Goes to show the difference of the times as well. Even Makarov was completely dumbfounded by the idea of tactics. I'm pretty sure this two-teams strategy was the peak of his tactical proficiency .
Mavis forged her guild in a time of war and it shows. When it comes to winning she'll make the necessary moves and devise a full blown strategy as needed. Combining those tactics with the skill of the team should give Fairy Tail a pretty strong early edge. While the Lucy rescue mission isn't going too badly, they do have a long way to go there. Not sure why the Princess felt the need to play the role of a jerk. Could have just dropped them in there quietly.

well the animation still hurts my eyes, they even took out all the special effects of magic. i don't understand why so many people like this new animation when it is so bad.
about the episode, even if she could calculate and predict the movements of everyone in the field, what was her strategy, to let the weak one get defeated by others and fairy tail only fights moderate and tough mages, and if she is so good of a tactician that she has a title for it, why hasn't she come up with plan to defeat Jura. finally it made a little sense when trying to psychologically weaken Rufus. but then again you can't expect strategy in this anime, having seen a lot of Hunter x Hunter, Mavis's plan can't even be called a strategy.

Well, this might somewhat be related.
http://www.sponichi.co.jp/society/ne...007998030.html (Japanese article) http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/20001...itles/69062336 (English post on gamefaqs) Perhaps some of the employees decided to jump ship to another studio with better working conditions -> leading to a lack of experienced animators to work on the series? He wasn't an animator per se, but its not like its going to be any better for them. Its a stretch, I know. |

Also, keep in mind that one of the animation studios changed from Satelight to Bridge. That's the sort of thing that'll definitely impact things. |

It looks like they only adapted one chapter this episode. Surprising for an episode that had the least amount of recap so far (Not counting the first one).
Most of the filler material was spent with Natsu and the others (Which I admit was quite funny, which Fairy Tail filler is quite good at) and I think they added a little more to Grey struggling against Rufus. Last edited by MCAL; 2014-04-25 at 21:38. |

With how long that took I still think it's a stretch that Gray was originally put into the final team even before Natsu had to leave to save Lucy.
But guess it shows was pure stubbornness can do for you . Really the only strategy to use was to pretty much tank hits and get in close enough to one-shot Rufus. Luckily Rufus wasn't nearly as durable as Gray or this fight could have taken a long time to conclude. Wasn't bad either to try and just overwhelm the memory make by shear numbers. Good laughs with the other group though. Heck of a strategy there Happy . Even had Yukino smiling a bit.

the fight was not all that good, the delay in the battle with Rufus giving gray a beating and gray holding back din't make much sense, he could have just taken off his clothes from the beginning and i was expecting some more better ice magic skill rather than just the feelings power.
the ice make unlimited was cool, should have shown more like that. i could have totally gone without the happy's plan, they shouldn't waste time like this instead add some better content.

the filler content that they put in the fight was not so good, they could have put much better content and should have shown off some more advancement in Gray's ice make since the second origin power up that ultear did on them. but they just put a one hit defeat. i hope they don't screw up Rogue and Sting's fights.

Gray vs Rufus!
He rushed into that fight head on. Rufus looked like he was playing with him. Guess Gray didn't thought things through. It was reckless to use up all his moves right from the start. Defeating Rufus demands a carefully thought out plan. His memorizing ability is a really dangerous one. Showing Natsu & others and interrupting that fight was not a good move. They should've done it differently. Well, it was nice to see Gray managed to pull himself together.

The fight seemed to drag on for a while. I understand why, but it did feel long. I wonder if the change in studios has anything to do with it, since it was the first time the fight didn't feel as good. Typically the studio is great at padding certain scenes from the manga.
I liked the little part of Lucy and the gang in the dungeon. It was nice seeing Yukino smile. Similarly, it was nice seeing Juvia struggle to come to Gray's side. |

The fight was good imo, the part when Gray took Ruffu's hat looked more epic in the manga, also I'm kind of dissapointment on the fluency of the animation, there was one part in which Lucy moves her head to see Natsu but it not showed the full movement it just disappear and then appears on the direction that natsu was.

I think the animation is great. I don't really understand what some people mean when it doesn't look as good, though there was that one scene with Juvia's eyelashes and her hair. But Juvia looks especially good with the new animations. I am actually really liking the new animation.
I can't wait for this arc to continue though, since after reading the manga for this arc, I have a feeling that if it is pulled of correctly it will be the best anime arc I have ever seen, but let's wait until that happens before I say it prematurely. Anyway, I'm not really sure how Mavis's strategy isn't sound or smart to the viewer... She doesn't want to overly exhaust the people involved just like that woman in Sabertooth, and they planned pretty decent attack combinations/surprises. I thought the scene with Gray's memories was pretty badass. Though... honestly... I still don't know how I feel about Gray winning like that... Rufus memorized spells from those ancient tomes for god's sake like super quickly... I don't see how Gray's magic could have actually been that hard to memorize on the spot especially if Rufus had a photographic memory (which he seemed to have...) Though I think that was really the animators fault since Ice Make: Unlimited should have been larger/taller/ and thus harder to memorize... I can't wait for more of this arc... and lol to troll Happy. Mira-tan. |
