I did like the previous set up of Athena. Only thing is, pre-rewrite Praxidike had no other purpose but being there. It gives people the impression that they're like the Avengers but on a much smaller scale.

The Replicas still retain though. Only this time they get to mob against the Minerva without intrusion from the Silver Gospel or any other IS.

Bleeding edge technology in general, but they ended up backstabbing each other because each of them wanted a monopoly.

Fallen Nation Corps are formed by the remnants of that project who called a truce, funding certain terrorist group and made them their puppet. They're pissed when Tabane revealed that she's WAY ahead their league.

Sure is disappointing to be part of them. It's like they got supertech and thought they are the most powerful in the world, only to realize there's someone who possess and even greater power.

It was on purpose, but even Tabane is human and not invincible.

By a certain pint, Tabane's machination caused the regression of world order and sparking global war, EVERYONE has their own I.S.-copy (or something that could match them, at least). It's like going from Real life Cold War to Strangereal-level mayhem.

Somehow it sounds like all the OCs in powered-armor fanfics can be thrown in there just for brief-cameo purposes. XD

Tabane is human allright, but her knowledge could potentially beat Einstein's when it comes to the Infinite Stratos.

It's even lampshaded in the transplant Fic where I.S. character lived in Strangereal (Ace Combat's fictional world), I.S. doesn't exist.

Tabane's VERY EXISTENCE already caused all sort of mishap, started with 1995 Belkan War all the way to 2045 Corporate War... 50 years full of conflict triggered by a girl's engineering notebook, who would have thought?

1. Abnormal performance and durability WITHOUT the trick below.
2. Total immunity to guided weapon and bullets (except the intake)
3. Perfect radar stealth
4. All sort of supertech weapon in such small package, pure wankery.

No one else can recreate the second feature, ever, and the rest is nerfed greatly anyway. The second unit is pure joke, just a souped up Berkut-Eagle Hybrid (still a great plane, but seriously).

By a notebook? I know everyone wants to make stronger weapons but that notebook must've had a lot of gamebreaker info in it to trigger a mad power race. Then again, this is Tabane we're talking about...

Hints already there in the chapter 1, Belkan war revolutionized engineering technology, and the source is none other than Tabane. The notebook, I mean, is kind of symbolic in that regard. It's full of untested concept and philosophy, and the pages are spread out all over the world, sparking the sudden spike of mad scientist that lead to crazy stuff like Excalibur and Arkbird.

She actually hesitate to make another perfect Morgan due for it being TOO gamebreaker, not even for Houki. Instead, she create the second generation unit: the FALKEN. She reluctantly gave Pixy the first Morgan because she felt NOTHING else can challenge Galm 1, aka Demon Lord.

Houki's FALKEN actually met a second, imperfect Morgan later in the story.

I could only guess who's piloting that second Morgan...

The current plan I have with Athena re-write is that as the flashback mentioned, the Core AI "Athena" spends her life learning about all the shuttle projects and incidents for nine-ten years, continually studying and refining the knowledge until it bogs down to the perfect unit for space exploration.

No doubt, with a Core AI, the resultant unit has to be an IS. The pilot though, is another matter.

She needs one, yeah. While on the course of space exploration, Athena needs a human pilot to learn emotions, instinct and how the pilot reacts to various situations in space... and she needs someone who's new to space.

Odd choice, but that's how I plan it to be. Given the IS' "females-only" nature, the pilot cannot be Inami so the honor goes to the second-best candidate of the Minerva Project.

And the 2nd Morgan, though made using 2004's technology, still clearly inferior to FALKEN in all aspect except firepower (it has small-size MPBM AND Improved TLS pod) and maybe endurance (She has higher G-tolerance due to her origin)

Is there something fundamentally wrong with Ichika's canon characterzation? Denseness just implies being insensitive and ignorant, but I think his character goes far beyond that now. I can't put my finger on it but I find it bizarre ever since I tried to locate the parts that made him difficult to write for me.

Being an ass was not his intention, IGNORANT is, he said in his monologue he didn't want to delve into romance... twice. Fans simply can't accept Harem hero who DOESN'T want a girlfriend yet. Ichika is not badass enough to be an exception, for that matter.

And as Hawke said long ago, simply refusing them is not an option. Not only it's hazardous to his health, but it'll make things awkward between them as well.

Overall, Ichika is really that bad in socializing, especially with he opposite sex. So in my opinion, he purposefully keep the status quo. It's mean, but not like the girls are saint either.

I'm not just talking about romance. Just overall life. Studies, sense of direction, aesthetic for domestic chores, slight hot blooded shonen tendencies, inexplicable ability to attract women. It's like... Ichika's supposed to be the amalgamation of a purity stu that was halfway done or something.

All the while claiming to be an average joe. It might sound something like a jealousy rant but seriously, I find something wrong with this.

By then, technological institutes no longer ridiculed the idea of the IS as they did when the creator, Tabane Shinonono, first introduced its theoretical potential. Said potential was no longer theoretical; it was proved practical and acknowledged by the world in a single major event of apparent terrorism.

As per their acknowledgement, 467 Infinite Stratos Cores were distributed worldwide from an unknown source and Core 001, the first IS core that belonged to the mysterious White Knight, was among those that were given to technological institutions.

The Hyperion Corporation, an institution in the United States known for their forte in autonomous systems development, received one of the IS Cores but the director of the institution kept the transaction secret from the rest of its personnel… except for one. Gerald Bastion, one of the Corporation’s most resourceful engineers, was entrusted with safekeeping the IS Core by the director who foresaw the eventual fall of Hyperion as most of its personnel would soon abandon the institution in favor of contributing their knowledge of artificial intelligence to the development of the country’s first Infinite Stratos, the Silver Gospel.

“Sir… this Core is our gemstone! If your prediction of Hyperion’s fall is true, this thing will help us prevent it!”

Young Gerald has always been fond of developing AIs of various specializations. During then, the Hyperion Corporation has been trying to develop an AI that can assume control of a space-faring vehicle and do independent research on worlds beyond Earth. The hopeful Gerald has always dreamt of space exploration and has been working on developing the ideal AI unit that can undertake the task even before the Infinite Stratos came into existence.

“I’m afraid that chance has come and gone, friend. Humans have always been caught up with evolution and the need to be stronger than anyone else… I cannot risk having this… child… weaponized into another war machine. We don’t need those anymore in this world.”

“But… the Corporation will—”

“It already has, Bastion. There’s nothing we can do that will stop its derailment.”

Sitting before Gerald, the Corporation’s director stood up with a sealed titanium box and walks towards him. Without a single sign of reluctance, he hands the box to Gerald who gently receives it, firmly holding the box with both hands.

“Listen here, friend. I want you to take this Core to Yakushima Island, south-west of Japan. There lies an underground research facility which holds a database of Japan’s countless space vehicle and equipment development projects.”

“…What? H-How do you know of this?”

“Hyperion Corporation’s past Director made strong ties with some of Japan’s astronautical engineers and he secretly commissioned a two-sided beneficial initiative known as the Miyanoura Project, an independent database that would hold information of both the United States’ and Japan’s space projects. When the military began taking interest in AI usage in warfare, their involvement with the Corporation did not sit well with the Director and he made an agreement with his Japanese counterparts to seal off the facility for good…”

“It was sealed off…?”

“Yes. According to him, it was the most painful call he had to make… and I agreed. More so with the sudden appearance of the Infinite Stratos…”

The director places his hands on both of Gerald’s shoulders, fully entrusting him to the Corporation’s secrets.

“This child must not fall into military hands, no matter the cost. Bring the Core to the underground database facility in Yakushima Island where I have already arranged a couple of our fellow Japanese rocket scientists to link up with you. They will know what to do with the Core… After that, I want you to look after her.”

“'Her’… Sir?”

The director walks to his desk and takes a brown, medium-sized folder with the word “Athena” imprinted on its cover and a very thin stack of documents in its contents then passes it to Gerald.

“Athena. That is her name.”

“Who’s name, sir…?”

“The child, the artificial intelligence that resides within the Core I gave you.”

Never would it have struck Gerald that the IS Core would contain an AI despite how advanced the equipment is. He stares at the box with a shocked face and looks back to the director in disbelief.

“She will be given complete access to the database. While she studies humanity’s knowledge, I want you to watch over her and protect her when need be. Let her learn and refine our knowledge so that she can develop the ideal space exploration vehicle and equipment.”

Gerald briefly remained silent as he thinks through the various possibilities; an artificial intelligence, possessing the capacity to process information in ways far superior to a human being’s, being given knowledge to humanity’s greatest feats and the mistakes that lead to the most tragic of accidents. Time-consuming as it may be, Gerald has been through a lot to know that the greatest achievements come with relentless patience and resilience to overcome the challenge of time.

He takes the folder from the director with confidence sparkling in his eyes.

“I understand… and I will do what’s necessary, Director.”

“Thank you, friend.”

That looks good, man. Here's what I got so far with mine for chapter 9.

I tried to get myself up, but it feels like that I have a huge weight throughout my body, preventing me from getting up.

I can fairly hear Sideswipe in the radio comms to alert Ratchet and Scourge…

“Hot Shot’s down! Hot Shot, Hot Shot!”

“UO-O-O-O-O-O-H-H-H-H! Stop this at once!”

“Who are you guys? And why are you attacking that IS?”

The radio comms are flooding with constant chatter from multiple sources; making it difficult to make out who’s saying what.

All the while my helmet’s vision began to slowly turn grey to red hue.

“Grgh…”

I looked where the rogue IS was standing before, to find it down.

Then I struggled to turn around as I crawled.

Oh shit…

Six more ISes had entered the fray. They must be the ones who were picked up earlier.

Sideswipe, Ratchet and Scourge each have two ISes on them.

I can’t distinct them in color because of the red hue on my helmet’s visor.

The best they can do is avoiding their attacks.

Scourge’s engaging an IS wielding twin katanas and she’s being backed up by another IS with orb shaped shoulders, who’s currently firing down on him.

As he managed to get out of her firing range, the twin wielder charged immediately after him to keep the pressure on him.

“You want some!-?”

Scourge went barehanded as the twin wielder was about to swing both her Katanas; but Scourge caught hold of both of her hands, getting in a deadlock.

I looked to see that Ratchet’s engaging on a pair of ISes of his own. This time both ISes are gun wielders; one staying up in the air firing a sniper rifle, as for the other one, she’s on ground level dual wielding machine guns.

Ratchet was avoiding the sniper’s shots while engaging the IS that’s at ground level, firing his flak cannon at her.

The IS he’s firing on fired back.

Even though he’s managing on his own, Ratchet’s not that suited for melee combat if it were to come down to it.

As for Sideswipe, his situation’s like Scourge’s. One IS wielding a katana fully engaging on him, while another IS stayed back and provided support; the support being what looked like a railgun that’s mounted on her right shoulder.

But the katana wielder is very different from the other 5 ISes, the pilot of that is a guy. There’s only one guy in the whole world who can pilot an IS; Ichika Orimura.

While Sideswipes avoiding the railgun shots, the katana wielder charged straight at him.

While I’m down maybe I can get something from these ISes…

“Ratchet, you think that you can get some intel on them?”

“I’m trying all I can to avoid getting filled with holes! And exactly what kind of intel?”

“Mainly where those ISes came from; Tezla warned us beforehand that IS Academy would send out more ISes.”

He also said that our Silverbacks spark can restore the energy shield on its own after it was broken through, but how long will that take?

Real bad time to be down right now.

*BAM!* *Click Clack*

“Gugh-ah!”

Ratchet hit his target in the chest and stumbled back a bit and he took advantage of this before she recovered.

“Okay, I’m doing a quick scan on them…”

Ratchet received a feedback that confirmed where those six ISes are from.

“Oh, Shit! Now IS Academy’s joined the party!”

Well that confirms Tezla’s heads up.

“Man, aren’t you persistence?”

Sideswipe kept on avoiding Ichika’s strikes. He pulled out his Desert Ranger and took aim at Ichika in close range.

*KLANG!*

Ichika knocked the Desert Ranger out of Sideswipe’s hand; landing right beside me.

Now, unarmed, he kept on moving back to increase the distance, so he can get his Saber out.

Noticing this, Ichika made a sudden burst of speed towards Sideswipe; holding his katana high above his head, Ichika’s about to swing it down.

*Vr-r-r-r-rm!*

Sideswipe immediately revved his Saber’s Chainsaw Bayonet.

*Ki-ck!* *Eer-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!*

Sparks are flying in between Sideswipe and Ichika as they get into a deadlock.

“Ugh-er-r-r-r-r.”

Ichika has the advantage beacuse he’s much taller than Sideswipe, thanks to his IS. With that, he’s able to apply downward pressure on Sideswipe.

Just like how the rouge IS did with me earlier.

As Ichika’s applying more pressure, Sideswipe’s struggling to keep up.

*Eer-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!* *Krgh…*

“Gugh!”

Ichika suddenly swung his katana sidesways, knocking Sideswipe back.

Sideswipe tried to recover, but it was too much for him and he fell back.

As Sideswipe struggled to get back up, Ichika made a charge straight at him, ready to thrust his katana at him.

If he gets hit by that, it could break his energy shield.

I looked at Sideswipe’s Desert Ranger that was right next to me. When I looked at it, the red hue that covered my visor has something for me.

[Energy Shield on standby, stand up to activate]

Looks like that I can get into the fray.

*Zrr-r-r-r-r-r…*

I heard electrical energy charging up above; noticing a glow from Ichika’s support’s railgun and aiming at Sideswipe.

I grabbed Sideswipe’s Desert Ranger, got up and made a mad dash towards them.

As I got up, the red hue on my visor soon vanished and the color of my vision is restored. The 3-way crack that was in the center of it, vanished but one.

I guess it’s there to remind me that the energy shield’s been broken once.

The pilot of the black IS has a small smirk on her face as she’s about to fire her railgun at him; time to wipe that smirk off.

I took aim at here with the Desert Ranger…

*PA! PA! PA! PA! PA! PA!*

I fired multiple shots at her, some of them hitting the railgun itself, disrupting her aim as she fired the shot.

Now that’s out of the way, I continued on and dove towards Ichika as he’s about the thrust his Katana at Sideswipe.

I got back up to help Sideswipe get to his feet.

I handed Sideswipe his Desert Ranger back to him.

“Did he break your energy shield?”

“No, it’s regenerating right now.”

“U-ugh…”

Ichika was just recovering from the tackle I gave him, and now he’s coming towards me.

“I’ll handle Ichika. See what you can do with that railgun.”

“Right.”

Sideswipe broke off as Ichika came straight at me. Let’s see what the only male IS pilot can do.

I pulled out both of my Desert Rangers and took aim at Ichika.

*PA! PA! PA! PA! PA! PA!*

Ichika dodge the shots as he got closer and closer.

I attempted to increase the distance between me and him by falling back, but his speed’s too much.
“Hugh!”

As he got close, I dodge sideways to avoid his attack.

Now that I’m behind him, I made a lunge at him to get on his back.

*KLANG!*

“Grgh!”

I was struck by the backside of Ichika’s katana. As I tried to recover, Ichika turned around to face me and went into a kendo stance.

As he’s in his Kendo Stance, his katana began to glow white-blue.

That can’t be good….

Just remember to tie whatever left tightly or you'll lose a lot of blood, FAST. Forming a fist will be a problem tho.
