She sure was desperate to get Luke's help.....going as far as offering herself......but it was great she fought in the end....

Huh. I wonder why this show fell of my radar. Oh well, now that it's picked it up again it's... a mixed batch of goods, though mostly positives right now. On the downside the 'katana are just better' that roams in the background... though since all the swords in this anime seem to be forged out of tamahagane, it's obvious that -and why- the katana would be superior to simple form-forged blades. Making a sword out of inferior metal without removing the impurities would make those swords brittle indeed.

On the bright side I'm overjoyed that Aria isn't a katana (which I was half expecting), but a rapier instead. That certainly rekindled my hope of European swords also showing what they're worth in this anime.

Interesting - it looks like they've outright skipped quite a few bits of the novel this episode. I wonder how they'll work the missed plot points back in later on?

As regards RoLW's Parn, incidentally - he changed a lot from the Lodoss manga to the anime. Parn in the manga started as an experienced and competent (but not superhuman) fighter who was very aware of his own limitations, and actually stayed that way throughout. Reading it, I was quite impressed by the fact that the heroes didn't power up at any time in three whole volumes...

And as usual, fodders are conquering the battlefield......Only to get wiped out.

The badass arives and is in a bad mood because he has to fight akuma on his day off XD







Luke: Cecily your turn!...... Stop preaching and finish of that monster already!!



After this, Cecily delivers the final blow (Poor monster, i pity him for getting his final blow from Cecily)









In short the summary: Thanks to Luke, the city was once again saved....

Too much Cecily talk although she's starting to become more determined. Mixed bag of an episode. Some good scenes but although I haven't touched the novels, it felt rather watered-down and very straightforward.

As usual, tsundere-kun is awesome!

Is it a special quality of Aria to cool down so fast? Although the heat leaves Cecily injured, that sword did cool down pretty damn quick!

Another question is, does Aria actually belong to someone? It can't be that simple in terms of politics and bureaucracy for Aria to simply become Cecily's servant just like that.

This is one of the things from the novel that got cut.

Spoiler for ep. 4 / novel vol. 1 comparison:

Aria actually does have a master. Cecily manages to arrange for him to relinquish Aria, and the mayor buys her with public funds, so Aria basically now "belongs" to the town itself.

The reason why Aria's owner could be persuaded to let her go is tied in to another plot point that got cut in the anime.

At one point in the novel, Luke makes the comment that there's no such thing as a magic sword; it later comes out that both Aria and Lisa are actually Akuma. When it's revealed to Aria's master that his ownership of Aria is basically a contract with an Akuma, he hastily renounces his dominion over her, clearing the way for her acquisition by the local authorities.

As a side note, I would've loved to see the animated version of Aria's expression when Cecily sprang all this on her. Too bad that got cut.

thats not Yuri you silly person I hope it does get super popular so everyone will start to get sick of it, because I'm already sick of it showing up in every anime. (in non-yuri anime/mangas)

In the anime, the armor seems to act more like a piece of clothing instead of keeping a fixed form like plated armor should.

Not to mention they seem to grow, shrink and change shape per scene too:

For once the colors of the metal look different (and I prefer the way it looks on the cover). The shape of the breast part also looks different. (a bit less rounded in the manga cover)

I also feel that in the cover, the plate "fits" better with the rest of her body, whereas in the anime it stands out a bit more. One could argue to be a matter of angle and perspective for both images, but I don't check the manga and I am only using the cover as a reference here.

For the heck of it, I even get the impression that the anime version looks heavier.

XD I noticed THAT part, but the rest is just the same, the anime version is just more fanserviced than the Manga breast plate.

What was a flaw in previous episodes is now a virtue. It seems that Aria is really, really moved by Cecily's paradigm over war, swords, and life in general that she personally swear fealty (i think, i can't read/listen Japanese fluently). Of course, a lot of yuri baits greatly help.

Well... Cecily treats Aria as a person and can accept her limitations. When the fire elemental(?) grab her, what comes to her mind isn't "oh no the adversary got a hold of significant strategic object!" but "my friend Aria is in danger!"

See, Cecily isn't bad. She's immature, yes; inexperienced, yes; but she's willing to back her words with actions. If those actions have their price, she's willing to pay. ("Use my body", etc).

I have to question the tactics ("corral trap") the military used in this episode. A lot of people can get killed this way. Well, they did get killed left and right (the soldiers).

Yuri... in my Record of Lodoss War?!

Btw, now that i see Luke's face up close and personal, his left eye does looks like glass. Is it something to do with how Lisa only open her left eye when creating katana WoW-style?
