almost feels like an excessive response.

I think it is to trapping Kanami and Hiyori inside while keep out normal folk, beside they need a base of operation with technology, device to locate, detect thing

So, Elen and Kaoru might be part of resistance group too and they just come to test Kanami and Hiyori.

The camera focus on Yomi when other elite guards talk about resistance group...could it be that she actually tags along to help Kanami and Hiyori escape.

Liking this anime so far. Interesting characters, and solid story so far.

Not sure if the background for the okatana is the same as the real ones though.
I played a game focused on the actual swords, giving description and background on them. Combined with the knowledge I have of the warring states period, and Chidori has an interesting background

Spoiler for Chidori:

The original name of Raikiri (aka Raikirimaru). Once owned by Tachibana Dousetsu, a samurai that lived during the warring states period. In his youth, the took shelter under a tree while it was raining. Suddenly, lightning bolt struck him, and he cut the lightning god inside it. This event paralyzed about half of his body, but made him fairly famous, and thus Chidori was renamed to Raikiri (Lightning Cutter).

Not sure if the above applies to the Tojiverse though

Kogarasumaru is also a famous sword, its name often used in other anime, not as a sword, but as something else: A mech, a ship, a team name, etc...

Since they were sent out in response to someone calling what appeared to be illegal versions of Toji power armor, one can hardly call that overkill.

Look like Kanami and Hiyori will deal with Elite Guard while Ellen and Kaoru will provide some support from shadow without expose themself, but it is unlikely because of the supposed illegal S-Equipment. Beside Yume will pressing Mai back in the HQ and possibly Sayaka will help her and betray that Yukina bitch order
