Oh well, it's not the first anime where crap like that happened...

Anyway, here are my current top 5 favorite manga:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion (the German version generally is the first translated version outside Japan )
- Slayers
- Love Hina
- Tokyo Mew Mew
- Othello (Information -=- Volume 1) Isbn 3-89885-916-9

From the bunch that i have read and none of the all the way through either, i give you

Slam Dunk
(The first few volumes of this that i have got are in french, ibasically sat reading it accompanied by a dictionary, at that point i was still studying french so I got along okay, now it's too hard)

Real
although there has been only three volumes the characterers and the stories are already gripping me and I just love Inoue's style of drawing!

Ranma 1/2
(I bought these at £11.25 a volume, i have about 11 of the volumes these books alone cost me over hundred quid , I now realise how crazy i was to buy the english translated version)

I'll basketball dreams
another basketball one

Monsters
(though i have only seen one or two in the middle of the whole series)

In no exact order...

1. Mars
2. Kare Kano
3. Saikano
4. Kodocha
5. MPD Psycho

Probably Fruits Basket would bump one of the others off the list, since I absolutely love the anime, but since I have only read Vol. 1 I can't add it with certaintly yet.

I''s : love the story and characters and the fanservice doesn't hurt.
20 Century Boys: always up for a little mystery.
3x3 Eyes: got hooked on the OVA and just needed more.
Blade of the Immortal: love the story and cant wait to till the rest of my volumes arrive.
Gantz: seems like an interesting story.
Yakitate Japan:never thought baking bread would be so funny.

I love a lot of other manga like Naruto and Hikaru no Go, but those have been made into anime form so i left those out.

Thumbs up

This going to be hard I read a lot of Manga.

Pardise Kiss
I'm not a big shoujo fan but the drama and characters are cool, and I feel I can relate to them. Plus the art is really nice. Which is my big complaint about shoujo manga. Most shoujo manga has screen tone issues for me. This one doesn't. In fact I think the use of screen tone in Para Kiss was great.

One Piece
Years ago, 99 or 2000 I would say, my friend was getting Shounen Jump. She was getting it for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. But she told me about some of the other manga in it. She knew some Japanese but she was far from perfect. So her expansion of One Piece was a bit vague, but as soon as she said Pirates looking for some treasure called the once piece I knew I had to read this manga. I waited forever. I bought the trade paper backs as soon as they come out here. Getting a cable modem was a great help too. I guess I lucked out it could have sucked, but it didn't. In fact One Piece rocks my socks. Great characters, a fun story and some really cool art, pirates, sea monsters, and bad ass fighting. I couldn't ask for more.

Akira
Yes, the manga is expensive as hell, but this is one of the best comics period. The art is just outstanding and great to see at a large page size. It's amazing to see the amount of detail in the art, I'm always astounded about it. The panels have great flow. The story is great far better then the anime. It is really worth it to shell out the cash for it, if you love comics and or manga.

Sanctuary
This manga is out of print, and I hope Viz reprints it soon so I can finish it. This is a great man's manga. You have the yakuza, politics, hot guys, bad ass gay guys, and some really cool chicks. I love the art style in this, another manga with lots of detail. If you like this manga I also recommend Strain, it is by the same guys, and almost as good at Sanctuary.

Bastard!!
My friend and I used to rent the tapes of the anime every few weeks, untill the DVD came out. I was so excited to hear the manga was coming out in English. And it is great, the art is cool. I own Hagi's art book Nude, I love his color pieces. And the story is even more over the top the the anime. It's great, though I guess this could be pretty offensive to some, but really I feel it's all in good fun.
