As for the bolded part: (Warning: RAEG-inducing spoilers)
Spoiler for Eugeo, Web Ch5:
I hope they'll tone down this in the LN version. It seems a bit too much for SAO, all things considering.

It's not the first time we've seen this being hinted at in the AW and SAO LNs...
Spoiler for Fairy Dance, Mother's Rosario,& AW Vol3-4:

Alternatively:
Spoiler for AW Chrome Disaster, Fairy Dance:

tl;dr - this had all happened before in these LNs, I would not be surprised if it happened again.

It's not the same imo. What happens in the web novel feels like a line was crossed for the first time, and there's really no need for that.

In any case, I will keep hoping this line won't be crossed in the LN. We'll see what happens.

Spoiler for my thoughts based on two-page spread and web ch.5:

But seriously, what's up with all these rotten nobles in the UW?!

Oh is that the Blacksmith from Rondo? O.O

Well it seems Vol.1 of Progressive is the SS in chronological order.

As for Ch.5 of Alicization. Darnnit. The UW is truly a lot more darker than the previous arcs. (Well maybe incorporating more of the other arcs like Fairy Dance) but yeah, I agree, there are some effed up nobles in UW. Probably due to the lack of conflict and ways to express the darker side of Human Nature.

Those nobles are like the normal school bullies in real-life. War or no war, bullies like that still exist either way.

But bullies wouldn't normally go that far, I think. That's bit too messed up.

No matter where you go there will always be a very cocky noble or a form of bully.

As messed up as how it is, it still exist. It even goes to the extent of killing other fellow student with only just a pretense of "bullying him/her". So in normal society its a common thing and thus so is in UW where they can't kill, they simply find holes in the rules imposed to commit supposed crimes.

I see Kawahara really likes to use rape as a way to evoke rage and advance the plot and that's not a good thing. He's used it (and its variants) in Fairy Dance, GGO and now Alicization. I never like rape used in manga/anime as IMO it's just a shallow way to create a "tragic" backstory or make the story darker without the author actually trying. And it seems to be the case here.

What were the rape scenes used in GGO?

Would it have been better to kill or at least maim them?

No one was ever raped in the series, as far as I know. There was no rape in Fairy Dance either.

BTW, shouldn't we keep using spoiler tags when talking about web novel Alicization?
