Meiji Hiiro Kitan

This is a lovely manga series I just stumbled across and wish I had done so earlier.

Summary: It’s the middle of the Meiji Era and our heroine, the little Suzu, is sold to the red lights district. However, the rich heir of a dry goods store Tsugaru buys her freedom for no apparent reason. She is deeply grateful for being saved, but she doesn’t understand why he paid so much money for her and the only explanation he offers is “we have a bond.” She tries to unravel the mystery of his feelings and gradually grows from a little girl to a young woman, always by his side. A gentle and slow-paced love story set in the Meiji Era.

The description does not do it justice - this is an endearing little work, and is up to ch 12 as of the time this thread was created.

Anyone else following this series?

Annddd.... I have finally caught up to ch 12.

And I hafta say that I really like what I have read thus far. It has been extremely engaging in the sense of both sweet and interesting with a dash of small flashes of both insight into human nature and character depth. And the best part of it is that it was an unexpected bonus after reading the first couple of chapters and getting hooked.

Just plain enjoyable in my opinion. ^^

Ch 13 is released ... and we finally get a brief glimpse of the person who seems to be the main antagonist of the series!

Actually I quite like it, it feels like Sherlock Holmes but set in Meiji Era with a little girl as well. The main guy Tsugaru comes off as eccentric as Holmes does.

And it appears the series will be finishing up in a few months.

It also may be getting a sequal series... a timeskip could be interesting here....

Another chapter has been released, and had to laugh at the scheming sisters... this chapter was definitely lighter in tone than many of the others.

By the way it looks like this manga is ending soon but also that there will be a sequel - my guess is that there will be a timeskip of a few years?

Definitely looking forward to the sequel....
